I tried to update to v2.2 now my iphone doesn't work...

I just went to upgrade to v2.2 on my 3G and after it finished downloading it tried to install then after about 5 min it failed and gave error(9) I think. I disconnected the phone and reset it. Then it said iTunes has detected that my phone is in restore mode and must be restored first. When I click restore, it starts then fails with either and error(9) or error(13).
Anyone have any bright ideas?
Thanks

Most update problems are USB communications failures. Don't use a USB hub; connect directly to a USB 2.0 (not USB 1.1) port on the BACK of the computer. Disconnect other power consuming USB devices (keyboard & mouse are not power consuming). Make sure your USB drivers are up to date (from the manufacturer's web site). Upgrade iTunes to the latest version.
Delete the upgrade file and try to update again, and this time chose Download Only, wait for the download to finish, then click the Upgrade button again. You can find the file in: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates. The file name is iPhone1,12.2_5G77Restore.ipsw and it should be 251541 bytes. It it isn't that is your problem; the download failed.

1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

  • Updated to OS4 and now my phone doesn't work!!

Updated my phone to the new OS4 and now my phone doesn't work. It says I have to do a system restore for it to work. If I do a system restore won't that erase all of my photos? Is there anything I can do so I won't lose any of my infomation? I have tons of photos on my phone. If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful.
When I turn the phone on it shows a picture of the usb cable and the itunes logo. I don't want to do a system restore if I don't have to. I don't want to lose my pictures. HELP Please!!

That is one lesson we all have to learn. Backup. Did you backup your iphone regularly? If you did, your photos will backup with it and the restore will put it back on the phone. If you didn't, I am sorry to say that there is probably no way to get those precious moments back. I found that out the hard way years ago. I now learned to backup my computer and iphones at least once a month.

  • I tried to update to ios7 and now my iPhone 5 wants me to plug into iTunes, but I don't have a computer. What do I do?

I tried to update my iPhone 5 to iOS7.2 and now it wants me to plug it into a computer. I do not have a computer, so I obviously can't plug it in. I don't know how to fix this.

If you have the 'connect to iTunes' screen then it will need to be connected to a computer's iTunes - do you know a friend or family member who has a computer with iTunes installed that they would let you use, or you could potentially go to an Apple Store and see if they can do it (though preferably make a Genius bar appointment, don't just turn up at a busy time)

  • Ran update this morning.  Now power button doesn't work and soft boot brings to the battery/cord icon as if there's no power.  Can't get into anything.  Any help on this?

Update for Windows was run this morning---it actually made me run it twice.  I was initially able to use my phone but now I get nothing but the battery/power cord symbol.  The power button doesn't work at all.  I have tried soft boot of the down volume and power button.  Seems to reboot but same screen appears.  I cannot access anything on the phone.  Is there any help on this?

Hey there, javadan! Thanks for letting us know about the problem with your software upgrade. I'm very sorry for the issues you're having. Based on the two attempts to process, I would have to say there was a problem with both install attempts. You may need to process a factory reset. Which model device do you have?

  • Macbook Pro recent update to Snow Leopard now disc drive doesn't work??

I just updated my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 now my disc drive won't work at all! I've read a couple forums here that show everyone had this problem back in 2009 when I guess this first came out...great. How do I fix this? It appears to be a software issue. If I upgrade to mavericks will this fix it? Although I also see that makes your computer very slow! Ugh I need help please!

    Two things to try:
    1. SMC reset, Directions are here - note the steps are different depending on whether or not the battery can be removed by the user:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    2. NVRAM / PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
These steps are worth trying, although the problem may be deeper.
Please post back with your results.

You probably cleared the APN settings when you upgraded. Go to their forum to get the information to put it back on or call them.

  • I tried to reset my phone, but now all it doesn't work. I plugged it up but all it does is sit there with a scroller.

I tried to reset my phone but it didnt work. I plugged it in but it doesnt do anything it just sits there with a scroller on the screen.

    Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • I have updated to 6.1and now the iPhone doesn't accept the pin code

The iPhone is deactivated for one hour and I can' enter the pin code

Maybe you should ask the rightful owner what the code is.

  • Updated to OS 4.0 and now my iphone doesn't work when making calls

For Instance, when I use my iphone i can make the call perfectly fine and use the other features of the iphone fine but during a call if i remove the phone away from my ear it doesn't come back...neither the home nor lock button affect it..eventually it just locks and then I can access it again with my password...any ideas?

I am having the same problem and its not on every call, its very hit or miss, but very aggrovating. The screen just goes black and the home key nor the power button on top have any affect. Then the locked screen will show but you can't unlock the phone. I have to let it sit for a minute and then I can push the home button and go on in and the call is finally disconnected.

  • After last update my iphone doesn't work as a USB modem anymore

    Hi,
I installed some softwareupdate to my MacBook Air today - and now my iPhone doesn't work as a USB modem anymore. Connecting via Wifi works. But this drains too much batteries - and USB usually works more consistant for me (and it connects a lot faster). What can I do?

    Hi Sonja

    Hi there
I think in this case, you may be best to speak with Microsoft about this, as it does seem like an issue with Office, and not your Mac.
Follow this link, to find your local Microsoft Support contact number.
Or perhaps create a new topic in the Microsoft Support Communities
    Good luck

  • I tried to update the iTunes software on my iPhone today, and now the phone won't work unless I "restore" it.  I don

I tried to update my iTunes software on my iPhone today and plugged it into my laptop.  Before the process was complete, I received an error message saying I had to "restore" my iPhone before it would work with iTunes.  Even more importantly, and troublesome, is the fact that now my phone won't even work at all.  I can't turn the iPhone on, and all the screen shows is the iTunes icon with a picture of the white power cord.  Can someone advise if there is a way to update the software without restoring my iPhone, which will cause me to lose everything on the phone (much of which I have not backed up yet)?  Last, is my stuff already backed up by iCloud?  I believe I have sellected that option on my phone, but honestly, have never really understood what iCloud is or does.  Thanks in advance for any assistance/advice.

why dont someone answering gthis ******* problem..

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

Yes, connect to your computer with the latest version of iTunes installed and restore it. If it doesn't show up in iTunes when you connect it see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
