I thought with iWeb integration...

I can't find or it's not available, isn't there a way to select a group of photos and then send them to iWeb directly? Like in iPhoto? Or is Aperture not fully integrated with iWeb?
I can only see that I have to open iWeb and then go back in the Aperture library and find the pictures I want to use.
iPhoto has a dedicated icon for iWeb. Just select all the photos and clieck the iWeb icon and select make page. iWeb opens and all the photos are in the new page.

Using iLife 06. All latest updates on MacBook Pro. iPhoto has a dedicated iWeb icon to generate the pages directly in iPhoto.
I was hoping the Aperture update with iLife integration would have a dedicated iWeb icon too. It makes the most sense like in iPhoto.
If I'm already working in Aperture on the photos, to be able to select them and click make iWeb page with them is so streamlined. As it is now I have to open Aperture, select the Media window and now go look for the photos in Aperture. This is a pain when not selecting contiguous photos in Aperture.
I guess way around this is to create a folder of the photos in Aperture I want to use iWeb. The open iWeb and go to that folder. Not the best of integration as in iPhoto. Especially when you have thousands of photos in Aperture and many projects and folders.
Hopefully an update will bring true integration with Aperture and iWeb.
Thanks

  • How to create a wiki with iWeb ?

    Hi !
Any idea about how to create a wiki with iWeb ?
I want to make a school web page but, instead of doing it myself, I thought it would be more interesting to make every student contribute - that's the point of making a wiki ! Could anyone help me ?
    Many thanks !
    Cheers.
    Chris.

I know Apple's tools are VERY compelling and tremendously cool to use, but, given the collaborative nature of this endeavor, you may want to look at some internet enabled tools that, by their nature, allow many users to update the content from anywhere.
Currently, if you're editing a page in iWeb, the information for that site is kept in the domain.sites folder. For several people editing the site, you would have to shuttle this file back and forth between all the users. If user A is currently editing the site, user B would have to wait until they're finished to get the file. If user A wants to make some changes, they'd have to wait until user B sends the file back to them and we haven't even got to the point of letting user C, D, or E have access to the content in order to make updates!! Add everyone else in the school and you would have to make sure this one file makes it across tens of computers without becoming corrupted and making sure that only one person is making changes at a time. This would limit the number of updates that can be handled on a regular basis (what if user M gets ill before handing it off to user N, now NO one can make updates until user M remembers where they left the content... if they didn't erase it).
However, if you're willing to severely limit the scope of what a wiki is, then you can get input from everyone and enter it with just a few users that have access to edit the content.

  • Reassociating a site with iWeb 06

I need a bit of help here from some bright person who use iWeb/Tiger .
I did a clean install of the whole computer. I reinstalled iWeb from '06. I had previously published a site to iDisk created in iWeb.
I had also published it to a folder, but I thought I could just download it back from iDisk after the fresh install. I did that. However, every icon is associated with a browser and not with iWeb. It is the same on iDisk.
I can find no way to re-associate the site with iWeb/open the site in iWeb. Thus I am dead in the water. Again, all the icons are "Safari" or internet associated. In iWeb there is no "Open" and dragging an icon onto iWeb does nothing.
how can I open a site created in iWeb after a clean install on the computer???
I truly need some help here. The site is dead in the water as it is now
    thanks

Chris ~ If, where your existing domain is registered, they also provide hosting, you can publish your site to a folder and then upload it via an FTP app to your host. Alternatively, you can publish to MobileMe and point your Domain name there. More info here:

  • Create an e-commerce site with iWeb?

I know iWeb has some e-commerce features like the ability to place Google Ads, but I want to create a full e-commerce site with features like an ordering page that takes paypal and credit cards, autoresponders, a pop-up form on the home page that offers to subscribe visitors to my newsletter, possibly a popup that asks visitors if they really want to leave without subscribing, etc. These advanced features are beyond my capability to learn easily, and I understand that I should be willing to hire someone to do this if I ultimately want to earn some money. BUT, what if I want to create the site in iWeb? Would I have to hire an HTML expert who’s familiar with iWeb? Is iWeb up to this task or should I use a different editor for this purpose?

