  • Install Mac OS X on a hard drive with Windows?

Hello everyone. I have a Mac mini (Mid 2011) running Windows 7, Windows only in HD and recently bought a new installation of Mac OS X Lion to reinstall it, but to download the new facility, need to open the Mac Store from Mac and only have windows.
In short: I need to install from scratch Mac in HD.
Does anyone know how to solve?

The 'normal' way to install Windows on a Mac requires that initially the Mac have OS X already installed on it, you would then use Boot Camp Assistant which would 'divid' the hard disk in to two parts one for Windows and still keeping the Mac part. It would therefore be possible to set the Mac to boot directly in to Windows and later switch back to booting in to the Mac part.
It is potentially possible to configure a Mac with just Windows on it and no Mac drive but this as mentioned above is not the normal manner. If you had done it the proper way via Boot Camp Assistant then you would also end up with a Control Panel in Windows to let you select the Mac or Windows drive to boot from. See if there is a Control Panel called Boot Camp in your Windows system.
If the Control Panel was not installed then another method of switching which side to boot from would be to hold down the Option (aka. Alt) key on your keyboard when you turn on the Mac. This should cause it to display a list of all available boot volumes. See if one looks like a normal Mac boot volume and try it.

  • Can i Install Mac OSX Leopard 10.5 /10.6 ?

    Hello guys,
I've bought about 3 weeks ago an iPhone 3G. Since i have my iPhone i like to produce software for the iPhone with the developers kit from apple. But i have one problem. I have an Acer Aspire notebook with:
    4GB memory
    Intel Processor (2,2 GHZ)
    Ati Videocard
    Windows Vista Premium
Can i Install Mac OSX on this notebook ? Maybe with dual boot.
    Best Regards,
    Theodoor de Wit

A slightly different perspective from what others have already posted:
Even assuming there were no licensing/legal problems with this & you could somehow successfully hack the OS & SDK to install & run on your Acer, would you really want to try to use that as a development platform for iPhone apps? It would be like trying to build a sturdy house on an uncertain foundation: you would never know if or when the whole thing might collapse or how to tell if the fault was in what you built or not.
If you want to develop for the iPhone, invest in a Mac. If you are any good at it, judging from the success stories you could quickly & easily make back the cost of that investment & much more. Even if you don't, you will have a very well made & supported computer running what is arguably the most stable & user-friendly OS on the planet.

The install icon has this sign on it

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.
    Good Luck

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

Thank you for all of your answer.

I've seen it mentioned on here that a PRAM reset may solve it:
    Reset PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

Hi, My Mac Mini 2006 early core Duo
hangs when i try to connect wirlessly to
    ZyXEL VMG B Series.
I am using fresh install Mac OS 10.6.3 with
    2Gb of RAM.
The same issue when i try to hooked up with LAN cable.
Any tips and adviced will be very very welcome, thanks in advanced to everyone!

    Hey there cutyscar,
It sounds like you are unable to connect to your router either by Wi-Fi, or ethernet. I would recommend trying the troubleshooting outlined in this article named:
Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a cable modem, DSL, or LAN Internet connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1317
Start with this step, and work your way down as needed:
Check all cables and power supplies
Make sure all the cables related to the modem are plugged in and firmly inserted. This includes the modem's power cord, the cable from the modem to the computer, and the cable from the modem to the outlet. To be sure a connector is properly inserted, disconnect and reconnect it. Check to see if the cables have been cut, chewed, or otherwise damaged.
If you have any hubs or routers, check their cables and power supplies. If you have more than one power supply available for a type of hub or router, try swapping the power supplies. A defective power supply may affect network traffic.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

You need to use the computer's original disks or a retail Mac OS X 10.5.6 or earlier DVD which is at least as new as the computer. Another Mac's original disks won't work.

  • Crucial M4 SSD MBP "There was a problem installing Mac OS X" Try Reinstalling

So I have an extra ssd. I decide to put it in my MPB mid or late 2009 to give it some extra life.
I am doing a fresh install from a thumb drive. The macbook find the partition and boots into the installer. about 10 seconds into progress bar this appears: "There was a problem installing mac os x" Try reinstalling.
    The progress bar goes away.
The thumb drive is good... it installed on my mother's laptop just fine.
I have the ssd in the place of the old Hdd until my adapter comes around to put one of them in the opti bay.
Does anyone have any ideas or has seen this before?

I forgot to mention a fresh mountain lion install. The M4 has latest firmware as of today.

