I-tunes 5 burning bug?

I Installed i-tunes 5 today and all was well until I tried to burn a playlist. Using previously compatible cdr at maximum speed I had no problems with previous version. However i-tunes 5 won't complete a burn and gives me the message: The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media. (Amongst other things).
Have tried a lower speed, have tried a different playlist.
Computer (i-tunes 5) says 'no'.
Any ideas what this means and how to fix?

Don't just reinstall - cleanly reinstall. Go to Da Gopha, "iTfW: stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes", 09:51am Apr 5, 2005 CDT and that should help. It solved my problems!

Les, It is still there.  Make sure that the playlist you plan to burn is open.

  • I have downloaded a movie on I tunes and burned it to disc. But it does not play on my DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

As I  put above I bought a movie from I Tunes but when I burned it to a DVD it will not paly on a regular 2007 model DVD player. Can anyone advise if I am doing something wrong?

Movies purchased from the iTunes Store are normally protected by Apple's 'FairPlay' DRM. As such you cannot burn them in a useable form on to a disc.

When I try to burn an audio CD with SDII audio files with iTunes 8.0.1, iTunes crops the first 2 seconds of audio. The audio files play fine in iTunes but are cropped on the Audio CD.

  • Using iDVD 3.0.1 -- can't get a MPEG4 tune to burn w/slideshow

    Hey there --
I'm fairly new to using iPhoto & iDVD so I don't really want to spedn money on upgrading it yet! I have played with these programs and successfully made some nice DVD slideshows with audio.
I'll try to make my points brief, and appreciate any help.
JUST USE THE QUESTION # TO REFER TO THE POINTS YOU WANT TO ANSWER.
    1. Just upgraded to OS X 10.4.3 -- is this causing the audio to not record when I tried to burn a DVD of the last iDVD project??
    2. Or do I need to upgrade iDVD (I'm currently on 3.0.1). What version could I upgrade for free... and what version costs to upgrade?
    3. I'm trying to use a song purchased on iTune -- the song says it is an MPEG4 (instead of MP3) and that it is a "Protected AAC audio file" -- does that mean I can't record it to something else, such as this DVD project or just to a CD?
Thanks for your help and insight.

    Hi ETC...
    1. What method did you use to burn the second DVD?
    2. You can't "upgrade" to a different iDVD version without purchasing an iLife bundle (Version 5 or 6) usually around $79.00 but you can look around for deals.
    3. You need to burn the iTunes music to an Audio CD and then import to your project from there.

  • I can't burn a playlist - It says it is doing it but the CD is blank after

I think there might be something wrong with my CD burner although it seems to read Cds OK
When I try to burn a CD nothing is actually on the CD even though it goes through the motions of burning, saying it is initialising the CD and burning to disk etc
can anyone advse me what the most likely cause is or how I can troubleshoot it?
    thanks

I am having a very similar issue. I am using a PowerBook G4 with OS 10.5.7. I know that I used to be able to burn audio CDs in the past. Recently, however, it goes through all of the motions and appears to be correctly burning an audio CD. However, when I try to listen to the CD there is nothing there, and checking it on a PC reveals that I have empty tracks (no music) but it still can read the individual track names (song titles). I am wondering if one of the many OS10 updates brought along a little CD burning bug? Very frustrating! Might try the Snow Leotard update and see if this helps the issue (I'll report back!).

OK, then you have surely encountered one of the many burning bugs that is afflicting iTunes lately.
Since you have already tried the lower burn speed, other home remedies to try are: If you are using CD Text, turn it off. If you are trying to burn a long playlist across multiple audio CDs, split it into individual playlists that are each comfortably under 80 minutes. If you have not updated the drivers for your CD drive recently, do so.
If none of that helps, consider burning with another program on your computer, such as Nero or Windows Media Player, which in your case seems to be working fine.

  • ITunes burns incomplete disk

Hi. I have 10 .wav files that I downloaded (legally), which I imported to iTunes v. 7.6.2 (9). When I burn the disk, it appears to be OK. But only the first four tracks were burned. If I try to play the later tracks, it skips over them like they're not there. Also, in the middle of the fourth track it is incomplete. The disk drive tries to play it but cannot and endlessly tries, so I need to reboot the computer.
When I click on the later .wav files (before they're recorded to CD), they are playable. So it's a problem with the CD or the burning, not the files. I have a Mac Mini running iTunes v. 7.6 and I tried burning the disk...all 10 tunes are burned and playable.
This points to something with my computer, or the latest version of iTunes 7.6.2.
    Please help.

Upgraded to iTunes v 7.6.2. Tried to backup purchased songs from iTunes and the first disk (DVD) completed. Entered second DVD and was alerted that speed was incompatible. After three coasters and write speed set to 2x, still producing coasters with same problem. Always faults on second DVD. Haven't made coasters in a long time until v7.6.2 upgrade.

  • Did Quicktime Update Break Toast CD-R Playlists burn,  Toast Error =-50  ?

