I tried to upgrade iTunes, now it won't install on my computer.

I was prompted to upgrade my itunes to the newest version. I downloaded the new version. It downloaded completely but when it came to setup I got a window saying, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below. I have no idea what this is or how to get to it. When I press cancel another window pops up saying the older version of itunes cannot be removed contact technical support group. There is no version of itunes located on my computer anywhere. What do i do to get my itunes back?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi'
With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
(1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
(2) Open the Program Files folder.
(3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
(4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
(6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
(7) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?

  • Tried to upgrade iTunes, now it's missing from my computer

I tried to upgrade iTunes, but it basically froze. I cancelled the installation with the intention of just trying over. Now, the icon is missing from my desktop. When I go to the program in my computer, it won't start. What do I do to get it up and running again?

How are you getting this itunes update? Through the Apple Software Update program? Or the apple itunes download page?
My advice is to go to the apple itunes download page, choose SAVE to save the entire file to your PC's hard drive, and click the iTunesSetup.exe file after it has entirely downloaded. You don't say your version of WIndows, but it's also a good idea to right-click and choose "Run as Adminstrator" with that setup file.
If you still have trouble with QuickTime, there is also an apple download page for a QuickTime standalone installer.
I always back up my itunes Library.itl database file before upgrading itunes, by the way. I put a copy of it on my little USB stick or one of my exHDs.

    Restart your computer,
Refer steps here to delete SC files:

Then proceed to repair your QuickTime. START / CONTROL PANEL / Programs n Features / highlight QUICKTIME and click CHANGE then REPAIR.

  • Updated itunes now it won't open on my computer

I tried to update itunes so I could sync some music I bought on my computer to my phone, because my phone wasn't letting me download it directly. Now iTunes won't open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it twice, but each time it will not open. Also, when I'm installing it, it tells me I have iTunes currently running, which I don't.

I had this and managed to fix it:
    Download iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Open the Terminal
    Run "sudo rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app"
    Re-install iTunes

  • ITunes 7.0 won't install on my computer

I downloaded the new iTunes and it started to install but I got an error message reporting a conflict with iPod driver on my computer.
After trying numerous times to re-download and intall and getting the same message, I uninstalled all iPod drivers, all instances of Quicktime and all instances of iTunes and restarted.
I also used a registry cleaner tool and restarted again.
Even with no iPod drivers, Quick time or iTunes installed, iTunes 7 installer still reports a conflict with an iPod driver on my system that I cannot locate or remove.
I have since re-installed the previous version of iTunes and it works fine. I have a 60GB video iPod.

  • Upgraded itunes, now it won't open

Just updated to itunes, can't get it working. My quiktime works fine. We have uninstalled and installed several times. When i click on the icon it sounds like it will open but fails to. No messages pop up either, it just dosen't work. I tried a set of instructions off apple site but this one didn't work either:
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Navigate to the following location by either typing it into the address bar, copying and pasting it into the address bar, or clicking through the folder hierarchy listed:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info
    7. Right-click the SC Info.sidb file shown and on the shortcut menu, click Delete.
    8. Restart the computer and open iTunes.
Does anyone have a viable solution, I'm ****** off. Thanks

hmmmm. we'd still better check on the Norton situation.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.<br />
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file with a double-click if necessary and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.<br />

  • Trying to upgrade itunes says it cant find the source file for bonjour or quicktime. so it won't update. any help?

Trying to upgrade itunes. it says it needs the source file to upgrade bonjour and quicktime. I downloaded itunes from a website originally. So therefore, i do not have a "source file" now i try to open itunes and i get a message that says something like "action only valid for installed software. Any ideas? oh ya, and i tried to delete itunes and bonjour and quicktime to start all over but it also said it needs the source files.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes, QuickTime and Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

itunes error (-42404) -- Okay, getting a little frustrated (but then again, who isn't a little frustrated?). I recently tried to upgrade iTunes software a few days ago but it failed. What is (-42404) error code mean?
    I get the following:
      (1) iTunes - The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? Yes/No
      (2) iTunes - The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes if you wish to use these devices. OK
      (3) iTunes error message - A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) OK
      (4) iTunes error message - We could not complete your iTunes Store request. A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes. (-42404) There is an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later. OK
Okay, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall. Funny, iTunes can be found in a program folder, but it does not show up in the programs list. I tried to look for it using the command prompt ("wmic" --> "product get name") but iTunes is not there either. Doesn't even show up in the registry to try to uninstall.
I just want to "properly" uninstall and reinstall iTunes (plus the other usual suspects, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, & Apple Application Support). If anyone out there has any suggestions, please help! (I'm running Windows Vista -- don't judge/laugh) :-)

Okay, feeling like an idiot, but will share so others don't have to. I rebooted my computer and that enabled iTunes to reappear in the programs list. Don't appear to be having the same problems as before (no error messages now). Problem solved!

i tried to upgrade itunes and i get windows error 7 - it says "The procedure entry point AVCFPlayerEnableHardwareAcceleratedVideoDecoderKey could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

"The feature that you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing package iTunes.msi".
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