Timothy ~ iWeb is intended for designing personal websites. It doesn't have the level of control at the HTML level to create sophisticated e-commerce websites. You could consider using a web store builder such as eCRATER or Shopify.
The free, web-based Posterous blogging system has an integrated connection with Shopify. You can post photos, video, and documents to your Shopify store blog simply by sending an email with any rich media attached. Read more here.
An alternative to iWeb is RapidWeaver which has a PayLoom plugin which lets you create special pages that interact with PayPal Shopping Cart.

  • Complete Success with iWeb 08

Well after reading all the Horror stories here I was mucho frightened! So I of course backed up my Domain document although I knew I have a mirror Cloned using CCC thats in my Tower. The 'conversion' completed without a hitch till after the progress bar was finished. Then it Crashed and asked to reopen. When I reopened it Crashed again, so the next effort I hit close to let the app properly cycle and button itself up.
Next attempt it did reopen and stayed opened. So seeing all those 'Red" folders (6 photo pages) I hit the Publish Button on the bottom of the screen. It proceeded to do its thing, but I noticed that now there was a progress bar instead of the little Pie indicator to the right of the Site name. I simply waited.. Then the Pie progress indicator did Indeed appear, and I saw on my Net Monitor app, that the site was now uploading. It seemed to be finished but the Circle of the indicator was still appearing - So I WAITED some more and after a while the empty Circle disappeared and I got a Dialog Box that told me it was complete!
So there were 2 instances that I thought perhaps the import/conversion process was Done when in fact IT WAS NOT. I could have probably Tanked my entire site had I not waited patiently. So buyer Beware. Allow the procedures to COMPLETE, as I bet many will not, and end up with an incomplete conversion, Hence not working. I thank God I had the good sense or fortune to wait and was relieved to get a Dialog Box that told me it was completed and asked me If I wanted to close or Visit my site. I copied the web address from that Dialog Box and closed the iWeb app, opened Safari pasted the address and my full site was there. ( It opened with placeholders but in a few seconds the pictures all populated) Whew.. YMMV moral, be patient and wait a few minutes when you think its done, it may Not Be.

Glad to hear that it worked for you. But I am really starting to wonder where I went wrong then, because I did not use third-party anything with iWeb, and I can't update my '06 domain file. iWeb just freezes, shows as "Not responding" and in red in the Force Quit window. I don't believe there's any point in trying to wait that out.
And not only that, but when starting over with a fresh domain file, iWeb '08 crashes or freezes all the time too. I'm a big Apple fan, and I haven't lost anything important because I backed it all up and have a second Mac to rely on, but seriously, this is bad. It's just bad. I can't come up with any excuses for this one (or the stripped-down new iMovie, but I digress). I have a straightforward site -- based on "modern" template -- I don't understand why the new version of iWeb can't read it. I understand even less why iWeb '08 would be crashing with a brand new domain file.
    My site is here: http://web.mac.com/mousie/iWeb/Site/Home.html
If anyone can see any reason why I may be having these problems, please let me know. I've tried all the tricks to "get it to work" that I could find on this forum. Thanks.

  • Alert! Is the iWeb integration all gone?

One of the things that impressed me the most about Pages 08´ was the integrstion with iWeb. You can just copy and paste!. And in iWeb everything remains fully editable - but interpreted in html!
    That's a timesaver.
In Pages 09´the export seems to have vanished, - and so has the clever non-destructive, copy and paste functions. Now all I get is a lame picture, - non-editable...
Am I all wrong, - or am I right - is this a major set back?

You are right. Perhaps the new version of iWeb in a few weeks will work better with Pages '09.
To export to iWeb is in the Share menu of course, but there still does not seem to be any good integration.

