I tried to update my iPad but when I switched it on it was in recovery mode?

I don't know what to do now. I just pressed 8.0.2 update because I wanted to get an app that required it, and then the screen went black. I turned it on again, and tried updating it again, but it still did the same thing. Then, the next time, I switched it on and it said plug into iTunes. I plugged it into iTunes and all it says is 'Recovery mode' and it just gave me the option "Restore iPad..."
Is this is a known error? What ought I to do?

This display and behavior indicates that the iPad is in recovery mode and must be restored.

Well, we can't as we don't know what you consider as "more than enough". The built is quite heavy (like it can be 800mb) then it needs to be extracted to be installed before everything unneeded gets deleted...

Open the Settings app & select General. How much Available space do you have?
You may have to delete some files (videos) to obtain more space.

Then you will need to update to iOS 5.1.1 as outlined above. A word of caution before updating: be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing with a supported program such as Outlook, to an online service such as Google, or using an app like My Contacts Backup). you are probably seeing the extended display.. to see ur main display go to pefrences then display steeings and turn mirroring on.
