I-tunes 10.2 will not Launch, but appears in Task Manager Processes

Hi all,
apologies for the repost here, but i have yet to find a solution and im new to the boards (i hope im not breaking etiquette!)
My problem is with Itunes not launching in windows 7 64 bit.
* I have uninstalled/reinstalled all itunes/quicktime components - no luck
* I have tried disableing the bonjour service - no luck
* When i try to launch the application it shows in task manager as a running 32bit process, but there is no GUI.
* I have tried a new user account, no luck
* I have gone through the apple support suggestions around launch issues
* I have run msconfig and closed off all processes bar itunes, still no luck.
* I have deleted the itunes config files.
* I have tried loading with another library.
* I have updated windows with all updates and SP1.
* i have tried to download an old version of itunes and install it, and even now it wont work!
At this stage i have tried every suggestion on every forum i can find, barring two that i found this morning which i will try in an hour or twos time (im in work haha), 1 - to simply repair the installations of itunes/Qt/Bonjour, i think thats a longshot, and 2 - to delete replace the icuuc40.dll file with a version from an older release of ITunes.
im beginning to think that i-tunes 10.2 just doesnt work on the windows 64bit OS! At this stage im thinking ill have to use songbird or winamp to transfer files to my apple devices, what a shocker.
I would greatly greatly appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer as im pretty stressed about it now!
Many thanks,
Dave
p.s. as ive ran a clean boot is it fair to say that its not a conflict issue?

Wow, Amzingly guys i think ive stumbled upon a solution. i used system config (msconfig) to reboot stooping all startups and all service (hiding microsoft serviced before disabling all)
upon reboot i ran itunes... nothing happened and i went into control panel, thinking id uninstall some bits n pieces... 5 minutes later i was prompted from itunes telling me that bonjour was inactive and asking if i wanted itunes to attempt a repair, i said yes. Sure enough a couple of minutes later itunes was up and running.. i had hope.
I used MSconfig to reinstate a normal startup.
And sure enough itunes seems to be working fine now.
This was an UBER frustrating time. I hope my post might help SOMEbody out there!
regards
dave

  • Firefox will not launch, but shows in task manager, after updating graphics drivers to AMD's 13.1.

    Hi,
After updating to the AMD 13.1 drivers, on my 5770, Firefox will not launch; it does, however, show in the task manager. I should note that it will start in Windows safe mode; when I had it open in safe mode, I used that time to disable all plugins, add-ons, extensions, and created a new profile. This did not help. I also tried launching Firefox in to its safe mode, and had no luck with this either.
I experienced this problem once before, when trying to update to a previous version. I believe I was moving from 12.1 to 12.4, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Ultimately, my solution then was to retrograde back to my previous driver. The steps mentioned in the previous paragraph did not help at that time, not did a complete reinstall.
15 years of computer repair experience, and this has me baffled.
Thank you to anyone who might be able to help.
    Possibly relevant specs.
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    AMD Phenom II x4
    6BG Ram
AMD 5770 graphics, running Catalyst 13.1

By any chance, did you disable Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration? To avoid a round-trip through Windows Safe Mode, you could try adding these to your prefs.js file while Firefox is closed.
To quickly open the folder with the correct prefs.js file, you can use
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Because Firefox may overwrite change to this file at shutdown, you should edit it after closing Firefox and allowing a few moments for Firefox to finish updates to the files.
These are the preferences I think are most relevant:
    user_pref("gfx.content.azure.enabled", false);
    user_pref("gfx.direct2d.disabled", true);
    Does that make any difference?

  • Firefox will not load, but shows in task manager

Sometimes when I try to open firefox the program will not open, but it appears in task manager.
I can end process, sometimes I can open then and other times it will not open.
Then I have to reboot for it to open. I was using ver 36.0.0.4 then upgraded to 37 with no change.
I went back to ver 28 and tried it and it worked, but I did not try that many times.
It will work for 4 or 5 times then stop working and I have to reboot.
    I am using windows 7 32 bit.

