I used the Migration Assistant to move data from my Time Machine to my new Mac.   Most data seems to have been transferred successfully but none of my iPhoto pictures have been transferred.
My Time Machine now shows the earliest available Back-up to be after the Migration Date.   My iPhoto pictures seem to have either been lost in the migration process or are locked in my Time Machine prior to the earliest back-up date now accessible.
Any advice on recovering my old iPhoto pictures would be greatly appreciated.

First go to iPhoto Preferences, look in both General and Advanced tabs to make sure that things are set to import from camera into iPhoto.
Then if that doesn't help, connect the camera and open Image Capture in your Applications > Utilities folder and see if you can use Image Capture to reset the import path from the camera to iPhoto.

  • Can I restore settings, apps and data from an external hard drive to new Macbook Pro?

I recently lost my Macbook Pro to water damage.  It was about 3 years old and tuned for comfort.  Unfortunately, my most recent backup is at least 3 months old.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro and I'm wondering what my options are for migrating my settings, apps and data from the old hard drive to the new MacBook Pro?  I have a USB drive bay that I plan to attach to the new MBP to gain access to the old hard drive.  Someone suggested Migration Assistant but my research hasn't turned up any information about migrating data from an external drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!  I guess my research wasn't THAT thorough.   I booted with the external drive attached and setup immediately gave me the option to setup using Migration Assistant.  It was a little slow via USB (2+ hours) but it was nothing compared to the time it would have taken to do it manually.  My new 15" MBP looks exactly like my old 13" MBP.  AWESOME!!!
    Thanks again!

  • Migrating CMSA Assets and Data from one server to another

    Hello,
Is there an official way to migrate the data from one CMSA installation to another one?  In the near future we're going to need to move from our development machine into the production environment, and it would be great if there was a way to get all the assets we've created in dev over to production without the need to manually re-create them all.
    Is this possible?
    Cheers,
    Kristian

  • Migrating Data from old iMac G5 (PPC) to new iMac QC i7

I have had an iMac G5 PPC for about 6 years. The logic board just died about 2 weeks ago.
I am about to purchase a new 27" iMac Quad-core i7 machine, and I am wondering what is the best way to migrate data from the old machine to the new one.
I have a few different questions...
I use SuperDuper! to backup, so I do have a full copy of my hard drive on an external drive. But the data is about 2 weeks older than the hard drive on my G5 (meaning, I backed up about 2 weeks before the machine died, so there is data on there that I'd love to retrieve). I understand that I can pull the hard drive out of the iMac G5 and buy a cable to attach it to the new machine. I also understand that I can attach my external drive (with the SuperDuper! copy of my hard drive) to the new iMac, too, and run Migration Assistant (or Set Up Assistant) to transfer data.
However, I have heard that it is not good to do a straight migration from a Power PC to an Intel machine.
    Is that true?
I would ideally like to transfer all my email (tens of thousands of them), my iPhoto library, my iTunes library, iCal, many many documents, and some other random stuff.
    What do you recommend?
Should I do an automatic migration using Set Up Assistant and my external hard drive with the SuperDuper copy?
Should I (and can I?) do an automatic migration with the hard drive that I pull from the old machine?
Or should I (can I?) do a manual migration whereby I only copy the folders/files/libraries that I really want, and avoid clogging up the new machine with PowerPC apps, etc., that the new (Intel) iMac might not like?
This last one seems like the ideal choice, but I am not sure...and I don't know exactly how to go about that process.
Apologies for the long post, and many thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
    Best,
    Matt

automatic migration works well for most people but problems are possible both because of architecture and system differences.

you can try automatic migration first. if you are worried about possible problems you can choose to migrate user data only but no applications. this should reduce the likelihood of conflicts. but if you run into problems you can always erase and install and do manual migration. since you have a superduper backup this option is not going away and is always available.
see this link on how to go about that

  • Transfer settings and data from old iphone to new iphone

Hi. I recently replaced my iphone 3G with an iphone 4. I backed up my old phone and then connected the new iphone4. When registering the phone for the first time, iTunes crashed while backing the phone up. I rebooted, connected my iphone4 again and finished registration but there was no option to copy my old data across.
    How do I do this?
I'm not sure whether clicking 'restore' will work or whether that will just wipe the phone again (it's straight out the box, so no real loss if it does, although I'm concerned because I really don't want to lose all the data from my old phone.)
I'm on a PC, with the latest iTunes installed.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi! were you able to do it, finally? im having the same situation right now... dunno if it's possible or not to transfer the old to the new iPhone, they're different iOSes.

  • How to move iTune library and iPod from old XP PC to new Vista PC

I am upgrading from an XP PC to a new Vista PC and would like to know where I can find instructions on what I should do to transfer my iTunes library and my iPod to the new computer. Thanks for any help.