  • Why blog with iweb

o.k. since i am new to this iweb thing and blogging with it i have a question. what is the benefit of blogging with iweb? i feel like there are so many downsides to it and i am paying for this service. I could be using another blog service for free or little money and have it not be this difficult. i just feel like i am so loimited and i feel like my blog does not even work on my friends computers who are PC users and run internet explorer.
some things i am having challenges with:
    * putting HTML in my blog. (i know it can be done but i'm told if you modify the blogs HTML code then i can cripple my commenting system)
    * changing colors of certain text in my template
*adding photos to my blog, they seem to need to be made small before i import them otherwise i will use up my space rather quickly.
    * (this is more of a question) can i install .png files into my blog or does it have to be a .jpg? i would like to insert files that do not have the white bkg and the only way i can do that is if it is a .png file.
those are just some of my issues for now. am i right? are these legitimate issues wth using the blog with iweb? or am i just crazy ...LOL! :P
if there are easy ways to fix these issues i would soooooo love some help as a new iweb user.
Also another thought was could some of these issues be fixed with leopard when it comes out? does anyone have any idea?
that's all i have for now. i will post again if i can thing of more questions.

    Hi Dena,
As Old Toad mentioned, iWeb can be used for many kinds of web sites. The link he gave is a great place to get a sense of what can be created. Blogging is one of the components of iWeb and blogs can be easily created. Yet, iWeb might not meet the needs of everyone.
If one does not want to spend time under the hood of iWeb, tweaking the html, trying to create things that iWeb does not automatically do which other blogging sites and software provides, then there are other services and software available that are designed specifically and exclusively for blogging. One does not need to get "under the hood" (though most of them allow it), If you like to tinker with the "innards" you will be able to tweak your iWeb blogging site or any other of the iWeb components to meet most of your needs.
iWeb is good at what it does, in fact it is very good at what it does. It just might not meet the needs of everyone. It is still a work in progress that provides the non html, css coder, or professionally trained designer, the chance to get on the web without the previously required knowledge of html, css etc.

  • Sharing with iWeb from iMovie- 2 questions

I asked this question in iMovie forum and was told to repost here:
I was wondering where the quick time file goes when you choose "share with iWeb" locally. I have been able to find it on the iDisk, but thought it possibly was saved locally too.
Also - I'm extremely confused with iWeb when viewing the pages it creates through Internet Explorer on Windows based PC's. I am able to see it on 25% of PC's, hear it on another 25% of PC's, and on 50% can't see or hear it. I have done searching and found no concrete reason why this is. I have updated the QT player, updated IE, and also gone into settings and allowed QT to be the default for all file types it wants. Any ideas?

    ezweeb:
The movie files is copied into the Domain.sites file that's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. That is the most important file of your site. It contains all of the building blocks of your site and if it gets damaged or deleted you'll have to start from scratch to recreate your site.
I strongly suggest you download and use varkgirl's Automator application to backup the Domain.sites file every time you make any changes to the site. You can get it here.
Many of the PC browsers do not handle the png files that iWeb uses frequently. The following are a number of tips I've gathered from this forum on how to help avoid creating png files and making the sites more compatible with the darkside.
1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
    2 - don't use any reflections.
3 - create your own navigation bar with linked text* and turn of the iWeb Navigation bar. That's because the nav bar is all png based.
*Put your linked text directly under the Navigation bar. Then turn off the nav bar in the Inspector window. The nav bar will disappear and the linked text will move up to the top of the page.
4 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
5 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
6 - turn off smart quotes
7 - if you add a jpg to a page don't resize it in iWeb as that will cause it to be converted to png. Resize it to what you need before adding to the page..
The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it will speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly.
Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.
This site will show you how IE 7, 6 and 5.5 will display your site. I don't have access to a PC to determine how accurately it renders a site as Internet Explorer would. But you can try it out.

  • Very disappointed with iWeb 11!

Very disappointed with iWeb, not all browsers correctly show website/s unless you have superior code skills and knowledge, then what's the point of iWeb, I thought it was suppose to be easy to use and upload your new site??? Various browsers form Firefox and Internet Explorer have viewing issues.
When will Apple correct this problem?

