  • Took My PB apart, put it back together and AirPort doesn't work

    Hi
I recently aquired a Powerbook G4 for nothing because the Optical Drive was broken, I used an iFixit Guide to try and fix the optical drive, I didn't manage and the computer wouldn't start so i took it apart again and disconnected the optical drive, the computer started up again but now doesn't see the AirPort card for some reason
Has this happened to anyone else? If so please help
    Jonathan

The AirPort was working fine when I got the machine, and the first thing I did when I got it was clear the hard drive and put a clean install on, I also tried resetting the NVRAM but it didn't help, all the other ports seem to work, myabe I damaged the AirPort card when I took it apart (I did remove it several times|) or maybe the slot it goes into (to get to the optical drive you have to remove the logic board)

I have a friend who has a Mac Mini 2007 with osx 10.6.8, and he wants to upgrade 10.7 for different reasons, does the mac mini supports it?

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • My mac mini 2007 will support 10.5

    HI ,
Please let me know whether my Mac Mini 2007 will support Mac OS X v10.5 ?
    Br
       sarath

Pre-August 28, 2009 Macs will support Mac OS X 10.5, but maybe not the version you are looking for. October 26, 2007 Apple released 10.5.  Any Macs released new after that date with a hardware refresh will either require 10.5.1, 10.5.4, or 10.5.6 retail up till December 15, 2008 (and may only be compatible with one of the three if released after one of those three), or the prebundled 10.5 installer disc that came with them to install 10.5.  A prebundled Mac Mini installer disc will typically tell you what system it came with.  If it doesn't match the age of your Mac Mini, you may need to call AppleCare to find the correct disc for a nominal charge.
You can't install 10.5 on top of 10.6.5.  You can though install it on an external hard drive connected to a Mini older than the installer disc that fits that 10.5's system requirements.
You can't install the 10.5 installer from another Mac Mini of a different age, or another Mac on the Mac Mini itself.

  • When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

Do you think the monitor, keyboard and mouse will work on it? Would I have to get a hub so I could use the stuff I already have? Is that viewsonic too old to work on it?
What else would I need? Please advise...

    Yes for keyboard and mouse.
The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • Will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?

    hi there guys,
will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?
I'm not sure if my machine is 64 bit - it is the current model base mac mini.
Many thanks for any help you can offer !
    Simon

SkiJumptoes is right. 4GB is not enough to comfortably run Logic X.
Your Mac Mini will need DDR3 SODIMM RAM. That website seems incredibly steep though. I guess that's the price of finding it for you. You're better off going to any below:

  • I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

I am considering purchasing the Mac mini for home studio audio production using Adobe Audition and a USB microphone.  Will the base mini model run these programs?

The base mini has 4GB and a 5400 RPM hard drive. It is slow to start up and slow to launch large application such as Word (and I'd assume Adobe Audition) due to the slow drive. I've not used a new 4GB model, just the 8GB model, and the 8GB model (except for the slow drive) handles everything I've thrown at it, including running Photoshop, Word, Safari, and Mail at the same time but there is sometimes a delay switching between programs as the swapfile is updated. Overall I was not happy with the 5400 RPM drive (perhaps because I have MBA and iMac with Fusion drive) so I eventually upgraded it with an SSD. Now the mini is truly a warrior.

  • My Mac Mini is currently on OS X 10.8.5 and I cannot update.

My Mac Mini is currently on OS X 10.8.5 and I have tried downloading the new OS X Mavericks package. The download will not complete and it remains at about 99% (give or take from what i see on the meter). The app store says i have downloaded it but not the apps that the package comes with. How do i update to 10.9?

What do yo mean by "but not the apps that the package comes with.   "?
What happens when you restart the computer nd try again? You may have to go the Purchased to redownload it.

  • Will iTunes 10.7 play my 720p HD movies on my Core Duo Mac mini that are currently on my iTunes movies playlist and playing perfectly fine in iTunes 10.6.3?

Will iTunes 10.7 play my 720p HD movies on my Core Duo Mac mini that are currently on my iTunes movies playlist and playing perfectly fine in the older iTunes 10.6.3?
Please let me know so I do not update to iTunes 10.7 and lose the ability to playback my 720p HD collection from my Core Duo Mac Mini to my Apple TV.
    In the requirements it says:
    • To play 720p HD video, an iTunes LP, or iTunes Extras, a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor and 1GB of RAM is required.

Performed the AppleTV update yesterday.  Haven't had a problem since...though it's only been one day.  Am I just hopelessly optimistic to think that AppleTV just needed to be updated to match iTunes and iOS for home sharing and airplay?
    Fingers crossed...
