It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

As it looks like you can't download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it at the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Follow the steps to burn it to the USB drive.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and install Windows. Don't mark the option to download the Windows support software

Sometimes it's not possible to download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant. In that case, you have to download the drivers from the Apple site.

Trying to install Boot Camp on MacBook Pro (late 2011) os x Lion

Hey everyone,
I've been trying to install Boot Camp for my MacBook but when I get up to installing the Windows support software it just stops at around 20% and won't go any further. I've tried restarting the whole thing a few times but it still won't move at all. It's very frustrating as I need some software for one of my University papers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What drivers do I use when installing windows 7 on macbook pro late 2013?

I purchased a new macbook pro from bestbuy. I would like to install windows 7 using bootcamp. Now I have read online that macs come with a driver cd well mine didn't and I got it new in sealed apple box..
What or how can I go about getting windows 7 to fully work on bootcamp.. I've yet to try to install windows 7 yet beacuse I am lost when it comes to this cd and the drivers...

In addition to the Windows disc (or USB flash drive with the Windows installer) you'll need a 8GB+ flash drive.

the "third" port being the one closest to the user while the mbp is open in typical use position in front of the user
regardless of reboots or device plugged in, nothing works (anymore) in that port...

Macbook Pro late 2011 suddenly slow after months using Yosemite. Never noticed kernel_task until this happened.

My MacBook Pro late 2011 has recently slowed to snails pace after successfully running Yosemite from a clean install for many months.
I always have Activity monitor running to keep an eye on memory and CPU. When the issue started, I noticed Kernel_task for the first time and its 0.5 to 1GB.
I have verified/repaired the disk and repaired permissions in Safe Mode. Also done SMC and PRAM resets.
CPU usage is usually 2% or less unless number crunching in Excel or watching videos.
I created a new user account, which is much faster in opening Safari and searching. There is no Kernel_task showing for the new user.
Cardo-updater is for a motorcycle bluetooth headset.
Xquartz is for GIMP.
Rogueamoeba is for Audio Hijack Pro.
These three have been in use since day 1 of Yosemite and before in Mavericks.
Etrecheck results
Oddities - I don't know what the disk info not mounted means. Not mounting the Recovery disk looks scary to me as uninformed.
Time machine disk too small - thought I was using a 1 TB drive !!
Problem description:
MBP late 2011 has become very slow after a few months after a Yosemite clean install. Kernel_task memory circa 1 GB. CPU activity is a few percent. Created a new user. Activity monitor does not show Kernel_task at all. Much faster as the new user. Permissions repaired in Safe mode. SMC and PRAM reset done. Short hardware test (option D on boot) - no problems. I have VirtualBox to run XP at times for some Win apps.

16GB HYNIX for my MacBook Pro late 2011

It is taking me so long to find a 16GB memory by hynix (8X2) to install in my Macbook Pro late 2011 . 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 . 1333MHz DDR3 .
Need a to upgrade and i think that i need a 204PINN SODIMM
DDR#-PC3-10600 .cl9 Unbeffered.NON - ECC 1.35V.1024MegX64.
Please correct me if I am wrong . And if you can assist me where to get it Or maybe SAMSUNG Memory .,Either one is Good but do not Prefere ather kinds.

I actually prefer Crucial - I have the same model as you, but I've 16GB of Corsair in my machine. Had I to do it over again, I'd buy Crucial (particulary now that the prices have come down).
Go to the Crucial website and use the System Scanner tab - it will let you know your upgrade options. Your machine, like mine, uses 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs. I don't know a thing about Hynix, but Samsung is good as well - I just prefer dealing with Mac specialists.

Cant install windows 8 on macbook pro 13 inch mid2010 Mountain lion 10.8.3. When i insert the windows 8 CD and try to install it on bootcamp Version 5.0.2 it say "Windows 8 is not supported on this Mac, Boot Camp only supports installing Windows 7 on this Mac. Please insert a DVD which contains a full version of Windows 7." i saw other topics using same mac and they installed it.

