I try to play a song, but iTunes has changed the information on the file

After installing iCloud, my iTunes suddenly started changing the information on my music files. I would go to play one song, but another song would play instead. I have a PC. Does anyone have any idea what the cause and solution might be?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Virtual DJ at present seeing an older version of my libraries. Is it possible to Save my last library and Playlist and re-name everything else in my itunes account so it will again show "Itunes Music Library" Past libraries are of no consiquence . I'm hoping removing everything except the last Library on my computers will make Virtual DJ recognize it. I tried renameing the Library to "Itunes Music Library" but it did not work. I fear the problem is in the Registry and without the correct path I am reluctand to play around in there. Any help would be appreciated.

Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

I get an exclamation point when i try to play a song on itunes

heyy guys! im kinda frustrated i think i did something wrong haha. everytime i go to click a song on itunes it says "The song could not be used because the original song could not be found. would you like to locate?" and yes i want to locate but it wont let me! the little exclamation point appears next to the song then. please help me!!!

Is there any way you can just put your song you want back onto your itunes from a cd you have or something?

Please help iPOD has songs, but iTunes has none...I'm very stupid, HELP!!!

When I say I am very stupid, I'm serious. I thought I was get more space by deleting the itunes folder under my applications. I thought it wouldn't affect iTunes, cuz when I was delting it, songs were still playing. After I deleted, exclamation points started showing up...so I deleted all of the music in iTunes also. I still have all the songs in my iPOD, but none in my iTUNES. I tried using Senuti but says this... There was an error refreshing the iPod "(null)". The error could be due to the fact that the iPod is being used by Senuti. Please try again in a few seconds. If the problem persists, please report it. Yea, so iPOD rip doesn't work either as after I put my mouse over the songs, they dissapeared. I even re-downloaded iTunes, that didn't do anything...I am really stupid. Please can anyone help me? Again, I have all songs on my iPOD, but none on my iTunes...it was there before, but deleted the iTunes folder to save more space.

Your iCloud backup doesn't contain your music. It will restore music purchased from the iTunes store to your iOS device if you restore the backup by redownloading it from the iTunes store. You can also redownload music purchased from the iTunes store to your iTunes library on your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519. This will not recover music from other sources.
To transfer music from your phone to your computer, you will need to extract it using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.

ITunes freezes Windows 7 every time I try to play a song!

My iTunes worked fine yesterday. I left my house for 5 minutes and now the Volume Mixer will not open and every time I try to play a song in iTunes it locks up. I get an error message when my Playback Devices window opens (which is blank...there are NO playback devices) saying "Windows Shell Common Dll is not responding." Every hour there is a new problem with Mac and Microsoft interfacing. I can't stand it and just want my media player back. I have no music now! My phone won't sync. Nothing.

I'd give it a go doing a repair install of Windows 7 from the installation disc.

Can anyone tell me why iTunes keeps telling me to authorize the computer before I play a song, but then when I do the computer is already authorized?

Why, oh why, whenever I try to play certain songs in iTunes does it say to me "you must authorize this computer to play this song". So, then I sign in with my username and password, and iTunes tells me that it my computer is "already authorized". It still won't play the songs!
This is so frustrating. And there is no customer service for iTunes. Can anyone help me?

Hello samdogman - I am having the "original file not found" problem and found your post in my search for solutions.
I'm not sure how this happened. I erased a couple of songs the other day and think I erased those song files.
If I was to go to each folder stored in my iTunes folder and add folder to library I will have duplicate songs..correct? Will consolidate library create duplicates as well?

You have to actually have the song file paths saved
in your iTunes library memory. Don't drag them into
iTunes--they'll play until you turn off your computer
but they're not getting saved in your library this
way. Instead of dragging a folder/file into iTunes,
go to the top line in iTunes and select "file">"add
File to library" OR "add Folder to library". Browse
to the location of the files/folders you want to add
and click "ok". Now iTunes will have the actual path
to your music stored and will be able to find your
songs.
Or, to make things go quicker. You can go to the
advanced tab and click on "Consolidate Library", then
you can browse to your music file location and add
all of your music files at once.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

I open iTunes and try and play a song through my mac most of the songs come up locate? then the download from i tunes symbol comes up but when i try and download them it won't work and also a lot of the songs are missing

ok at time i open i tunes and try and play a song it says locate when i try and redownload it they don't work or are not on my iTunes !! but my i phone 6 is linked and sinked to this mac and it has all the songs and plays no problem

Delete the references to them from the iTunes library and then either redownload them from the iTunes Store or use the Transfer Purchases function.
