I Tunes is gone

I have downloaded many songs and podcasts to my ipod. I have purchased from the I Tunes store. The other day I went to synch my ipod and I have no songs, no albums nothing................there must be an easy answer....right? HELP

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I re-started my computer using the origional disc and my i tunes are gone...???? help please

You erased them when you reinstalled your operating system, obviously. If you have a backup, as you should have for any important files, just restore from the backup. All is not lost if you don't have a backup, though. Make sure you have at least iTunes 10.3.1, then go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the new Purchases link under the Quick Links. The new iTunes in the Cloud service, currently in beta as part of iCloud, may allow you to re-download your purchased content (music, videos and TV shows only; movies cannot be re-downloaded at this time). You can also do this from an iOS device.

  • Internet connections through I-tunes are gone

I just downloaded i-Tunes 5.0 and when I insert a CD to import or I try to access the music store, I get a "Make sure your network connection is active and try again" message. Well, it is active. I can browse the internet every which way except through iTunes. All this worked fine last night but doesn't work since I downloaded i-Tunes 5. Can anyone help me with this??
    many thanks,

I figured mine out. I have Norton Internet Security and when I loaded the new iTunes it switched the exceptions for iTunes from "Permit All" to "Block All". I switched it back to permit and I've been good since. Look and see if you have something similar and good luck with it.

  • I-tunes window gone crazy

For some reason I have lost the usual window for i-tunes. I know to get it back it is just a simple tick box somewhere, but I can't find it.  My i-tunes now looks like this! HELP!

Hi Fred, yes my Optical went on the fritz in my iMac 7,1, quite common & Optical drives are not long lived in my experience.
If I can not correct it, can I use a stand alone CD player hooked up to the computer and listen to music as I work using the computer speaker system. If so, what would you recommend that I use?
    Yes...

PS. Once they start making noise they can ruin CDs & DVDs, I wouldn't put a valuable one in it again.

  • Most of my tunes are gone.

Most of my music is gone.  How do I get it back?

Download iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/- and use its rebuild function (it will create a new rebuilt library so you will have both libraries at the end and can go back to the original as needed)
If this does not work you will have to create a new library that will maintain your photos but not your edits, projects, albums, keywords, etc
To do this you quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library from the pictures folder to the desktop (you can delete the IPLM rebuild library that did not work) and launch iPhoto creating a new library, make sure the iPhoto preference to "split items imported from the finder into events" is unchecked, open the originals folder in the iPhoto library and drag each folder from the originals folder to the iPhoto icon in the Dock - this will recreate your events with their photos

  • I lost all of my tunes somewhere between updates...

    !#%!^^!!($@*! Crap! This bites...
    Here's the scenario:
    - I have a G5 and a Shuffle (single user on 10.4.2, nothing funky at all - very vanilla setup and well maintained).
    - Updated to iTunes 5.01 earlier this week didn't fire up iTunes until tonight
    - Prior to opening the new and improved iTunes 5.01 tonight I did the Shuffle update posted today
    - Shuffle update went fine, software updated indicated it completed without fault
    - Opened iTunes, accepted new license agreement and entered the normal library interface
    - Reconnected the Shuffle (took it off the USB cable during reboot from Security Update applied) to receive an error msg. about being unable to locate files... Huh?
    - Sure enough, my budding library of ~200 songs was pruned to about 10 or so working songs. No difference if paid for on iTunes, ripped from my CDs, or acquired - the tunes are GONE
    - I see the folders for the artist and tracks but no actual file
Contacted Apple support and with a bit of creative guidance from somebody in a land far away realized how quickly everything became my fault...
Mmmkay. So deleting the playlist from the Shuffle last week not only deleted the thirty songs on the Shuffle but also mangled the rest of my library? I think that's a stretch especially noting the Shuffle and the songs contained in the playlist worked fine prior to tonight.
So, now that I've vented briefly over the loss of my music and the frustration of less than stellar support I have to ask if anybody else encountered similar voodoo?
I'd hate to think I run the risk of losing my songs everytime Apple publishes updates for iTunes or iPods.
Sure I can back up right now when my library is small, but how do folks manage this with gigs of tunes? I could hook up my DAT drive but finding an affordable SCSI card for the G5 is proving difficult and I'm not crazy about keeping a stack of DVDs laying around.
    Gah! Frustrating.
Any input appreciated. For now I must locate my old SATA drive just pulled from the G5 and see if my iTunes folder backup is on that drive....

