4GB Mini

Basically, you need to assign this machine as the computer that will store your iPod's library. When you launch iTunes and connect your iPod, it should show up. I recommend restoring the iPod so it can sync with your new iTunes Library.
How to restore your iPod:
Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
After a few moments, it will appear in the Source list in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source list and you will see information about it appear in the Settings tab of the main iTunes windows.
Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option
1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option
2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option
3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
Restore Option
4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
Restore Instruction
1: Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Restore Instruction
2: Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
I hope this helps!

My new Windows 8 PC doesn't show my old Itunes library.  How can I transfer my songs from IPod 2nd Gen to new PC?

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library. How can I transfer my music from my ipod back to my computer? (I did not back up my entire itunes library.)

Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick
I you won't i can send you step by step guide...
    Take care.

I had my computer worked on and did not back up my itunes library.  Now the only music I have is on my ipod.  How would I put the music on my ipod back into my itunes music library?

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.
The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases
You should always maintain a backup copy.  This is very important.

  • How do i restory my entire itunes library from the hard drive of a new laptop to itunes?

I recently got a new laptop and would like to transfer my itunes from the old to the new. I backed up the itunes library to an external hard drive, and have transferred it to the hard drive of the new laptop (I haven't deleted the library from the old laptop). I am operating on windows. I am now stuck and can't seem to restore my entire itunes library to itunes. The items purchased from the itunes store are in the library on the new laptop, but the rest of my music is not. How do I restore it to my itunes library? I have tried opening itunes while holding down shift and selecting "choose library" option, but when I select the itunes folder, it doesn't appear in the library.
    help?!

    Hello ggjsa,
Congratulations on your new laptop!  I understand that you have copied your old iTunes Library to your new computer, but you are still not seeing the music.  I recommend reviewing Part 5 in the section titled "External drive" in the following article:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
If you are still having trouble transferring the library using this method, you may want to try using the Home Sharing method in the article.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Transferring my entire music library - desktop to laptop.  HOW??

GReetings! I have my iTunes on my old desktop PC. All 875 pieces of music.
I Just got a new laptop which will replace that 8-year old desktop. NOW, how
do I migrate my entire old music library to iTunes on the new
laptop?? I tried copying the playlists one at a time. It seemes to work, but
when I tried to play some pieces, there's a '!' by every selection that says
"the original can't be found". WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG? Hope someone
can help. The last thing i want do do is get out 150+ CDs and load them into
my laptop!!! I shouldn't have to do that!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • How do I remove entire iTunes library that has duplicated itself in each individual playlist???

    Hi,
Further to my previous posting yesterday I have somehow miraculously managed to find and restore my playlist folders (although some of my playlists that I created are missing tracks for some reason - any suggestions???).
However, as happy as I am, when I click on the folder heading for each playlist eg. ADELE it drops down the playlist I have for each albumie. 19, 21 but the folder itself shows my entire iTunes library. Bizarre! Any suggestion as to how I remove the library from each individual folder?
I have added a new folder and re-named > dragged playlists into it and then deleted the old one with the entire library in, but taking into account I have a huge iTunes library it will take me hours to do this for all of my folders.
    Help much appreciated! ;-))

And do I take it that the actually playlist, e.g. THE E.N.D. only shows the tracks of that album? Anyway, something has gone horribly wrong.
The easiest way to resolve this might be to go back to an earlier build of your iTunes library and then bring it up to date with any recently added content, like this:
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
I would add that you probably have too many playlists. The column browser provides a way to quickly locate, for example, all tracks by an artist, in a certain genre, or specific albums. Creating multiple playlist folders for artists, with playlists for their albums, is overkill. Playlists are best used to create lists or selections that can't be pulled out easily from the Column Browser.

  • Ex-Mac user now on Windows 7: How to acccess my iTunes library (now on my PC) with my Windows iTunes?

I'm an ex-Mac user now on Windows 7: How to acccess my former Mac iTunes library (now on my PC) with my Windows iTunes? I get error message: The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Roy

So, what I have done so far to try to achieve this is:
I have my Windows PC with it's NTFS formatted external HDD containing the music etc.
I have my Mac with a new external HDD formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    On the Windows PC:
    * I opened up iTunes.
    * Went into Preferences, and then under the Advanced tab I checked both 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library', so that all the files would be in the main iTunes Media folder when I copy it over.
    * Then File, Library, Organise Library and ticked the 'Consolidate Files' so that it moves any files that aren't in the right folder.
Next I copied the files over. So I copied the updated media folder from the NTFS (Windows) external HDD onto the Mac external HDD.
And I copied the files from in My Documents/Music/iTunes on the Windows PC to User/Music on the Mac.
But this doesn't seem to have done it.

    Holly:
I'm assuming that you have your iTunes library on a desktop machine and want to move your songs to your laptop. You have a couple of choices. If your library is small, you can create a backup copy onto a Data CD then copy the CD's contents onto your laptop.
    1) Go to Preferences, select the Burning tab, click on the Data CD option.
    2) Create a new playlist and copy the contents of the library to this new playlist.
    3) Right-click on the new playlist and select Burn Playlist to disc
    4) Launch iTunes on your laptop
    4) Once the CDs are burned on your desktop, take them over to the laptop and copy them into your iTunes Music folder on the laptop
5). Launch iTunes on your laptop and drag the tracks from the iTunes Music folder onto iTunes.
If your library is not so small (ie, it won't fit on just a couple of data CDs)
If your ipod is less than half full, you can use it to quickly transfer the songs:
    On your desktop:
    1) Launch iTunes and go to Edit ... Preferences. Leave the window open
    2) Plug in your iPod to the desktop machine
    3) Once its active on your desktop, open My Computer and you will see your iPod mounted as a "Removable Disk". Open this icon up and you will see several folders such as "Calendars", "Contacts", etc. Right-click within this window and select New ... folder to create a new folder on your iPod
    4) Open that new folder up
    5) Go to your iTunes Music folder and copy its contents into the new folder you created above.
    6) Once completed, go to iTunes and cancel out of the Preferences window. Your iPod will update and then will dismount. (If you've changed your setting to keep the iPod mounted at all times, then you will need to right-click on your iPod entry to eject it.)
Go over to your laptop and do the following:
    1) Launch iTunes and go to Edit ... Preferences. Leave the window open
    2) Plug in your iPod to the laptop
    3) Once its active on your desktop, open My Computer and you will see your iPod mounted as a "Removable Disk". Open this icon up and you will see the new folder you just created above
    4) Open that new folder up and copy all your tracks to the iTunes Music folder on your laptop
    5) Cancel out of the preferences window. Your iPod should unmount.
    6) With iTunes open on your laptop, click on Library.
    7) Go to the folder on your laptop that contains all your songs, select all your tracks and drag them into iTunes.
