Did you follow the instructions in the message and contact Apple, which you can do through iTunes Store Support. If Apple have asked you to contact them, then the issue can only be resolved by them.

You said it was a network drive. So is someone else on the network using that same file or may have have left with excel still accessing it on their system?

If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

In case you are facing issues uninstalling the app's then please try manual cleanup of Adobe from your machine by following the below mentioned steps:
1. Navigate to Applications and trash all Adobe app's and Adobe folder.
2. Navigate to Applications/Utilities/ and trash Adobe Application Manager,Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Installer folder.
3. Go to Library/Application Support and trash Adobe.
4.Go to ~/Library/Application Support and trash Adobe.
Try installing the CC app's and let us know if still the error persists.

I've been having the same issues too, and thought it was just my outdated computer or account?!
Every time I try to purchase a song, "session has timed out" shows up after I click "agree" to the terms!? I seem to be in the exact same scenario as 'SportsBarn' above: Itunes support have replied repeatedly with the same "solutions" but nothing has helped or even been applicable. I have an older laptop, 2005 Powerbook running OS X 10.4 Tiger so it's not compatible with the latest iTunes 10.5.2 which requires minimum OS X 10.5. I've been using the balance already in my iTunes account (from redeemed giftcards over the past few years) with no problem, until recently (my last successful purchase was October 2011). Go to the APP store or Itunes. On the bottom of the mainpage, tap your apple id, view account. Then you can edit the payment information. Or you can do it(if you encounter a problem there) on Itunes on computer. Just go to the store, select your name and edit information. Make sure everything matches...exp date, name as appears on card etc..

I would "guess", since you were in the middle of backing up, your backup is corrupt & most likely unusable. Only one way to find out though, & that's by trying to restore from that backup. If your pics are not there, they are gone.