Something is definitely amiss here folks. I just plugged in my 120G SATA drive removed from my G5 roughly one month ago. And I encountered the same voodoo.
After extracting the new 250G and inserting the old 120G drive I unfortunately had no success. Lo and behold the same symptom for iTunes, all of the artist and album folders are in there but no actual MP3/AAC files.
I know the 120G drive was intact prior to removal (the 120G files were the copied to my 160G boot drive and then into the new 250G drive running as the iTunes repository) and the files from the 120G and the 160G were playable when the drive was removed (I could browse at will and open the files on the 120G or the 160G).
This reminds me of the days when I was an Apple Certified Tech and System 7 came out. That OS had the voodoo where files would "disappear". Of course as we later learned that was not the case, and the cure was relatively easy. That behavior is akin to what I'm seeing here.
I wonder if I can "revert" to iTunes 4.9 just to see if anything changes (or maybe the OS prior to the last security update if that had any file system revisions in it - need to check that).
For what it's worth I did search the drive(s) to see if the files were simply mis-placed somehow and as anticipated, nothing revealed from the search.
Can I conact the iTunes Store/Support to re-download any of the purchased music I had?
This is not a real confidence builder for getting into the world of iTunes. But, I should of course heed my own words of wisdom - back up early, back up often....

  • HT1660 i can't find my itunes, I had to add a new battery on laptop and now itunes is gone

I can't find my I-Tunes, I put in a new battery on laptop and now I-tunes is gone, I tried looking for .itl files and
it keeps bringing adobe up and says there are now files, i have over 2000 songs... where did they go?

Sounds like more than just the battery was changed.
What really happened?  We're not mind readers.  If help is desired all details must be provided.

  • HT201269 New laptop now have 2 versions of iTunes: 1 on each laptop. Syncing is impossible, as is deletion and have words not tunes now. Any ideas about fixing this please?

I am at the end of my rope having spent 2 days trying to rectify an iTune problem.  I really need help please.  When I downloaded iTunes to my new laptop I got a different version from the 1 on my old laptop.  I have the same 11.1 versin installed on both but they don't look alike at all.  Why not?
Then I have tried to sync both my iPhone and my iPad from either of my 2 laptops to discover that now I have lost content on both devices, have words instead of artwork now on my iphone or faded writing on the iPad song list to indicate that the tune has gone.  Not only have I considered deleting everything and starting again but when I delete a tune from my full old library it still doesn't delete it from the device.  I'm going nuts.
Has anyone got any ideas what is going on please?  I have authorised both laptops.  HELP please?

Part of your problem may have to do with your phone. Go to your iPhone 'Settings' and select 'iCloud' to check whether your sync is being directed there. The free backup space is quite limited (I believe 1GB) so you will receive this type of message if you exceed that limit. If so, you will need to either add more storage space (purchase) or shut it off and direct the backup (sync) to your computer. If all of your music in your library is not showing up in iTunes make sure you have directed iTunes to all of your top level folders containing your music...go to File \ Add folder to iTunes \ "then select your music folders that you want to display".

  • HT201272 Hi I've lost my iTunes went to purchases they are gone

My tunes are missing from my purchase last week I purchased a second hand iMac loaded it up with my stuff the iMac kept crashing too back to the shop think I took all my stuff off the mac returned it to the shop. Since the gone on to iTunes to my cloud to download some songs but all my tunes are gone?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Duplicate tracks in I tunes.

My I Tunes has gone crazy since I organised my MP3 collection. When I open I-Tunes now it is showing duplicate tracks sometimes 5 of same song etc.
How do I get it to show just one song per artist.

Did this duplication happen today or recently on a date you can identify? Right click at the top of any column in your library and from the list choose Date Added. Click at the top of the column and sort it to bring the latest dates to the top. If you did it today all your duplicates should have today's date. Select all the tracks with today's date and delete them.
You could also have a look at Teridon's iTunes Scripts, Robert has a script in there for dealing with duplicates which might be of some help: Teridon's iTunes for Windows Scripts
Just note: The duplicate eliminator in Robert's scripts package only works for these two kinds of duplicates:
    1) Multiple copies of the exact same file (e.g. "Song.mp3" and "Song 1.mp3", where "Song 1.mp3" is simply a copy of Song.mp3
    2) Multiple entries in the iTunes Library for the exact same file.
The script does nothing for duplicates that are the same song, but different files (e.g. encoded by someone else, has different artwork or other tags, etc.)
There are also some third party programs out there, like "Dupe Eliminator" that might help in more complicated cases. If you do a quick web search I'm sure you'll find more: Dupe Eliminator

