I touch 1 gen freezes itunes
i never updated my itunes version 8.0.2 bacause when i did,
my ipod got not recognized any more, as well as closed i tunes down.
As i upgraded to itouch firmware 3.1 itunes 8.2 is at least needed.
When i connect itouch to Itunes it freezes for 1 minute and then shut down itunes saying "itunes got accidentially shut down please report to widows"
upgraded itunes to 9 - same probs.
I did msconfig way deleated everything related ituns and reinstalled, checked other computers. it still remained the same.
Always itunes got accidentally stopped etc. etc.
Please if anyone know help me out on this.

I have had this happen to me every time I updated my 1st gen Itouch. Each time involved losing all the music off my touch and having to restart from scratch. I have since rebuilt my pc and I am running with itunes 9 and firmware 3.0 as with the 1st gen touch's lack of blue tooth and speaker some of these updates now seem fairly pointless. Shame that in my view apple seem to have used the touch as a stepping stone to the iphone as again most features for the touch are with the iphone more in mind. My suggestion get a set up of the latest itunes and the firmware you have bought and stick with that once you have done a clean instal of it all and dont look for upgrades on kit that is now on its 3rd cycle. We can be sure that by ealy next year apple will release and new 4g touch with a camera/video camera that will require a further update that will cause more issues than solve for the 1st gen touch's

Ipod Touch (4th gen) freezes iTunes when sync'd.
A friend of mine has been having some problems and I have been unable to help him. He bought a new iPod touch 4th gen at the weekend (couldn't resist the lower price or wait a few weeks until the new model) running ios 6, he has just updated itunes to 10.7 but everytime he syncs it iTunes freezes during part 5 or 6 of the sync process and does not recover. His old nano (5th gen) syncs without issue, any ideas? We have tried reseting the iPod to factory setings but this will only allow the iPod to sync correctly once. When we try again iTunes freezes up. We are pretty much at a loss, it's taken the shine of his new purchase.
Thanks.From what I can recall they are preparing to or waiting for changes to be applied, I don't have my laptop to hand so I can't check at the mo. The status bar then does nothing at all, iTunes just freezes up completely. The moving arrows by the iPod stop circling and we have to use the task manager to close the program, just in case it restarted syncing we left it for about 20 mins without joy. Even unplugging the ipod makes no difference.

Hi everybody!
My iTunes is showing a strange behaviour since yesterday. After approx. four to six weeks after my last sync of my iPod Touch with iTunes, I wanted to sync it again yesterday (iTunes was at version 8.x at that time). iTunes started normally, everything was fine, but when I connected my iPod to my laptop, iTunes freezed. Unplugged iPod...everything goes. Windows (XP Pro) recognises the iPod showing it in Explorer; Task Manager shows no unusual system utilisation.
Here is what I did then:
- updated iTunes via iTunes itself from v8.x to current version 9.0.2 (nothing changed)
- deinstalled iTunes and all other software components as described in the apple support site
- read through the Apple support sites
- installed latest Windows XP patches and updates
- installed and used the MS installation cleanup utility
- checked every iTunes related folder
- cleared my Temp folder
- installed iTunes again
- used different USB ports
- did some restarts, of course
And what can I say: nothing helped. Same behaviour. Plugging in, iTunes freezes, every other app is working well. Unplugging, everything is fine.
I have a suspicion. The only thing I have done since the last sync was an installation of a Pinnacle USB TV-Stick together with its related software. But before I'm going to deinstall this (and going through a complete reinstall of Win) I would like to hear other oppinions.

I hooked my iTunes library and my iPod up to my 2nd laptop (Samsung NC10 Netbook).
At first: same behaviour. But then, after a couple of seconds, my iPod synced with iTunes! On my other laptop I had waited several minutes for something to happen.
After syncing, I plugged my iPod back into my other laptop...et voilà, everything is fine. I do not now, what was wrong, but I'm glad it is working now. -
My Ipod Touch Gen 5 will not show up in Itunes but it shows up under "My Computer" help!
I have a new Ipod touch gen 5. It shows up under my computer but not under devices in the side bar like it should with Itunes 11. I'm running the latest firmware for my new Itouch and the latest Itunes. I hope I don't have to uninstall my itunes as I have ALOT of music on it. I dont wanna lose it all. I'm running windows 8 and followed the tutorial to a "T" to try to fix the problem but nothing worked. I did everything except the last step. Even checking my Computer for Updates (Itunes will not run if updates to my PC are needed). Help Please!

What can I do to solve an issue with my iPod touch gen. 5 32 gb on connecting to iTunes on my computer? iTunes says there is an error with my iPod touch, which this was a result of deleting my songs and videos. I was only transferring more songs, videos and editing my playlists. I don't have that much of the songs left. What is the best solution?

My main PC with my Itunes Library just crashed. I still have all my music on Apple TV, Ipod Touch (Gen 2), and Iphone 4 (verizon). How can I get everything set up on a new PC and working ?
I downloaded Itunes 10.2 on new desktop, ran sync with my ipod touch (Gen 2) and have all my music on new PC. Just can't get it to sync with my Apple TV (Gen1). I have made music purchases on Apple TV and cannot get them to Ipod/Iphone? Help

My iPod Touch Gen 5 will no longer synch with iTunes on my computer. Only change since this happened is update to iPod to OS 8.1.1 iPod synch remains stuck in "Step 8 of 8"
On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it. -

My Ipod Touch (GEN 2) is not being recognized under devices in my Itunes. My computer is recognizing it as a device under device manager, but it is not showing up under devices in my Itunes. I am also getting this error message saying "Itunes Could Not Connect to this Iphone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065)", and the weird thing about it is that i do not have an iphone but an ipod touch. I have followed the steps on the support website and they have not helped. Iam out of ideas and i really need some help. Please Help!!

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?

Hey, so my iPod touch 2g freezes at start up ipod logo when in the charger. Then when off the charger after a couple minutes it goes black. when i connect it to my computer does not connect to itunes so i can not restore it. please help!!!
Try to reset it by pressing and holding the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Maybe it help. -

In order to prevent crashes/freezes when syncing an ipod touch 5g to itunes, does all of my music library have to be in mp3 format or will a combination of AAC and mp3 tracks be OK? Haven't even used the ipod yet (It's under the xmas tree - I know 'cos I had a sneaky peek!!!!)
Want to avoid potential problems - it took me a while to figure out how to create mp3 CDs.
So, no windows doesn't crash/freeze etc.
Will check out the link though, just to be on the safe side before the ipod gets its first fire up.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you will have to get them from where you originally got them -

I have a 1st gen ipod touch, after a year the touch screen freezes up constantly. I reboot, restart, re sync, upgrade, updated firmware, made sure sure the browser was cleared, I don't even have 1/2 the memory used, now & then it will unfreeze, but most of the time it is frozen. Very unreliable. Thank god it is not a phone. I even took it into the so called "Genius Bar" and they just told me to buy a new one...had this thing a little over a year...and they really think I am going to purchase more Apple products? It is pretty sad when the folks that make this crap can't diagnose it...
Anybody else in this boat?Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod if you have not already done that. If you still have the problem then you very likely have a hardware problems and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