  • TS1717 I tunes 10.7 will not launch on windows 7

I tunes 10.7 will not launch in windows 7

I am having the same problem. Like me, so many posts describe days of work with little to show for it. I have read numerous "solutions" but none work or work fully.
Here we have two of the most influential computer companies in the world: APPLE and MICROSOFT, and hundreds of posts with people asking for help in connecting their Iphone to Windows7, or in getting Itunes under devices, to show their connected IPhone when it does not do so.
You would think that Apple and Windows would have solved this problem and developed wizards to help their customers, but if they have done so, none of the many posts I have read make any mention of it.
Like many who have written on their attempts to solve the problem I have installed and reinstalled Itunes, disabled USB devices, and so one.
I am as interested in understanding what the technical problem(s) are as I am in solving my problem.
Windows has managed to recognize literally thousands of devices yet when I connect my IPHONE 4s (presumably one of millions sold) it is silent. That is as amazing to me as it is frustrating.
If anyone ever gets this figured out a gold star to you, and please contact [email protected]
    Thankyou,

  • Firefox runs in background (appear in Task Manager Processes Tab) only and does not appear on Desktop

I have been using Firefox on my Desktop PC with Windows XP for a long time. However, today possibly due to some virus (I attached an infected flash drive to my PC) a suspicious change in homepage (www.delta-homes.com) of my firefox occurred. Simultaneously an error message of "WinZip" appeared on screen. I figured that there must be some software in "C:\Program Files\" which is also causing problem to my firefox. I opened Program Files and removed that folder named WinZip. (Tried to uninstall it but it won't happen so I had to use "Unlocker" to kill processes this folder was associated with and then deleted the folder.)
From that point onward, My FireFox started to behave weird. Whenever I click on Firefox icon or access firefox.exe from any source (start menu, quick launch, program files, Run Command), it starts but appears only in "Task Manager Processes Tab". In that Processes Tab, firefox.exe is continuously using 50% of CPU but it does not appear on Desktop at all.
To go a step further, I uninstalled firefox and tried to re-download from Firefox official website but the download fails in the start saying "Download is interrupted". (See attached Image). So I downloaded a previous version of Firefox (v 34.0) from www.filehippo.com and installed it but the same problem is happening with this version too.
I am confused and surprised what might be causing this problem. Everything else on PC running fine. Kindly help me restore my Firefox so that I may not lose any precious Bookmarks, Settings and other Data. thanks

  • I Tunes 7*** Problems - Will Not Launch

I have just installed iTunes 7**, and although it has updated my music library, preventing me from using an older version of iTunes, the application does not run. ITunes launches on the task bar but will not run. I cannot update my iPod,. Or buy any music from the store.
I am afraid this is sub standard software.
I cannot use ie7 to try and fix the problem, as my printer is dependent on ie6XX.
    Any suggestions please?????? [email protected]
    Thanks,

  • Firefox 8.0.1 will not open. IE will not open as long as Task Manager shows firefox process is running.

Running Vista Ultimate. Yesterday Firefox stopped opening. only change to system was a new video driver for Intel 965 mobile express chipset. AOL 9.6 and IE 8 also stopped opening. When I killed the 2 firefox processes from Task Manager IE 8 opened. But AOL 9.6 is stuck at "updating locations". I tried the troubleshooting page but since most require the application to be open I was not able to try anything except restarting the computer and reinstalling after deleting the Mozilla Firefox folder.

Did you try the solution given in this article?

  • Itunes will not open (or close in Task Manager)

I did a search and couldnt find exactly what I was looking for...
    Duel Core Athlon
    3.01 GHz
    2 GIG RAM
    XP Pro SP2
    AVG Anti-Virus
I simply can NOT get Itunes to open. I am not exactly sure the version, but I tried to DL the newest version to fix this.
When I click on Itunes, I get an hour glass for about 3 seconds and nothing happens. In Task Manager, it shows Itunes.exe is running, but I can NOT end the process. (???) I tried the uninstall, repair, etc. and I just dont understand it.
I also tried plugging in both of my players without starting Itunes...nothing.
Any help out there on what I should do?

    well....
I have been working on this for over 2 hours. I have went through registry stuff, uninstalls, re-installs, etc.
I have noticed a few things..
(keep in mind when I click on say MS Outlook, it opens in less than 1 second).
If I click on Itunes, my computer freezes for about 20-30 seconds. I cant even Ctrl Alt Del.
qtime.exe (I think that is what it is called) is not found at ALL in the task manager (possibly the problem)
I did each and EVERY thing in the docs, but nothing worked. Each and every other function within Windows is functioning properly. No new software has been installed in months, and I used Itunes less than a week ago.