I updated Quicktime and ever since I get a Toast error message
" couldn't complete the last command because of a Mac OS Error Result Code = -50"
There is a little Toast icon on the error screen, so Toast is blaming the Mac OS...
I can't find the old Quicktime anywhere 7.1 or 7.01 to downgrade (I got 7.1.1 update). I never had any problems burning Playlists by dragging and dropping into Toast, from my large Apple Lossless library. Out of about 12 tries I got one song to start filling the RAM cache, instead of stopping before that point and showing the error message.
I CAN copy a CD to the FW burner from the internal drive, but just not burn a playlist to CD-R, except for one song, Once.
I CAN burn an MP3 disc with Toast just, not a standard CD-R.
Used Disc Warrior, switched cables around. Turned everything off and plugged it back in agin. Played with all the Quicktime preferences both turning off and on, Got rid of extraneous applications and cleaned up my itunes settings and library.
Also Played with all the disc settings and no change.
There is a small chance that a downloaded Itunes Library Manager script could have been a bad influence, as well as a Icon Changing Application called candy bar. I removed the icon changer and haven't fiddled with the Library transfering scripts much, they stay in the script folder..but who knows? Itunes library looks in good order as far as I can see. Even reinstalled Toast and Quicktime...
I got a little carried away with downloading interesting applications and now I'm not sure which or maybe all of them broke my itunes specifically Apple Lossles to CD (aiff) burner in Toast. I can still burn iTunes CD's, but prefer the song titles that Toast offers.
Any idea where I should or any other tests to narrow down the bug? Or where to look or what actions to take to try to get CD playlist burn in Toast fixed? I have read some other Panther users having problems with the latest Quicktime upgrade and music burning bugs, but not enough to look like a trend.
    Thanks.
    Sid

    I'll answer my own question
Quicktime 7.1.1 Toast itunes update Fiasco
    Panther 10.3.9 Toast 7.0 and iTunes 6.5.2
Burning Apple Lossless files from iTunes playlist with Toast (for CD TEXT )
Started with Quicktime 7.01... worked, until I upgraded Quicktime to 7.1.1
    BIG MISTAKE!
After throwing a lot of things away and reloading lots of software, I finally tracked the problem down to Quicktime. Not much help with similar problems in the Toast or Quicktime forums.
After updating my Quicktime 7.01 to 7.1.1 I could no longer Burn Apple Lossless playlists to CD-R using Toast 7.0 or the upgraded Toast 7.2. Kept getting ERROR Messages that Mac OS would not complete the command because of a problem (-50)
To get a working version of Quicktime I had to reinstall my Panther OS discs and start with Quicktime 6.5 then find an archived update to get Quicktime 7.04.
There is no downgrade for Quicktime 7.1.1
    This is not nice!
There is a downgrade of Quicktime 7.04 to 7.01, where I started, but chose to keep the Quicktime 7.04 because it works with the Toast update of 7.02, so far.
Quicktime 7.04 will not work with Toast 7.0 Gets another Toast ERROR message that file cannot be found.
Quicktime 7.04 Requires upgrading to Toast 7.02.
I am keeping the Quicktime 7.04 to 7.01 downgrader handy, as well as the original Toast 7.0, just in case.
Whew! there went about 12 hours of my life!

  • Weird and aggravating user-burned DVD problem.

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a very weird and annoying problem with my self-written data DVDs.
Basically, when I wrote a couple of data-DVDs today, I cannot seem to copy the files from these DVDs on a Mac via the normal way anymore. Basically, when I mount my DVD I see all my files just fine, but when I wish to copy one to my computer I get the forbidden-cursor (the one with the black arrow and a white stopsign). Now the weird part is that if I select multiple files I can actually copy them to the hard-drive, but with a strange caveat; namely the file that I selected last will not be copied over.
This was the first time my self-written DVDs showed this behaviour, so to check I dug out an older DVD which I knew worked perfectly a year ago. But lo and behold, it now also displays this behaviour. What's more, it seems suddenly all three Macs in this house decided do treat my DVDs (old and new) in this weird way. The lone Windows pc downstairs otoh actually did just fine and allowed me to copy single files from the disc with no problem.
But that's not all. If I insert such a DVD and later on insert a self-written CD, this CD suddenly shows the same behaviour. Only after relaunching the finder will this CD work correctly again (sadly, this doesn't help with the DVDs).
To write my DVDs I use an external LaCie d2 16x DVD+/-RW (completely up to date with respect to its firmware) with Toast Titanium 7.0.1 on an eMac G4 1ghz running Tiger 10.4.7 .
I use either DVD+R or -R (both show this problem) and write them using Toast's Mac & PC data disk option. Between the three Macs here at home the only constant factors are the Apple-supplied system updates, leading me to believe there is either an undocumented burning bug in Toast or there is a problem in Tiger 10.4.7 .
A google-search did not bring up anything, neither a confirmation nor a solution for this problem. My question now is; has anyone here ever experienced this problem and found a solution (or have at least an idea what the underlying problem could be)?
Thanks for any and all replies,
    Tim
P.S.: I figured that perhaps there was a sort of permission problem on the mount volumes, so I ran the fix permissions routine but to no avail sadly.
    eMac G4 (1 Ghz) ATI-graphics, combo-drive, 512 Mb RAM, 160 GB HDD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Update:
It seems that older DVDs do in fact still work ok when one relaunches the finder, just like I mentioned for cd's in my above post. So seemingly the DVDs written today somehow seem to 'corrupt' the Finder with their behaviour.
In fact the last 'good' backup DVD I wrote was in february of this year, so whatever is causing this must have happened between then and now. This gives me the impression that there must be an incompatibility between 10.4.7 and either Toast 7.0.1 or with the firmware on my DVD±RW drive.
    Any insight is greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Tim