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Bootcamp 5 installing windows 7 on macbook pro

Dear Comunity
After a week and a half of trying to install Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro Early 2008 after installing Mountain Lion then trying via Bootcamp 5 resultedl in trashing my whole system at least twice and me having to reinstall Moutain Lion twice and all my software from scratch twice. I have eventually managed to install Windows 7 (32 bit) after days of trial and error with the use of my Desktop Mac Pro which runs Lion and the use of a PC and a legit copy of Windows 7.
The first problem I encountered was after going through the bootcamp procedure was when it restarts it can not read the Windows 7 dvds (32 or 64 bit) and you are just stuck with the : insert Bootdisk and press any key to continue, so you cant get any further?
If you use the alt key option to start up from and even select the WIndows 7 disk it still cant read from it and boot up from it, so you cant get any further?
If you create a bootable Windows 7 usb stick, it still wont let you boot up from it, because older Macbook Pros have and optical drive and you still get the insert Bootdisk and press any key to continue, so you cant get any further?
The only way I could eventualy install Windows 7 on myMacbook Pro Early 2008 was as follows:
I created disk images of both the 32 & 64 Windows dvds using Disk Utility which creates images with the extensions .cdr, which i then changed to .iso.
I created both the 32 & 64 bit images because at that point I was unsure which version my laptop could run.
I then copied them on to a usb stick along with Bootcamp Tools that you download at the start of the Boot Camp Assistant process.
I then took that usb stick and copied the files on to my PC.
I then downloaded from the Windows website the Windows 7 usb tool and using that created two bootable usb sticks one with the 32 bit software one with the 64 bit software and copied on to both of them the additional Boot Camp tools folder.
I then copied from my Mac Desktop Pro Boot Camp 4 and put that on my Macbook Pro desktop (purely because i was not sure if Bootcamp 5 is part of the problem)
I then inserted the usb stick containing the Windows 7 (32 bit) software in the usb port next to the power cable, the usb stick with Windows 7 (64 bit) software in the usb port on the other (righthand) side and then started up Boot Camp Assistant 4, you already have the additional software, so you can untick that and just continue with install Windows 7, it then goes on to partition the disk and then stops and asks you to insert the Windows 7 disk (before it did not it) you insert the Windows 7 disk( I used the 32 bit disk by luck) and it then starts to install but it is actually reading from the usb stick in my case the usb stick with the 32 bit software, it then goes onto ask you to format your Boot Camp partition to the right format NTFS to install Windows, ( at that point STOP and make sure you are selecting the correct partion or drive), once thats done its just a case of waiting for the installation to finish, and Windows to start up and then install the Bootcamp Tools which will be on one of your usb sticks or on a cd if you created a disk with them on.
I now have Windows 7 running on my Macbook Pro Early 2008 and I then tried to install the 64 bit version but as soon as I tried it said my mc was not capable of running the 64 bit version so in hindsight I could have probably not created a bootable 64 bit usb stick but I was unsure at the time

Bootcamp will support your MacBook Pro, and 32 bit versions of windows 7 for sure. To find out if you can run 64 bit versions go through the boot camp assistant on your mac, partition the disk, and it will list compatible operating systems. Windows 7 will still work even if it's not there.
You can find the type of ram by going to About This Mac in the Apple menu and clicking on More Info…
Your hard drive will be 2.5" sata drive, though I'm not sure if it's user replaceable on that generation. My friend has a similar one and I think only the ram and battery can be changed on his. Good luck!

OK, use Windows 8 in Bootcamp. Be aware that there are no Bootcamp drivers for Windows 8 yet. So you may experiance not only delays but display problems, freezing, crashes and other problems.

There's not much sense in purchasing a Mac to run only Windows on it. Keep in mind that drivers for Windows are a secondary concern for Apple. While Windows will typicall run fine, things like power managment are not optimized under Windows (you'll get less time on battery while running Windows). You will also not be able to install firmware updates. Firmware updates might be necessary whether you run Windows or OS X as they are updates to the code in your hardware and are not OS-specific. You must be running OS X in order to install a firmware update. You can do this even if you boot off of an external drive with OS X installed on it. At the very least, you should keep just a small partition for OS X on your internal drive.

It can't be done. If your computer has an internal optical drive, working or not, that is the drive you must use. Only computers such as the Macbook Pro Retina/Macbook Air that have no internal optical drive can install Windows from an external drive.

It is not clear what you are asking. You can install Windows 7 on Macbook Pro using Boot Camp Assistant. Follow the linked to instructions. All Windows programs will work just as they would on a Windows PC with similar specs as your Macbook Pro.