  • No Success re-installing iTunes on my Dell PC

Hi,  I have been trying to install iTunes on my Dell pc.
I DID have iTunes installed and running on this computer.  I got an update notice that Version 11.1.4 is available to download, so I downloaded it.
After downloading 11.1.4, I got two error messages, with circled RED X's, saying:
"X iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please re-install iTunes."  "Error 7 (Windows error 126)"
A second message appears when I click out of the above message, and it is:
"X Application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found.  Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
I've tried three times to download iTunes to my PC.
I have removed all iTunes files from my computer, then I downloaded iTunes from Apple.com again.  I realize all my tunes are gone from my PC, but I have them backed up on a separate harddrive, as well as on my iPod Classic, and on my MacBook Pro, too.
However, after re-install iTunes, I'm getting the same messages as above when I click on the iTunes icon on my desktop.
When I click on iTunes in my program menu list, it says that my iTunes software is up to date (Version 11.1.4).
But, when I click on the desktop icon for iTunes, it still gives me the same two messages as I wrote above.
Frustrated, I am thinking that "MSVCR80.dll", whatever that is, is causing my problem.  Anybody know what I should do to reinstall iTunes on my PC?
Any help and ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Joe

the message i get is that installing itunes is not possible due to an error in Windows installer.
What's the precise text of the error message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

  • I lost the books tab in itunes how do i get it back?

I use overdrive to listen to books.
the tab for books in I tunes is gone (it may have be caused by me)
    ANyway to get it back?

Thanks, but there's nothing in there I find that tells me how to get my Menu bar back. All of chatzilla's options are in the menu bar for any settings to be made. Without that, I have no hope of fixing what went wrong. I tried removing and reinstalling chatzilla, but that didn't work. My problem is that I lost the menu bar at the top of the chatzilla window. If I can't get that back, then I'll just have to deal with it until I'm able to buy a new machine, which I need anyhow. But being as this happened from something I did, there should be a way to undo what I did, or at least get back the menu bar.

  • 7.0.2 upgrade

this morning I upgraded iTunes as recommended to 7.0.2. after doing this all my tunes were gone. they were still in my Iomega external hard drive. I called for help from Apple care. I was intstucted to drag the iTunes music folder from my Iomega into the blank iTunes window. That repopulated my iTunes but all my playlists are gone. When I plugged in my iPod it asks if I want to erase the iPod and insert the music from "another library" since the library in my iTunes is apparently a new library. I cancelled and did not erase or update the iPod so it still has my playlists in it. Is there any way I can get my playlists back into the iTunes?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Is there any way I can get my playlists back into the iTunes?
Unfortunately not, unless you have a backup copy of the 'iTunes Library' file, which contained the playlists.
Repopulating the library means writing a new 'iTunes Library' file, which of course has no playlists.
If you didn't make any or very few changes since upgrading to iTunes 7, you might be able to get your playlists back and prevent iTunes from erasing your iPod, by reverting to an older 'iTunes Library' file.
If you have subscribed to podcasts, reverting might cause many podcast files not to be found, because iTunes 7 changed the directory structure of many podcasts.
Anyway if you want to give it a try:
    • Quit iTunes
    • Go to /Users/Username/Music/iTunes and drag the 'iTunes Library' file to the desktop or another safe place. If the next fails, you can drag it to it's original location.
    • Open the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder in /Users/Username/Music/iTunes, to find a file called 'iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd'. There may be more files, but you have to locate the most recent one. The exact date reflects the date you upgraded to iTunes 7.
    • Copy the 'iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd' to /User/Username/Music/iTunes and rename it to 'iTunes Library'
    • Run iTunes. iTunes will detect the file with it's iTunes 6 structure and update the library file again. If all goes well you will have all your playlists back (from the moment before you upgraded to iTunes 7).
I'm not sure if the above will prevent iTunes from wanting to erase your iPod (just don't know).
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes U Podcasts polluting Music Library

    Hi there,
I have strange issue using iTunes 9.
I subscribed to iTunes U podcast. iTunes downloads chapters and throws it into iTunes U label but at same time it adds it into Music Library.
iTunes U podcasts on grid view in "U" section are shown as different podcasts but in list view everything is OK.
    See screenshot for details:
    Screen 1: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/163795/Zrzut%20ekranu%202009-09-22%20%28godz.%2004.58 .01%29.png

In Music Library while in grid view I can see all those podcast's chapters all around.

Strange is - my "U" content is labeled as "Music" while in Music Library and as "Podcast" while in iTunes U section selecting multiple files at once. Such settings are "out of the box" right after file is downloaded from iTunes.
    See screenshots for details:

I can't do anything about it - as you can see options are grayed out or changing them does nothing.
Do i do something wrong or is it iTunes 9 bug?
