I thought Pages would allow me to open my documents that were created in Appleworks 6, but it's not.

I upgraded my late 2009 iMac to Mt Lion and then had to find "obsolete" memory to increase capacity so I could put iWork on my desktop, so I could open my old documents created by Appleworks 6. I thought iWorks Pages '09 would open both Word and Appleworks documents, but it's not. I used my iWorks DVD version 9.0 and after installing I did a software update to 9.3. Can anyone give me the answer as to what to do in order to open all my documents or give me the answer that I can't do it using iWorks? Thanks

It is an interesting problem. If you were using all of the AppleWorks tools the way Apple intended, then you may have a Word processing document with embedded graphics and spreadsheet content. Apple suggests that Pages will open AppleWorks 6 Word processing documents, Numbers will open AppleWork 6 spreadsheets, and I believe Keynote will open AppleWorks graphics files. In between may be a gray area that other community members can help you address.
Although I have used AppleWorks 5 and 6 in the past, I no longer have any of these documents left.
The latest version of LibreOffice (v4.1) has added (so they claim) the ability to open Clarisworks, AppleWorks 5 and 6, and MS Works for Mac, Mac Word, etc. You might download and try the free LibreOffice and see if it processes your AppleWorks files. If so, it will allow you to export them in more friendly Office document formats. And quite possibly save you a ton of valuable time.

Pages '09 will open .doc files from Word 2004. The Mac OS is not what is in question. Pages '09 opens Word 2004 documents and if the same version of Pages will run in Lion and in Mountain Lion ..... Thats all that matters.

    I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6.  That's the latest version.
Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them.  And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore.  Sorry about this.

  • Pages does not open .docx files that were created by Windows Mobile 6

Pages can read .docx files created from Windows (Vista Office). But for .docx files created in Windows Mobile devices, Pages cannot open them. It show up as blank. If I use microsoft office for Mac to open, it can open them. If I save the opened file from office Mac, I can open it Page.
I hope that there is a fix to this problem.

There is a converter that might help you.

Chrome uses its own Flash Player. It's called PepperFlash, and it doesn't play well with NPAPI apps and pages, because it's a PPAPI plug-in.
Go into your Chrome Settings. (chrome://settings in the address bar)
Click "Show advanced settings" and go to Privacy.
    Click Content Settings...
Check your Media settings and Unsandboxed plug-in access. Your camera should be allowed, and plug-ins should be too.
If they are and it still gives you trouble, download the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers).
    Install it.
    Launch Chrome again.
Type chrome://plugins in the address bar.
Click the "+" for Details at the top right, and scroll to Adobe Flash Player.
You'll see two (2) plug-ins listed; PepperFlash and the one you just installed.
    Disable PepperFlash.
Close Chrome and relaunch it. This will force it to "fall back" on the standard plug-in which should work.

  • Why can I not open documents in Pages that were created in Pages?

I am using the most recent update to Pages.  Unfortunately all the documents that I had within the previous version of Pages will not open within the new Pages. Equally, I cannot open any documents that I have just created with the new Pages either. Is there an obvious solution to this? Very frustrating!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • I thought Sync would allow me to migrate settings to a new browser on a different laptop, but I can't make it happen.

My old laptop works but is being borrowed and the user account on which my Firefox profile is stored is locked and I don't want to open it for the person who is using the laptop.
I thought Sync would allow me to access those old settings for a new laptop I have with Firefox. Is this possible?

Still it does not work, maybe I am not making myself clear, here goes.
It will allow me to login into my sync account on my Mac.
It will allow me to login to my sync account on-line.
It will not le me login to my sync account on my windows 8.1 laptop, it does not recognise my login information and asks me to create an account.
So sticking to my initial post Firefox sync is pants, it does not do what it is supposed to do sync data between to computers.
By the way I have still had no response from Mozilla, so any help form here would be good.

I don't believe it will open a Word document, but Writepad allows for handwritten conversion of notes to text and then to email. Might help you some of the way...

  • Firefox is not allowing me to install the latest version of Flash Player, or older versions that would allow me to open youtube etc. any suggestions?

Hi there, Firefox not accepting latest version of Flash Player, or older versions that would allow me to open youtube and is continuouing to block it. any suggestions?

'''''"... Firefox not accepting latest version of Flash Player ..."'''''
Firefox shouldn't keep you from installing Flash; Firefox needs to be closed before attempting to install Flash - Adobe rules for installing Flash.
Also, it seems that you have a real old version of Flash installed.
    '''Shockwave Flash 9.0 r45'''
Two versions of Flash Plugins installed may confuse Firefox as to which version to use.
You should download and run the Adobe Flash uninstaller program before attempting to install Flash.

  • This morning, Firefox stopped opening .pdf documents that I am trying to retrieve from websites. It does not download them, and the page goes blank, with nothing more happening. What do I do to fix it?

I went to the FAA website, and I needed to review a document. I clicked on the link, the page turned blank, but I never saw the document. I tried again, but I still could not get the document. Word documents still bring up the dialog box allowing me to open the document. I went to another website to find additional information on the project I am working on, and I am experiencing the same problem, when I click on a link to a pdf, it will not open, and the download dialog box does not open.
I have tried looking at applications and plugins, but everything seems to be fine. What do I do to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Anne

Same problem here (no graphics in header or footer) and the problem has been reported months ago. It is another bug/feature lost when Apple moves from 09 to the iCloud-compatible versions.  Complain to Apple, you may have better chance than me and they may finally listen to their users....

  • Pages 5.0 can't open iCloud documents.  Has anybody run into this issue?

    Here's the story:
I upgraded to Pages 5.0 and can't open .pages documents saved in icloud.
It does not seem to be a file incompatibility.  I am creating files in Pages for Mac, saving them to iCloud.  They are immediately unable to re-open.
I only get a message saying:  The file “{file name}.pages” couldn’t be opened.
Documents can be created without issue.  If they are saved to my local drive, I can open them again.
Obviously, this makes it very difficult to use Pages with any other devices because document syncing is impossible.
    Details on my system:
    Mid-2010 13" Macbook pro
    2.4 Ghz core 2 duo
    8 GB ram
    OS X 10.9

I was also experiencing same issues without being to open Older Pages Docs from iCloud in Pages 5.  I followed suneson Recommendation and process to the T...    Works perfectly.
Important to note you do have to do the second part in order for it to work completely.  I tested just the first half and still had issues.  Once Disabling and Re-enabling Documents and Clearing Cache - works perfectly now.  Thanks Suneson!
    Suneson process:
Move all of your iCloud documents to a local folder (offline).
Go to the iCloud preference pane i System Preferences.
Click Manage... and delete all Pages data.
    The Next Step is required:
Go back to iCloud preferences and uncheck "Documents & Data".
    Check it again.
Delete ~/Library/Caches/--anything related to Pages or iWork--

  • Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud.  When I go to the mac app store it says pages 5.0 is installed, but Pages says it's running 4.3.  I just want to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad.

Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade.  when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3.  I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad.  How can i get Pages 5.0?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application
