I tried to update my nephew iphone 4 version 4.3.4 (8k2), I did back-up everything before attempting to update and the result when I click down-load and update, it does not update instead it says, itunes could not contact the iphone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. I did check my wire-less connections and the connection from my PC to wire-less is hundred percent okay. I did search using google.com to confirm and my connections is good. Is there any problem regardings my firewalls or any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

I have a 4th gen. Itouch wiht IOS4 and i want to update it, but when i click the update button in ITunes it says "contacting IPod software server" and it looks like it is loading. However, after about 5 seconds it stops and says "ITunes could not connect to the IPod software server". I found the apple webpage that is supposed to help me, but when i went to the LAN settings in the control panel i found that 'Automatically detect settings" was already checked. I do not know what to do, Please help.
If yo mean the iPod will not connect to your wifi network:
Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Do other devices now connect?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I am trying to update my iPod touches and keep getting an error message saying iTunes could not back up my iPod because a session could not be started. i hope you have 30 dollars to blow on top of what you already spent on your ipod....because thats what apple wants to answer your question ...if its out of warranty

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, because it appears that it was not officially unlocked. -
does anyone know how to delete the back up for the ipod? I am getting an error message that says "iTunes could not back up iPod because it is corrupt or not compatible with iPod; delete back up and try again"
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and highlight the backup you want to delete and click on Delete Backup

Does anybody know why my ipod touch 3rd generations screen does not show anything? The screen is all black constantly. If you are using a USB hub, don't. Connect directly to the computer. Disconnect all other USB devices except for keyboard and mouse.

I am having similar issues except that the store starts to load, then stops, then I only get iTunes Store in gray letters on a white screen. I can access playlist and the other stuff. Like flamesgirl, I contacted them and they just keep sending me links of stuff to try which I had already seen on the Apple website and nothing works. I posted the question on another forum I belong to and one responder said her husband was in an Apple store and asked about this problem as he was having the same issue. They said an update would be coming out soon as they were aware of the problem. Who knows.
