I tried installing windows using bootcamp and it didnt work properly, now neither is load.

So i tried installing windows, it got to the point where you are on the windows setup after a reboot. I didnt have enough space on my mac so i pressed cancel and it shut down my mac. Now when i start it up it says "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" so i put in the memory stick i used and press all the keys and nothing happens, i even try restarting it with it in and taking it out and restarting it but the same message keeps coming up. I have no idea what to do, any advice?

Two possibilities: As CellerDweller suggests, your computer is still set to boot from the Windows partition which it cannot. restart holding Option (also labeled Alt). The second is that you erased the Mac partition. If attempting to reboot with the Option key and selecting the Mac drive fails, restart holding Command R to enter Recovery mode. You can then run Disk Utilities to repartition the Mac the the GUID partition scheme and then format the drive as MacOS Extended (journaled). If you have a backup you can then restore using the backup drive. If not you can redownload the Mac OS.

  • How do I install windows using BootCamp without cd drive fot the new MBP?

I need some softwares for my work (modelsim, altera, ltspices etc) but some of them only supports windows.
New MBP doesnt seem to have a cd driver.
How do I install windows using bootcamp without cd drivers?

You can use a USB thumbdrive to do this, assuming you have access to a windows machine to format the usb stick.
I installed Win7 on my MB Air (2011), which of course lacks a DVD drive altogether, using this technique.
Basically, you download a tool called rEFIt to your macbook. ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/refit/files/rEFIt/0.14/rEFIt-0.14.dmg/download ) When this is installed, it gives you a boot selector menu when you boot the Macbook ('Do you want to boot to MacOS or to the USB drive?')
Then you download and run an Apple tool called Boot Camp Assistant, which allows you to partition your HD for the two operating systems to share; it also pulls down all the windows drivers you need.
Then prep the USB thumbdrive on a windows machine to be a Win7 installer disk. You'll want a drive in the 4gb+ range I think. You have to set up the thumbdrive to be bootable (lots of tools for that available), and then copy all the windows installation files over to it.
Put the thumbdrive in the macbook and boot holding down the option key.
Choose the rEFIt icon on boot, then choose to boot from the thumbdrive, then format your new windows partition to something Win7 can handle, and install windows.
On my machine I followed a slightly more involved process and wiped out MacOS entirely. I would have kept it on a small partition if I'd had a bigger hard drive.

  • If I use a USB stick for time machine, will I be able to install Windows (using bootcamp) from the same USB?

I have a 64GB USB Stick, and I am interested in usign it with time machine. My question is, firstly, is this possible? And secondly, if I do do this, would it be possible to install windows using bootcamp from the same USB. My mother refuses to let me install windows without a backup of Mac OS X, so I really need to know if this is possible???

You need to use a drive that is larger than your Mac's internal drive for Time Machine, so a USB stick will not work.  You need to buy an external hard drive.  It's worth it. Time machine is a fantastic backup system, keeping not just a single backup, but multiple versions of your files as well (hence the need for a larger drive).

Hello I am using Ipad 4 and its charger is not working while I was using it few days before and it was working properly now it says that the cable does not support this Ipad Please Help me out.

    Try a reset:
    - Hold the home button and sleep/wake button down at the same time. When the Apple logo appears release both buttons then try and charge again.
    If issue persists try:
    - Another known working cable
    - Check the charging port for any damage or debris
    - You could also use a dry soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush it on the port to clean it of any debris that could be in there

  • I tried to update my ipod and it didnt work,I think it got a virus and then  tried to recover it but it didnt work. What should i do?

I tried to update my ipod but it didnt work and it turned off, it came up with the plug and the itunes symbol when i turned it on and thats all. So i plugged it in itunes and then tried to restore it but everytime i tried to restore it, it didnt work! So i took it to harvey norman, to see if they could fix it or restore it but they couldnt fix it . So, what should i do?

Without more information like what happens when you restore the iPod all I can suggest is:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Please help me I had installed windows using bootcamp assistant and forget to get back to Mac OS while starting by using that specific keys

    Help me

It's normal for the Mac to set the Windows partition as the default startup disk when installing Windows since it will restart a couple of times during the install.
One way to get back to OS X is to restart and hold down the Option key. You'll get a display of the various drives you can boot to. Double click on the OS X drive.
An Option key boot is a temporary choice, and your Mac will continue to boot to Windows by default. To change that, once you're back in OS X, open the System Preferences and click on the Startup Disk icon. Click on the OS X drive to make it the default choice.

  • Can't manage to install Windows using Bootcamp

For some reason I can't manage to install Windows 7 using bootcamp. It paritions the disk, pop in the Windows installation DVD and restart.
The Macbook Pro takes a while to startup (it stays on the grey screen for a while). After a while of waiting, it goes to a black screen with a white blinking thingy on the top left of the screen. Here is where it gets stuck... I've tried to leave it like that for 30 minutes or so, but it just keeps blinking.
I tried holding the option key at startup and boot into the disc, but it does the same thing. I'm using a original Windows 7 DVD. I tried a XP CD also, no go.
I'm using an early 2008 Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz) with Snow Leopard.
    Anyone can help?

