I took my sims card out of my iPhone 4s to find the serial # and when I put it back in my phone says I do not have a sims card. Can anybody help me?

Why do you have to take the SIM card out for serial number?
The iPhone serial number can be found in
Settings > General > About > Serial Number > here.

If you took the SIM out you will not be able to use SMS because you need a cel carrier for that.

You iPhone 5 has a full 1 year Warranty with Apple, whether you have AppleCare or not. To turn iPhone ON, connect to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, iPhone may turn ON itself. I'm also had problems with Iphone 5 , it read no sim card, i solved problem by removing sim card and cleaning with alcohol and q-tip and installing back.
Shut down phone.
On the side of phone , you will see a small pin hole, insert paper clip and sim card will come out, be careful to do it over a clean towel as not to let drop on floor, make sure your hands clean while doing this.
Insert sims card back and turn on, it should work again.

Just back it up to your computer using iTunes By connecting it to your compute, launching iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up (transfer purchases of prompted). Then restore the iTunes backup to your new phone.

Put the SIM in the other phone and Restore it from Backup in iTunes. If the old one revives reverse the process.

I can not get to iPhone screen, so no way to get to Settings. That is the problem. When I connect phone to iTunes I get screen asking to insert SIN card. On the phone I'm getting Cinfigure screen asking Launguage , Country or Region, Wi-Fi, ( I can connect to my home wi-fi), and last screen "Activating your iPhone". After two minutes of waiting IM getting message: Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server in temporary unavailable. try connecting to iTunes or try later or contat apple.com/support.

Both iPhones use the same size SIM Cards. You will be able to simply transfer the iPhone 5 SIM Card to the iPhone 5C SIM Card Tray.
