i have 3 unresolved questions 4 months old hopefully this one gets an answer
im about to purchase the MacBook pro ive got all my music stored on an external from my hp how i got the hp set up its syncing to and from the hard drive. i cant for the life of me remember how i did this.
heres the question
how do i (on a mac) sync my music to iTunes all i want is the names i dotn want all the music on the macs hardrive i want it to remain on the external so in iTunes all the music names and artists will appear but all the actual music will be on the external so if i were to unplug the external of course i wouldn't be able to listen to or sync the music.

when i purchase from iTunes store from the mac how do i get it to deliver to the external and not on the mac hard drive.

(this is all for mac from a pc)i figured this out so if anyone wants to do this heres how to do it (if there is a easier way please share for future users). first off if your coming from a pc like me if your external aint a fat32 your gonna have to format it to mac. if you format it beware it will earase all your data so move the data first. to format you go to application go to utilities go to disc utility clik on your external then clik erase and format it to mac. once thats done move all your files back to the harddrive. the mac can now read it (it could read it before but all your files were read only) now you can read a write the files. open up itunes clik on itunes at the top clik on prefernece clik on advanced change the media location to external location. clik the two box's that say "keep itunes media folder organized and copy files to itunes media folder. now go to file and clik on library clik the box that says consolidate and hit ok. now itunes is gonna copy all the names of your songs to the library and is going to keep your actual files on the external.

1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.

I have some content preserved by Apple in the "cloud" but majority of music loaded was from my non I Tunes store music, private CD/vinyl library.

You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the songs files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to the current iTunes library and then sync your iPod to that library.

Where is your backup?
Just use your backup copy to put the songs on the computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:
File>Transfer Purchases

You could try the following and see if they then download :
- log out of your account by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Music tab in the iTunes Store app and then log back in
- disconnect and reconnect to your network (Settings > Wi-Fi)
- close the iTunes Store app via the iPad's taskbar and then re-open it
- soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

If you just entered in your credit card, the ITunes Store will put a small credit hold on the account to verify that the card is correct. This charge will be automatically reversed by your bank in a couple of days. See:

The track will automatically be downloaded to your iPhone if you sync the iPhone to iTunes or have "automatically download" set in the iPhone's settings.

You can't drag songs (or other content) from a device back to a computer's iTunes. For music purchased from iTunes you can do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them back. For music from CDs or bought from other sites you will need to use a third-party program on your computer to copy them back (after you've copied them back you can then add them into your iTunes library via File > Add To Library) - there are some listed half-way down the document that I linked to : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

I cannot play tunes from the cloud

I have just bought a Mac book and added itunes and itune match; all my music appeared in the playlists as it should do.
The problem is I cannot play or download some of the tracks that has the icloud button next to it; although I can do it with other tracks.
The computer is authorised as it should be and imatch is active.
This is becoming frustrating; can somebody help me please.