  • AE program not running but service in task manager visible

So, as title suggests, I dont' have my AE CS3 opened, but I can see it running in task manager. So when I want to run update it won't let me, because the service is running.
Oh, if 'end process' would help, I wouldn't be posting this topic. Is there any other way to kill this process? And why is it running?
I have Production Suite CS3 installed, any other versions are not installed.
    Thank you for help.

What do you mean by "service"? If you are referring to the Adobe Update Manager (AUM), then yes, indeed, these are severe bugs. Nobody seems to have an idea about them. I'm affected by them myself. I simply recommend deleting the updater.exe so it doesn't start automatically and instead downloading all updates manually from the Adobe site.

  • Will not shut down (must use Task Manager) & will not open new window

When I shutdown FF the FF window disappears, but a new FF cannot be started unless I manually end FF from Task Manager. When running I cannot "open Link in a new window" - nothing happens, but opening a link in a new tab works.
I am running FF3.6.13 on Windows XT. I ran antivirus software, so I don't think I'm infected. All other programs work fine. I deleted and reinstalled FF. I deleted FF and installed an older version. No luck.

  • InDesign CS4 will not launch but other apps will

So I was using InDesign yesterday, it closed itself, and I haven't been able to open it since. CS4 Design Premium on Windows XP pro SP3.
I click on it and nothing happens. The other problem I'm having is with Acrobat 9 Pro.. it opens for just a few seconds and then closes.
All the other programs in the suite open and function fine.
I tried uninstalling Acrobat and InDesign, then reinstalling and that didn't solve the problem. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the ENTIRE CS4 suite and that didnt' solve the problem. I am at my wit's end.. what in the world could be causing just InDesign and Acrobat to do this?
    Thanks for any quick responses!!

Try this, or if that doesn't work post in the Indesign forum.

  • I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years and the apps have worked fine in the past. Suddenly the apps will not launch, they appear to start then just exit. Is there a reason why it is doing this?

I have had an iPod Touch 3rd Gen for two years pretty much and the apps have worked fine. Suddenly when I go on an app it appears to launch then just exits. I tried turning the iPod off and on again, but that made all my apps behave like that. Settings and those things work fine still. Should this suddenly happen? I dont want to lose all 204 apps.

    - First try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try downloading/installing a new app
    - Restore from backup
    - Last, resore to factory defaults/new iPod.  this is last result since you will lose app data.

  • Firefox will not launch, unable to open profile manager.

When I try to open Firefox, my (taskbar?) shows that firefox is trying to open, but then it disappears, does not open, and no error message is visible. I am unable to access the profile manager via terminal as directed on the troubleshooting guides.

I don't think you did anything wrong.   You have the same symptoms that a number of us have seen.  Looks like a bug.  I am guessing that the beta testers for Lion Server were mostly power users that didn't make many changes through the new server.app.  Those of us that are rookies that are trying to setup home servers for iTunes, software updates, etc. are running into problems with the set-up.  No solutions that I am aware of have been found yet.

  • Ask your question.please help itunes will not launch on my computer the icon on desktop has changed to a white folder no error message appears and it appears but then disappears in task manager when the programme will not open quick time is working

please help i need to fix my itunes it will not launch on my computer . no error message appears it simply will not run. the icon on desktop has changed to a white folder and it still appears in programmes in start menu but will not open. it appears in task manager but disappears when the programme will not open

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

  • Firefox will not load but other browsers will. Task master does not show it's open and it will not load even if I reboot.

The cursor continues to spin then stops. Will not load.

Open the Windows Task Manager > Processes Tab and see if there is a '''firefox.exe''' process running, when you can't open Firefox and you find it necessary ti restart your PC. When you try to open Firefox and a firefox.exe process is "hung", you should get a warning message that ''' "Firefox is already running" '''.