I purchased Copy/Tran and, as you described, it was awesome in transferring all 2538 songs to the new computer.
The only problem remaining is that even though it transferred all songs including the 83 that I had purchased from iTunes, when I synced my iPod with the new computer's iTune library, I got a message saying it could not put the purchased songs on the iPod because they were "not authorized".
Any suggestions on what to do about that?

  • How do I transfer data from old laptop to new one without using time machine?

I just bought a new Macbook and want to transfer everything over and wipe my old Macbook so the kids can have it.  I have an external hard drive, that has photos etc. on it already.  When I try to do a Time Machine back up, it tells me the drive is not formatted correctly and that to complete the back up, it will have to erase everything.  I can't move the photos back on to the old Macbook because there isn't enough free disc space.  So, I don't think I can do this with Time Machine.  How would you recommend I transfer the data over?  Thanks!

Use Migration Assistant during the setup of the new machine. Connect both machines up to a wired network if possible and follow the instructions. It's worth running software update on the old MacBook first as there was an update to Migration assistant for OS X 10.5 and 10.6 published recently.

  • Transfer of data from old Tungsten E2 to a new Tungsten E2

I can't seem to transfer any data from my  T2 to a new I bought from a co-worker. Beam doesn't work; applications are all locked but beam receive is on. Am I doing something wrong?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
The easiest way to transfer data is to hotsync to a desktop PC. First, install the proper Palm Desktop and Hotsync manager software by going to http://www.palm.com/us/support/palmdesktop.html. Once the software is installed properly, connect you OLD Tugnsten to your computer by using the sync cable that came with the device. You may need to press the hotsync button on the cable that connects to your device. This will begin the hotsync process and transfer all your data (that you choose) from your device to your PC. Now your PC and old tungsten share the same information.
Next, you will want to connect you NEW Tungsten to your computer and sync to the existing username you created during installation. This will then make the PC and the NEW device share the same information. You should be done at that point and your new PDA will have the data now.
You can use Palm Desktop to add, remove, or edit any information and sync the changes to your device.
I hope this is helpful and have a great day!

  • HELP! Does anyone know a Data Recovery Expert for I-CIoud? -My calender disappeared during I-Cloud transfer of data from old I-Phone 4 to new I-Phone 5s. It was on both I-Phones then vanished. (It was evidently not syncing during back-ups on the laptop)

HELP! Does anyone know a "Data Recovery Expert" for I-Cloud & I-Phone? - My calendar disappeared during I-Cloud transfer of data from my old I-Phone 4 to my new I-Phone 5s. It was on both I-Phones then vanished. (It was evidently not syncing during back-ups on the laptop)
The Apple techs are looking. But they can't find it. Nor can they find a back up on my laptop, Evidently when I backed up my Iphone to computer the calendar wasn't syncing. Since I only use the calander on my phone - I never noticed.
The Apple store rep that sold me the I-Phone 5 on Monday, was transferring my contacts and calendar thru I-Cloud (I never used I-Cloud before that moment - and always had it turned off). He successfully transferred the contacts - which are still on my phone), but the Calendar weirdly split into 6 calendars (2 of which were linked to my G-Mail which only had a few entries) (4 were linked to my MSN / Hotmail email and contained all the major events/data). I never created calendars that were separate or liked them to 2 different emails. I just typed entries into the I-Phone calendar. However, the calendar did exist on the new I-Phone for 24 hours. Something happened during transfer. When the Apple Genius Bar tech was attempting to back up my Calendar & merge the 6 calendars, everything disappeared in his hand while he was looking at it.
I am hoping that some really good data recovery expert exists that can restore the calendar that was in both I-Phones yesterday. It is completely devastating if I can't recover it.
Any help, or referrals, is great appreciated!!!!
    Thanks!

  • How do I migrate working docs and data from my Mac Pro to my iCloud account?

Ive just upgraded to IOS 5 in the belief I can make even better use of my iPhone by using it as a fully featured PDA. This really requires the shuffling of docments and spreadsheets in between my iPhone when I'm mobile and my Mac when I'm back at my desk and need the full functionality it has.  Until I can find a way to move things from the Mac into the cloudI'm stuck.  This may be a stupid question but it, to me, is a fairly fundemental one.

Plex is a bit of a commitment since it creates a library on a server that you can watch from anywhere on just about any sort of device. If it's something you're going to do frequently (e.g. build a library of mkv or mpeg or avi files) then it's a great solution.
I think you can probably run the client and the server on the same machine, if you want, though I haven't tried doing it before.  Plex can be found at http://www.plexapp.com
The client (called Plex Home Theater) has a setting that allows you to pipe the raw bitstream directlty through the optical connections. I rip most of my Blurays with the DTS track and plex handles it beautifully by simply passing the data to the optical out connection which gets decoded by my reciever.
Let me know if you have a hard time finding the setting and I'll boot up my copy and see where they moved it.
    Good luck!
FWIW, I never got VLC to play the bitstream directly to my reciever, but I honestly haven't tried it for about 5 years or and it's changed a lot since then.