  • ITunes, Burning Cds, Converting to AIFF

I am using a Mac Mini with MacOS 10.4.3 and I cannot get I tunes to burn songs to
    CD.
    I do the following:
    1. Make a playlist
    2. Select all items (either by ticking box or clicking the title. I have tried
    both.)
    3. Click the burn disc icon
    4. Insert a blank disc
    5. Click burn disc icon again.
An alert window appears saying: there are no songs to burn on this playlist.
    Add songs . . . etc.
When I try the same process on our other computer (an eMac with MacOS 10.3) I have no problem. The burn takes place as expected.
I have also tried with the Mini, using Toast 6, by converting the songs to AIFF
from the Advanced menu. This appears to happen, with the orange button and bell
ong signal, but when I check through get info (Command I) it says they are
still Quick Time movie files. Toast will not accept them as audio files.
Can you suggest any solution to either or both these problems?
    Regards,
    William Johns

Did you set the burning perferences to the correct disc format?
What type of disc are you trying to burn (Audio CD or MP3)?
You can find step by step instructions in the iTunes help.
After launching iTunes Help, go to Contents>Burning CDs or DVDs.
There you will find several topics about creating CDs.
If you convert tracks in iTunes, they will not be 'converted', but iTunes will make copies of these track in the format chosen by you.
These copies will appear in your Library.
I can (faintly) remember reading some posts about troubles with mp3's recognized as QT movies.
Searching these forums may give you a hint.
Maybe someone else can clarify this.

  • Insignia 46' sound/pciture lag

    Hello,
I have an Insignia 46' 1080P 120Hz LCD HDTV. First off, I have yet to see anyway possible to change my refresh rate to 120Hz via tv/dvd/computer hookups. But thats not my main issue.
I have my computer, HD terminal, amp and media server all connected to the TV. Except for the computer, no matter which way I connect these devices to the tv, the results is the same. I get some kind of sound/picture lag. I'll try to explain. Take the media server for example, if I connect it to my TV via component or composite, and connect the audio to my amp via optical or coaxial, or connect the audio directly to the TV bypassing the amp, I get the exact same lag. Its like some frames are being skipped and the sound is trying to stay in sync. The sound seems like its in sync at some moments, but does not last.
I've tried all type of connections; HDMI, component, composite... connecting audio to the amp or directly to the TV. No matter what, I get the same type of lag/skipped frames/chopiness... It's very argrivating as I"ve been working on this for many days. I've seen this type of setup at friends houses with no problems. No one has heard of this issue before and neither have I.
I'm left with thinking its the TV that is the problem but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening, please let me know.
If you need more info, I'll try to provide as much as possible.
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with a TV digital tuner (the kind you use to connect to an analog TV).  After leaving it on for a few hours, the voice and picture loose sinc.  The only way to fix this is to turn off the tuner and turn it on again.
It has to do with the electronics in the tuner and a bug in the software.  This also happens to me with my DVD player.  For very long DVD  movies (like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) the DVD plays fine for the first 1 1/2 hours.  Then the audio goes out of sync with the video.  I press STOP and then PLAY and it is back in sync.
If the TV is always doing this then there is a problem with the TV.

  • Transfer iTunes purchases to android phone

    Hi All:
I understand the dangerous political territory I am now entering, but I thought I better ask my question here since I haven't found the solution elsewhere.
I have an iTunes library of purchased music on my (7th Apple) computer and an iPod. I have been an Apple customer since the 90's.
I also happen to have an older Android phone because I cannot afford an iPhone and its higher data plan fees (on my carrier).
I cannot find a way to transfer all my music (using DoubleTwist) - songs downloaded off of iTunes cannot be authenticated/transferred.  Which is ludicrous. I paid for them, why can't I listen to them?
    Thanks for any tips.

I don't want to get/buy better versions of the music, I just want to play, what I have bought, on the machine of my choice. I used to carry a nano around but it was stolen and I figured: hey! why not my phone!
Not sure why I can't authenticate my phone to replace my nano, regardless of it's manufacturer. Ethically, I should be able to!
There are hundreds of tunes so burning cd's isn't a choice.
    Thanks anyway,
    Tannis