  • Best web hosting services compatible with iWeb

Hi all! I just started using iWeb a month ago after Apple's keynote, and renewed my .Mac account. However, I am very dissapointed that Apple only provides 1GB of storage and 10GB of bandwidth versus the 5GB+ & 200GB+ yahoo and other hosting services provide.
If Apple does not provide larger bandwidth and storage for their users, I am thinking about changing next year with a different company. The only downside is having to start all over again with other publishing software like Macromedia Dreamweaver etc.
I want to know if there is anyone out there with success publishing their sites with iWeb on to different hosting companies other than .Mac. I am talking seamless uploads with the click of a button from iWeb (like the current .Mac service). Has anyone had great experiences? Please post your thoughts. Thanks!

Only .Mac can be done with the click of an iWeb button. Any other normal server requires a separate ftp program (.Mac does not use ftp but a different protocol called webdav).
Publishing via ftp is not a problem. Some tips for using other servers can be found here:

  • Help with iWeb gallery

Hi all - this is my first post on here but i've used it for help and pointers with iWeb for some time. I'm just creating a website for my design portfolio and would really like to incorporate a gallery like the one that appears at the following link:
    http://www.arizona-software.ch/photopresenter/screenshots.html
Does anyone know of what this gallery might be called? My knowledge of web design is extremely limited so if someone could let me know their thoughts (phrased 'for dummies') that would be great.
    Many thanks in advance
    Sam

    Yes it does.
By the way, do you plan to publish to .mac.
Iphoto galleries do have that option as one of about three, but the user would have to select it.
If you haven't tired one you might. I think they look quite nice.
There are several different programs that will accomplish that, but if Iphoto will work for you it would be the easiest as it directly interfaces with Iweb.
There is a little freebe called "flash album exporter" that is a plug-in for Iphoto that will do exactly what you want, but you would have to manually upload and link it, which is not really a big deal.
The simple viewer option is about the same as what you saw.
    good luck

  • How do I add a type tag to my enclosure with iWeb?

I encode my video with QuickTime, manage my website with iWeb, and upload it to the web with Transmit.
A few episodes ago, my podcasts stopped updating on Podcast Alley. Tech support pointed out the problem: There are no type tags on any of my enclosures.
From what I gather, the type tag tell you what kind file it is - ie, a .m4v
I don't have any idea how to add a type tag to an enclosure using iWeb, and I don't even know if its possible. I would think that iWeb would do it automatically.
Also, how do I change my feed? I originally just used the feed iWeb created:
    http://www.leilajones.com/jonescast/...esCast/rss.xml
But then set up a feedburner feed - which I now submit when I submit anywhere new.

But how do I change the rss feed on my website with iWeb... I love the simplicity of it, but it's so limiting...
Also, how do I change the feed in iTunes to the Feedburner feed?

  • Setting up Online chat or realt ime messaging with iWeb

I am new to this, so apologies if question is niave.
I want to be able to to set up a messaging system through a web-site (created with iWeb) & have an online chat facilitiy preferably in real time, rather than posts on a messge board, so I can ask questions & direct the chat.
Its for a structured discussion for some PhD research I am doing.
Is there some way to combine iChat & iWeb. I was thinking through the 'group' service on dot.mac, using jabber on bonjour?
BTW (I have never used jabber or bonjour before, so all advice gratefully received).
    Many Thanks

Unfortunately this first version of iWeb doesn't really lend itself to doing what it is you are trying to do. In order for you to achieve this you will have to get under the bonnet so to speak. You can either have a link such as the one you will find here: http://web.mac.com/justin_stevens/iWeb/Lounge/About%20Me.html which will initiate an iChat / AIM session with you directly. (If you wish to do something like this I can help you manually edit the necessary files). Or else you can try something slightly more clever as outlined here: http://homepage.mac.com/cherrypop/iblog/C1900478167/E20060301171845/index.html The advantage of the latter is that your web site will show your offline / online status as well as initiating a chat session with you when clicked. Hope this is of some help to you. Don't hesitate to get in touch should you require anything further.
    Kind Regards,
    Justin

i have made with iweb a website on my macbook, now i want to change it, through my imac, how can I get in the program , which is on the mac book. On both computer I have Lion

You need to transfer your domain.sites file from your MacBook to your iMac.  This is the file where iWeb stores all info and can be found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
Transfer this file from your MacBook to the same place on your iMac and double click the domain.sites file and iWeb will open it on your iMac and you can update your site from there too.
