I-Touch all messed up! Help, please

The on swtich and volume control switches are not working. There is a picture of a speaker in the center of my display screen and it stays there no matter what I try to access, except when I go to sounds under settings. When I try to turn up the volume by sliding the speaker icon under settings it will slide up but as soon as I stop it slides back down to off. I have tried to it back-up and also restore to factory settings but it has not helped. Any ideas?

You shouldn't use a normal defrag program like techtool optimization with ipod--something of a software conflict, from what I understand. There's a program by prosoft (http://www.prosofteng.com) called tunetech that's made to deal with ipod and optimization (among other things).
I was transferring the songs too and I think the reason ipod didn't play them was because it was on its way to dying. Each time I'd restore and try to put the songs back on different ones wouldn't play! I think there were some bad sectors on it. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I think your ipod is sick!

Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

I read on another discussion that sucking air out of the headphone slot works, I tried it and guess what, it worked.......weired....apparently something to do with moisture accumulation....!!!!!!

Not true. Select "Kind" as a sort category by right clicking the headings

If your Import Settings are for Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC or whatever the majority of your files are, convert MP3s to that file type.
I've presently got 17,000+ files in my library, and they're ALL MP3 or M4B(Audiobooks). If they weren't when I got them, I converted them. Saves a LOT of hassels with just this type of situation. Besides I have two non Apple MP3 players that WON'T work with other file types besides MP3 so, EVERYTHING I have has to be MP3.

When i try to take a self photo on my itouch 5, the shutter doesn't open and i can't take a picture, sometimes my app wont let me take pictures at all...help please?!

i just recently last month got a new itouch 5th generation ipod touch...recently after i had bought it, i noticed that i can't take self photos on my camera...if i am on the regular app taking a regular shot and try to switch it, it just freezes on me and i cant get it back to normal at all...ill have to restart it and leave it off for a day in order for it to work again....i really need help please in order to figure out what to do and if i should just bring it to apple!

I just bought this ipod touch yesterday, got all my files and apps on it. Today when I plugged it in, it wanted to update. I allowed it but an error message came up saying there was an update error and it couldn't be completed. Now my brand new ipod keeps asking me to restore it, and when I try to a message says it cannot be restored. I am on the verge of just returning the thing and giving up on apple. Please help me, I'm so frustrated.

Turn off your anti-virus and re-download the update. After that, before you connect the iPod to restore it, turn off your firewall.

Ipod Touch makes windows crash~help please

I am having some serious trouble with my iTouch. Everytime I connect the ipod to the computer with the USB, my screen immediately turns blue and says things like, "windows has encountered and error and must be shut down" and "STOP:0X0000007E". The last time it happened, I switched USB cords, and it worked. This time none of my 4 USB cords could help.
Please help. I just want to charge/sync my ipod touch.

Does your PC have software for a Logitech QuickCam/Webcam, Lexmark scanners, or a built-in media card reader?
If it does try uninstalling the software from Control Panel, then testing again, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502
If the issue is no longer present, download updated driver software from the maker of the accessory.

Dreadful Installation Mess requires help please!

I told you I was techno-challenged!
The reconditioned G4 below came with just the two OS.
I have successfully installed Pagemaker 7 and Photoshop in Classic and they appeared to run without problems.
I have subsequently tried to install my two printers using original CDs:
HP Deskjet 930C
Samsung ML6060 Laser
and my Lide80 Scanner
... with three results.
a) Neither printer is available in chooser, OS9.2.2
b) Neither will instal on OSX Tiger (in fact the computer switches from OSX to OS9 when I try).
c) I now have freeze-up when I go into Classic.
It seems there is a conflict somewhere although both installation CDs state that they can be used with both systems.
HP say that a driver is already installed on Tiger.
Where do I go from here please?
I have DiskWarrior and can also zap Pram if you think that might help but it won't install the printers of course.
Forgive my ignorance in these matters and thanks for any help.

Try booting into OS 9 with Extensions Off. To do that, boot or restart the machine into OS 9, immediately press the Shift key, keep it held down until you get the "Extensions Off" message on the Welcome screen.
If it boots okay that way, then try booting with Mac OS All as the selected extension set. To do that, boot or restart into OS 9, immediately press and hold down the Spacebar, keep it held down. Extensions Manager should open just before extensions would normally start to load. At that point, select Mac OS All as the selected set in the pulldown menu by that name in the Extensions Manager window, and resume the startup.
Since your OS's appear to be on different partitions, provided your G4 is an (AGP) or later model you can use Startup Manager to select which OS to boot the machine to during startup -

E1200 v2 - issue: all solid lights - help please

This e1200 v2 was working fine for months and it stops working one day.
Issue:
* all 6 lights are solid green as soon as the power cable is inserted
* no patch cable plug in but lights are solid green
* tried the 30 second reset - still solid green on all six lights from start to finish
* tried the 30/30/30 recovery mode - solid green on all six lights from start to finish with no RJ45 cable plug in
* as soon as the power calbe is inserted, all lights are solid green (none of the lights blink)
* ping fails to 192.168.1.1 (no display on web)
* search for its WiFi is empty
any help on this is greatly appreciated,

My iPod is screwed up beyond all realization. Help, please.

Okay, so, my iPod worked as clean as a whistle, once upon a time. I have been using iPods on my windows computer sucessfully for about 2 years now. I attempted loading too many songs onto my iPod at once, and it froze. I reset it and saw that I needed to restore my iPod. I restored it, and then attempted to add all of my songs again. The program I was using to do it (winamp) froze. So, I restored my iPod again and attempted using iTunes. It froze again. I attempted it again with iTunes (after restoring it for a third time), in smaller partitions, however it still froze. I gave up for a while. I came back to attempt again, a few weeks later. The iPod displayed the sad emoticon, and then restarted, and got caught in an endless loop of restarting and sad-faceing. Upon connecting my iPod to my computer, it takes about 2 hours for my computer to recognise that there is SOMETHING attached to the computer, and then anytime I try to look at the device, explorer freezes. Also, I cannot simply restore my iPod because the updater utility freezes when loaded. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of my iPod software, to no avail. Also, whenever my iPod is connected to my computer, my audio drivers fail and my computer cannot start up. The "Do Not disconnect" symbol remains on the iPod for about an hour after it is disconnected. What should I do? I am stubborn enough and lazy enough that I don't want to just get a new one. Does anyone know of a third party utility I can use to solve my problems? And solutions at all to my problems? Thank you for reading this wall 'o text, by the way.
