I transferred all my music to my new computer, went to sync my iphone and the music library won't sync. It's like it's leaving the old library on and trying to add a duplicate one, keeps saying there isn't enough room. Help please?

Everything from my old computer is still in the music portion of my phone, I don't know how but it hasn't synced that part.  I went through and edited the new library and there are fewer songs, it's telling my I don't have enough room on my phone.  This is impossible when it is less music than I am currently holding.  How do I get it to delete the old information and put on the new library?

How exactly was the music transferred to the new computer?
The correct way is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.  If it was transferred properly there are no issues with syncing to the iOS device.

But there was until very recently.  The difference is about 100 times what Time Machine says is needed, and I know I didn't add that much stuff in the course of a few days.

Sorry I am unclear.. how much space does TM say it needs and how much is free on the TC?
Sometimes it reports wrongly.. have you reboot the whole network.. restart modem, router / TC..clients.. and test again.

  • Saying there isn't enough room to download, but there is

I have a 2nd gen itouch. When I tried to download an app that was around 200 megs, it wouldn't let me. Even though I have close to 500 available. Please try to explain why this is happening. Thank you.

Whilst the application only is 200 MB in size, to install it takes more than that. I've seen people here with the same problem as you and it generally comes down to the ipod touch needing more than just a teeny bit of spare memory in order to install things and function properly.
I've seen more seasoned users advising people to not fill their ipod all the way to full as it helps with functionality, but in this case I would try deleting a few more things to release more free memory and trying again .. I cannot guess quite how much you might need, but the ipod will tell you by letting it install.

  • After iOS 5 installed, I can't sync my phone because it says there isn't enough room.  There was plenty before.

In the Summary on iTunes it says I now have 8 GB of Other, that I didn't have previously.  That's half my memory and I have no idea what it is.  Also, I don't need Newsstand, YouTube, or Videos and can't seem to delete them.  Could they be taking up that much space?  Please help.

As a note, you won't be able to delete Newsstand, YouTube, or Video because they're native apps. BUT they also shouldn't take up much room at all. Video and Newsstand will if you have content stored in them, but you likely don't if you don't need them.

You need a larger drive or an external drive - they OS needs a minimum of 10GB just for normal operation so you are already experiancing degraded preformance - if yo do not get more space you will start losing data
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

In the simplest sense, archiving a file means making a copy that you never change and never discard. You already know how to do that.
iPhoto has built-in archival features, in the sense that it saves all versions of an image that you've modified. As long as you have adequate backups, you don't necessarily have any reason to archive an iPhoto library. If you want to delete images from the working library but still have access to them in case you change your mind, then you do need to archive those images. I don't have a specific suggestion as to how you should do that. You might post a question in the iPhoto forum.

  • HT4623 I lost my apps and iTunes after a restore, but it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone 4. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos, but I'm still getting the same message.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos from the phone, but I'm still getting the same message every time I re-try. I don't want to delete everything, but I don't know what to do...? Thanks!

Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...

My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library).

Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?

My iPad air is missing some apps from my phone. It keeps saying, " there is not enough storage available to download...." I purchased additional storage twice, my device now shows 18GB free of a total 25GB, and still I cannot download apps I've had for yrs

iCloud space is for backup only.
You need more local storage; free up space on iPad:
Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Delete what is not needed to free up space on iPad.

  • HT1229 an error message while trying to import photos to IPhoto saying there is not enough room.

I have an IMac with a SS drive and a regular hard drive (1 TB). I'm starting to get an error message when importing photos to Iphoto that says there's not enough room on the hard drive. The SS drive says it has only 1 GB left on it, so obviously, somehow the setup is that the Iphoto library is on THAT hard drive and not on the regular one. How do I find the right "library" and how do I move it and where?
    Thanks.

The only way I could fix this was to dowload a free program called iFunBox. Once you've installed that and have it open on OSX, plug in your idevice/ iPhone etc (note: you may need to close any other Application that auto-accesses the device, like iTunes, iPhoto or image capture), then from the left side panel in iFunBox navigate to "Raw file system" then go to the following folder:
    >DCIM>100Apple
...then browse to the video/ image(s) required and drag them to the folder you wish to go on your Mac.
This worked for me first time.
    Good luck.

  • I deleted my itunes library (after backing up) now i want to restore from TM to my MBA but its saying there is not enough room even though the library is 22GB and there is 27GB free on my MBA??

    Hi everyone,
I deleted my itunes library (after backing up to my time machine) to download a large torrent,  now i want to restore my itunes library to my MBA from time machine but its saying there is not enough room on my MBA even though the library is 22GB and there is 27GB free on my MBA??

    Here's something else to consider:
Since Snow Leopard, OS X uses a Decimal count for file size. iTunes however still uses a Binary count. What that means is: your iTunes library shows one size, while the folder shows another. Depending on the size of your library, this can be a pretty big difference.
Yours won't be that much, but it may be enough to prevent it from moving to the MBA from the TM.

  • I can't restore my backup because it says there's not enough room on my phone even though I just deleted everything

I Backed my iPhone up to my computer before getting a new Apple Id, but now when I try to load it on it says there's not enough room. Help please!

Sounds like you were running right at the maximum capacity of the iPhone when you made the backup, but you've since updated the iOS which is now taking up a little more space than the previous version.

  • Transfering all my song to my new computer

I have recently changed from PC to Mac and I'm want to tranfer all my songs to my new computer. I'm trying not to lose any songs,
30% of my songs were purchased on my Iphone (I know I can't transfer them through Itunes)
40% of my songs are from my CD collection that I had tranfered onto my PC way back when
10% purchased from Amazon years ago
20% of my songs are from various other "non-official" sites such as youtube and the such
If I copy all my PC & non-official songs onto an external hard drive and then transfer them onto my New Mac, then add them to my new mac's Library, then sync my Iphone with the same Itunes account I used on my PC, will I lose all my itunes purchaced songs?
Itunes is asking me if I want to sync my Iphone to my new Computer, but I want to make sure I don't lose the songs I paid for.
Of if you have a better why for my to mergy my music, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anniehow

As for transferring purchases from the phone, you can:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
To make sure your library transfers intact:
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.

  • Can not update iPod Nano, brand new and error says there is not enough room

I just purchased my son a 1 gig nano. After registering and setting up options for updates. I got a message saying that it could not update because there wasn't enough room. I was trying to download less than 100 songs and all of them have been downloaded from iTunes. I have already completed the "5R's" as suggested in the troubleshooting section and it still will not update. iTunes recognizes his iPod, all software has been updated, I've reset and restarted. Very frustrated and my 11 year old is very devestated. Could someone please help?

There's not an actual limit number to the ammount of songs that any iPod can hold. It's all size dependant. You might have simply downloaded a lot of large songs. When you're in iTunes check at the bottom of the screen to see how many megs or gig they actually take up. And keep in mind a 1 gig iPod isn't actually 1 gig. There is always a bit of space used up by system files and whatnot.