Having this exact issue after getting my (Early 2008 24", 3.06GHz, 8800GS) iMac back from having it's stock drive replaced by Apple.
Prior to the drive replacement, it had a stock 500GB drive, and dual-booted 10.6/XP Pro flawlessly. Then the drive died. After running it off an external for a month, I brought it in for service.
Apple replaced it with a 640GB, as apparently they don't stock the 500GB disks anymore.
    10.6 works fine.
Applied updates, restored my home directory and apps from the external, no problems.
Ran BootCamp Assistant, made a 120GB partition. Inserted the same XP CD I've used before. Reboot...black screen, flashing cursor. Waited 30 min for it to pick up, nada. Rebooted, held down Option, picked the disc - same deal.
Rebooted into 10.6, checked the disc was readable. No problem. Tried starting an install in VMware from the disc. No problem. Tried the disc in my MBP. No problem, boots like a charm. Highly skeptical the CD is the issue.
Re-ran BootCamp Assistant, merged the partition back into the 10.6 one. Rebooted from my 10.6 install disc, ran Disk Utility's Repair over the internal disc - no errors found. Repaired permissions to be safe (found a couple minor things in my home directory). Rebooted into 10.6 and ran BootCamp Assistant again, this time with a 32GB partition. Same problem.
Rebooted from the 10.6 install media, wiped out the partitions, laid a new, fresh OSX install on the internal. Booted, ran updates, then BootCamp Assistant (did not copy any of my data back this time, nor did I install anything other than the OS and updates). Same problem.
Shut down completely, unplugged for 5 min or so (reset SMC). Booted, clearing PRAM. Booted into 10.6, re-merged the partitions. Rebooted, clearing PRAM again. Booted into 10.6, ran BootCamp Assistant to create the partition. Rebooted, clearing PRAM yet again. Removed all peripherals save the keyboard/mouse. Tried to boot from the Windows CD - same problem.
Dug out my WIn7RC1 DVD for kicks. Same problem through similar iterations. This disc also boots fine on the MBP, and can start a VMware installation without issue.
As we speak, I'm booted from the 10.6 installation media once more, this time zeroing out the internal disc entirely. If this doesn't work, I'm not sure where to go next.

  • Installing windows using bootcamp. HELP!! :(

Ok so ive decided i need to install windows onto my mac, to use software important for my university studies, and have opted to use the boot camp method.
I started by purchasing and downloading windows 8 directly onto my mac book pro, and as such, have a file called 'windowssetupbox.exe' in my downloads.
i have attempted to follow the instructions to use bootcamp, however it doesnt seem to work. When i first attempted it, all that happened what that i downloaded the suport software onto a usb, so i now have a usb with the support software on it (i think) however this has since been erased, and when i try anything else (involving iso images for example), i cant get it to work. Firstly i dont know what an iso image is, (i presumed it to be the .exe file i downloaded), but i dont seem to get anywhere. Could anyone guide me in the right direction as to how to go about this. I feel like i need to start from scratch but im not really sure what im doing.
    thanks.

You have to run the setup file on a Windows machine. If you want 64 bit Windows then you must run the setup on a 64 bit Windows machine.
Once the download is finished (about 3GB if I remember correctly) you will get the option to create install media.
Select that then check the box for creating an iso file.
Move that iso file to your Mac then start Bootcamp Assistant and point it to that iso file. You'll also need to download the support software again if you've deleted it.
You'll need a 8GB USB stick to put everything on.

  • HT3986 after installing windows via bootcamp and windows will not boot

trying to boot up the windows half all i see if a blinking folder with a question mark and after several reboots it may/may not work
the installation seem fine nothing happened i got no errors so i am wondering what is happening.

you don't have enough details for us /. you don't have a good install / did you login and setup the account once? / does it have enough free space / was the DVD burned from an ISO?
There are lots of things but not from your remarks.
What version Windows / what Mac year model and whether Boot Camp Assistant drivers were installed / how large a partition / read the guide
    www.apple.com/support/bootcamp has it all

  • Macbook pro mid 2012- Wanting to know how to install windows using bootcamp

    Hello everyone,
I'am sure this question has been asked many times but this is urgent and can't really find all the necessary steps I need in my situation. I am using a MacBook pro mid 2012 I believe. I'am taking colleges courses, and need to use visual basic. Unfortuanatly visual basic is not compatible with macs. I've done a few researchs and found out installing windows 7 with bootcamp is maybe the best solution? Probleme is I have no start up disk that came with the mac, and the cd drive is broken. I do have an external hard drive I bought a few months ago.
What exactly do I need in order to set this up? Is it still possible without a start up disk, and by using a external hard drive? How should I get windows 7? Online or buy the disk?
If someone could either direct me to a threaded explaining a similar case? Or point out what I need, and a few important steps to follow?
    I appreciate it!
    Thanks
    LJ.C

if your MBP has a DVD drive (even if broken), it requires that to install windows via boot camp so you have 2 options

  • Just installed Mavericks on iMac and Messages not working properly

I just upgraded my iMac to OS X 10.9.   Most everything is okay but Messages is acting weird.   All the messages from one person, who has an iPhone and Messages now show up in green bubbles, which signifies SMS.  Before the upgrade, they all showed correctly.  They appear correctly on my new iPad which I just set up yesterday, on my iPhone (both running iOS 7) and on my MacBook Air which is still running OS X 10.8.  I tried it with other people and some have the regular light grey bubble and one has a purple bubble.   This is only happing on the just upgraded OS X 10.0  Now I saw this on MacRumors and it is obvious this happens to others.   This is the supposed cause..
"In iMessage settings there are options to change the colors. With Mavericks they let you choose your own color that you want people to see, but it randomly picks one for you from the start, until you change it. Click on the "viewing" tab in preferences and you can change the sender's color back to clear, or whatever you want it to be."
I checked and my iMac is set to Automatic.  Is this what others are seeing?

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.