The hard drive for my MacBook Pro recently crashed.  I purchased and installed a new hard drive (i.e. a Samsung SSD).  When I try to re-install the Mac operating system, I come to the part of the installation instructions where you are asked to choose a disk to install the software.  However, there is no disk listed in the selection screen.  Why is there no disk in the selection screen?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You haven't formatted the SSD, so you can't install Mac OS X.
First, close the OS X installer and open Disk Utility. Then, choose the SSD at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab, choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as "Format", and press Erase. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • Problem trying to install Mac OS 9

I've had Mac OS X 10.4 installed for a while on this system but after recently upgrading to a new Mac I thought I'd turn this one into a legacy computer to run all my old software. So I used my Mac OS X install discs to wipe the hard drive and install Mac OS 9 drivers but when I tried to install Mac OS 9.2.1 it just shows a floppy disk icon with a blinking question mark. I've tried a few times, reformatting and making sure I installed the Mac OS 9 drivers again but it still doesn't work. Even tried resetting the PRAM with no luck. I can install Mac OS X fine on the system but the Mac OS 9 disc refuses to play ball. I know the Power Mac G4 Digital Audio came with a system specific version of Mac OS 9 but I was told that Mac OS 9.2.1 should be fine.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Does your friend's iBook have OS 9 on it? If it does, try starting either computer in target mode (with a firewire cable connecting the two). Then simply drag the OS9 system folder onto your G4. Once the file transfer is complete, open the system folder and double click on the finder and system file. Neither should open, but that lets the computer know they are there. Restart your G4 to see if this works. I would upgrade to 9.2.2 then.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8500 909a Won't Re-Install Mac 10.7.5

I'm very frustrated with this issue I'm having. Here's the bullet points:
Running Mac 10.7.5 (Lion).  Printer is connected to this machine via USB.
Started receiving message on my all-in-one HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 909a that scanning wouldn't work and to check documentation for help.
While looking online and going through some troubleshooting, I deleted the Printer from my print que to try and re-install fresh.
The main issue I'm having is I can't seem to re-install this printer no matter what I try.  Here's what I've tried....
Tried launching the HP SETUP UTILITY (ver 2.3.15) and HP DEVICE MANAGER (1.5.8) that was installed on this machine for the printer.  When going through the setup utility, my device is not seen, then it's seen for a screen and then I'm prompted with a message that says my device is not supported by this installer and that I should go to hp.com/support for more help.
When I go through SYS PREF > PRINT & FAX and try to click the "+" to ADD PRINTER, the printer never shows in the 'default' choices as even being there/connected.
When I go to find help on the support site, the only directions I can find tell me that for Lion, I should use Apple's software update to download the newest update (which I'm pretty sure has already downloaded to this machine in the past).  Tried restarting my Mac, restarting and disconnecting all wires between printer and Mac, to see if this would job the software updater that this printer is connected.
I've scoured the HP website to try and find the 'hp setup utility for lion' install file but it doesn't appear to be available for manual download -- every direction just points back to software updater.
So that's where I'm at -- I feel like I'm stuck in this little black hole where I can't use the HP setup program on this machine b/c it's too old and I can't download anything 'newer' from Apple's Software Updater.  I did go to Apple's site and download the drivers for Mac OSX Mountain Lion & Lion. I installed that to this machine, restarted and still nothing that shows this USB printer as being connected.
    Please help.

    Hi chadkafka,
    Follow the steps below
    1. Check that your USB cable is good by using a new one
    2. Open System Preferences, and then right click in the open white area. Select Reset printing system
Note: if you have any other printers installed this will remove all printers in the print queue.
    3. Open Disk Utlity, and then select your hard drive. Click on Repair Disk Permissions
    4. Plug in the USB cable to the Mac, and then select Not now when it asks you to install the printer
    5. Click on the Mac apple icon in upper left corner, and then run Software update to reinstall the printer using the ASU.
Let me know if you get the printer installed successfully?

  • Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine

Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine.
installed new internal disk first with fresh 10.7.3 Lion software. Also upgrade ram to 4GB. Work great, super fast.
BUT.... my WD 1TB firewire400 external disks no longer work with the Lion enabled machine now.
FURTHER... I read somewhere that WD is problematic with Lion but Seagate was not... so I went and bought a new 3TB Seagate GoFlex.
When it didnt work properly either, I patiently searched and found a software/firward upgrade and applied.
    I re-partitioned disk to extened/journaled standard, etc.
Then assigned the particition to Time Machine. Drive turned the blue/grey color, so I thought it would work.
But, it has now been in "preparing" mode in Time Machine for HOURS....
What is up Apple? So dissappointed. Ive read these type of problems are notorious with Lion and I wish I never upgraded.
Are you trying to make issues with External disks, to drive people to iCloud?  That trick ont work in me. I will not reward bad behaviour Apple.
Please provide a fix... I wasted hours/days screwing around with this, instead of using the Mac for what its intended!

Solved by Pondini, on another thread I opened...
    Answer:
    Sounds like either:
A directory problem on your internal HD.  Verify your internal HD, and Repair any other volumes being backed-up per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Something in OSX may be damaged.  You've tried the "combo," so a fresh copy of OSX (that won't disturb anything else) would be worth a try (and you don't need a tech for that).  See Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.
