I thought notifications were better in iOS 7

Question

I thought notifications had been improved in iOS 7 with a design to clear once across devices.
For example, let's say I get a FaceTime call.  I decide to answer it on my Mac.  Now both my iPhone and my iPad will notify me that I missed a FaceTime call (which is silly in itself, because I didn't miss it... I answered it on my Mac).
To clear the notifications I must open FaceTime on my iPhone.  Go to the Recents tab (I think I actually have to switch tabs for this to work).  Then repeat for the iPad.  I have to do this every time I get a FaceTime call.
Same with other apps.  If I get a notification about a comment on a Facebook post.  I have to open Facebook on my iPhone.  View the comment.  Then repeat for the iPad.
I thought I could just clear the notification from the Notification Center, but that doesn't clear the notification icon on the app iteself.
I want the notifications.  I just want them once, and I want to clear them easily without having to open and close apps on every device I own.
Has anyone else found an easy way to manage this?

So this is the normal way people use notifications... they just turn them off?  Or is it unusual for people to have multiple iOS devices plus a Mac?
I'm just curious if other people have better ways of managing this.  As I mentioned, I actually want to be notified if I miss a FaceTime call, if I get a response to a post, etc...  I just don't want to have to spend minutes each time clearing them in multiple ways from every device I own.  There has to be a better way.
Consider this... Let's say I have multiple phones in my house, they ring, and I answer on the downstairs phone.  I don't expect to have the other phones in the house nagging me that I missed the call and requiring that I pick up each phone and interact with it to silence it.
