I try to start my Macbook and it just tells me the options for re-installing the software
Tried to start my macbook pro today and it only gives me options about how I want to install OS X again (like from TimeMachine copy, re-install Mavericks or search for the answer online). Anyone got a clue if I really need to re-install the whole thing or if there is another solution for the problem? Never had any major problem with it before.

for some reason it sounds like your MacBook Pro defaults to start up in Recovery mode. You can try this to see if it helps: once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Does it still boot into Recovery mode by default?

Why Has Adobe Removed The Option For Individuals To Purchase Software And Not Use The Cloud?
As an individual who has been using Adobe products for about 25 years for my personal use and not as a business, I find the new policy of "renting" the software and using "The Cloud" for, at least in my case, a prohibitive monthly fee, to be totally unacceptable and will result in my no longer being able to afford using Adobe products. I do not understand why Adobe cannot offer their new cloud program for individuals and companies that may wish to use the new system and have the resources to pay in perpertuity, but they should also have the option for those of us who would rather purchase upgrades for whatever programs we use and keep them on our computer without "The Cloud" service.
I am 67 years old and living on a fixed income. I basically use four adobe programs... Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, and Audition as I do volunteer work at a local non-profit radio and tv organization. If I were to "rent" those individually it would cost $80 per month... so I could take the next deal and get access to all software for $50 per month... I cannot afford either of those. If I could upgrade one or more of the programs every two or three years... keeping them on my computer and not using "The Cloud," then continuing to use the products would be doable. However, being forced into a program that requires a monthly fee and use of "The Cloud" which I do not need to use, seems totally unfair. I certainly understand that there are businesses and individuals who will love the new program, but why not have the option? Or perhaps a "Senior" discount as you do for educators and students?
Something to think about. It seems Adobe may be moving to the "Cable Television" model of monthly fees that will go no where but up.Hey there, you may have heard that Adobe is continuing to sell and support CS6 for customers who prefer traditional licensing. It's last year's version instead of the latest-and-greatest CC release, but it's something to consider if that's important to you.
As far as a "senior discount" on Adobe software, there has never been one – but one thing to consider is becoming a student or teacher because there is no age restriction on that, in which case you may become eligible for education discounts.

I have connected a new 27"ACD to a 27" iMac (2010) and cannot independently adjust brightness on the external display. Also, the option for turning off the ambient light sensor is not available. The iMac has the latest updates according to Apple messages. Any help will be appreciated.
PNo, Detect Displays had no effect. However, I made the USB connection from the ACD to the iMac after the system was on. Following a re-start, all controls are available. Thank you for your response.

I can't find the option for "devices" on the left sidebar in itunes, where my ipod should show up? It has disappeared. How can I get it back?

If you click on View in the top menu, and then click on Show Sidebar, then you will see the Devices listed (when your device is connected) under the Library and Store.
The reason it disappeared is because that little "iPod" indicator that shows on the top also has the "Eject" button right next to the iPod name, and it is really easy to click on that instead of the button itself....

Try reinstalling OS X. What version did you have installed? If it's Snow Leopard do this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -
Whenever I try to upload photos into iPhoto, they load but when importing it just stops a picture or two into it and then just sits there. I can't stop the import so I have to shut off my camera when it is importing and start again. Does anyone know how to fix this?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Tru importing from your camera to it and to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Since you are covered by warranty, I would take it to your nearest Apple store immediately. There might be a problem with the RAM. And, you have 14 days to return the machine, so if it is not an easy fix, you might want to consider returning it for another machine.

By "hard reset" you mean hold down the Home and power buttons until the iOS device restarts, correct?

I have a macbook and I just upgraded to Lion, downloaded the new software for Itunes and added a gmail account in addition to my existing aol account. Altho both mail systems are visible in my mail account I'm no longer receiving emails from either account. I checked the mail doctor and both accounts are connected to the server, but I can't figure out why I'm not receiving emails any longer. I'm trying to clean-up my stuff before I add my new Iphone, but I must admit all of this is rather daunting. Also does anyone know when tech support is available? it must be PST cause no one is there at 8AM EST!

It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
1. Shut the machine down.
2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
3. leave it for 10 minutes.
4. Connect back up and reboot.

I can browse the web but when I go to play video or you tube it will start stop over and over almost like it is buffering could this be the router all other non iPad devices work
How are you trying to play them, in the iTunes store or the Music and Videos apps ? Downloaded and synced music and videos should be in the Music and Videos apps, and you can stop content that is only in the cloud from showing in them via Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music and Videos 'off' (under the 'show all' heading).
If you don't have your music and films/TV shows in those two apps then you should be able to download them into those apps via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app. -
Four digit numbering system starting with 0001 and not just 1.
How can I re name and renumber a file of photos and include a four digit numbering system starting with 0001 and not just 1. I need this so another computer program can keep the images in numerical order
Now I number a wedding say... Smith_Jones 1 ect up to 659 but a program I use to create albumes scrambles all my photos becasue they say the numerical system has to have 4 digits so Number 1 is really 0001 thus staying in order. I d ont see how to assign 3 zeros to the front of numbers --- so # 344 would be 0344 LR wants to keep it 344.In the Library rename use the following custom settings.

I press option when starting up my computer and it just hangs or at least never gives me the list of startup disks before it's booted up. I can choose which startup up disk when I'm already booted up from settings --> Startup Disk but how do I know if my Macintosh HD internal drive disk fails I'll be able to boot from my supposedly bootable backup drive?
What am I missing? I have the latest Mountain Lion, could this be bug in that new Op System?
Does the startup drive list (before bootup) only show up if the Macintosh HD is not bootable (crashed or broken)?
DaveReplugging my keyboard into my front USB2 slot was half the solution. I had my keyboard plugged into a KVM switch which goes into the back. The other half was that I needed to unplug my backup firewire hard drive from the front port to a chained drive with the source hooked into the back of the Mac Pro. Not sure if it was the cable or the firewire slot that gummed up the hardware startup hard drive selection diaglog.
I also tried resetting the NVRAM and only got one Mac startup sound. That didn't seem to do it but then again it could of been a necessary condition as well.
