  • Keyboard Shortcuts missing after last upgrade

Almost half of the System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts are not showing up as <Unknown Action> after the last upgrade.  I noticed this because my shortcut for terminal no longer worked.  I also had a problem with how the last upgrade changed my /usr/share/applications/compiz.desktop file...  However, even reverting to the original compiz.desktop file I had built, this issue isn't resolved.

Looks like you now how to open up compiz-settings and turn on gnome-compatibility plugin
    That would resolve.
If not you can use "commands" to set any command you like...
[Edit] You are using compiz, right?

  • G3 Monitor saying "out of range" after itunes upgrade - HELP PLEASE

I'm running a G3 with 512RAM. It has been running Panther totally reliably for a year. I upgraded to 10.3.9 and the G3 ran no problem. I upgraded to the latest Itunes, restarted the G3 and now after the tones the monitor turns black with the message "out of range" refering to the frequency setting. I can hear to G3 drive running but I cant progress beyond this message on the monitor. Please help...have I lost my G3 for ever? is there a safe mode I can start the G3 in? I have the Panther discs but I don't seem able to do anything to start this G3 now. Please help..I love this Mac, I dont want to loose it, don't mind loosing the data, but not the mac..any ideas..please

Refer to mac manual - Resetting the PRAM (parameter randon access memory).
Restart whilst holding Command/option/p/r keys and release after second tones. Suggest changing internal battery also.

  • I have an hp office jet 4500 and os maverick 10.9.4 and I can't get it to print after last upgrade, multiple malfunctions and error, help?

I have an hp office jet 4500 and os maverick 10.9.4 and I can’t get it to print after last upgrade, multiple malfunctions and error, help? I have tried deleting and resetting printer and re-installing update 6 times. Last update attempt showed none available??? I can’t load the software directly from HP because their only option is to use the software update option on the mac....frustrated!!! Help!!
I get blank pages that just run through the printer and a stats window that just 33% complete and goes no further.

I am going on the guess that an old driver is still installed...
Use Finder Go > go to folder, and go to /Library/Printers and delete the HP folder(s).
    Reset the Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Now, Add the printer in Print & Scan prefs.

  • [SOLVED] Unable to boot after last upgrade [HP Smart Array]

    Hello guys.
After last upgrade I'm unable to boot. I have fileserver with 2 discs in HP Smart Array RAID 1.
While booting, kernel is unable to find my raid (should be cciss) and therefore lvm2 hook fails to find root partition. While going into recovery, I can chroot without an issue, lsmod shows that cciss driver is properly loaded, disk exits in /dev/cciss/, logical group and volumes are detected properly.
No matter what I do, I just can't get cciss module into kernel. Putting in MODULES in mkinitcpio.conf's MODULES="" didn't help. I'm listing my initramfs images and there is no cciss.ko. I'm also searching for module in my filesystem and can not find it.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you for your quick reply.
DSpider wrote:First of all, have you tried the Fallback entry? Because initramfs-linux-fallback.img is supposed to have a full range of modules.
    Of course, no change.
    DSpider wrote:
Second, after editing /etc/mkinitcpio.conf you need to regenerate your initramfs.
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
But the MODULES section needs to have something in there...
    Here's mine:
    MODULES="pata_amd sata_nv ehci-hcd ohci-hcd ext2 ext3 ext4 vfat snd-hda-intel"
You probably need "mdadm" or "mdadm_udev" in there too, I'm not sure... I don't use RAID, but maybe these will help:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mk … Using_RAID
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/So … ID_and_LVM
HP Smart Array is hardware RAID, therefore I don't need mdadm. Right module should be cciss, but this is somehow not working. Adding this into MODULES does not add cciss module to image.
When I'm booting from Arch install for recovery and chroot, cciss is loaded and my HP Smart Array disk is visible.

Really, *most* of the problems that people find in Linux's fonts are just because they are used to the awful default fonts from Windows XP. Yes, people can even get used to those fonts and believe they're good!!! And when they see correct fonts in Linux they think they're bad...
What I would do is remove the MS TTF fonts. They work bad in Windows and worse in Linux. You should use Bitstream Vera or DejaVu if you want good quality fonts (especially in web pages).
But, then again, you might think that they look wrong just because you're not used to it... Oh, well...
What does correct font / correct spacing mean ?
IMO, that doesn't make any sense, because that's a totally subjective matter, like many other things in this world.
BTW, I love how fonts look in Windows, and I think that must be the only thing MS got right. Thus, I'm using ms fonts in linux, and a rendering as close as possible (no autohinting or antialiasing or subpixel rendering).
Similarly, I could find a woman beautiful that you would find ugly or just average. We are all different, and it's better that way

(Well, there are some strange symbols after ".ifo"s on "dict_order_list=" line, they couldn't be pasted.)
Internet (mainly those Chinese) modules are really unusable for me, so the first thing I do when I install StarDict is I delete all occurrences of <virtualdict ... /> and <netdict ... /> in the configuration file. Maybe it will help you too if you keep just <localdict ... /> items.
There's other thing that bothers me now with StarDict - RealPeopleTTS works fine with the version 3.0.1-3 but hesitates to with the up-to-date version 3.0.2-2.

After last upgrade Apple TV 3 blue dots not disappearing after podcast is watched. How do I get them to disappear like they always have?

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

YouTube icon missing after ios6 upgrade

    D-fest,
I was upset about the YouTube app as well, and my initial impressions were that the Apple YouTube app was better, but after using it a bit I realized the Google YouTube app was actually better. Some of the features are initially not obvious (in this case it was a matter of what I was used to), but they are all there and more. It seems to generally work better too.
I don't stream an awful lot, but I have not experienced any wifi drops while doing so yet.

  • Displaying bash-3.2$ in terminal [NOT-SOLVED after last upgrade]

hello, I have this same problem: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=39192 but the "solution" posted there does not help me at all, I wish I could reuse the old thread but the 'SOLVED' keyword in the title may be confusing so I'm starting a new one.
the problem is that the prompt of my terminals (konsole, yakuake, xterm) is PS1='\s-\v\$ ' in all users; this started to happen after the last upgrade when the profile mechanism was changed somehow, I have no PS1 in my .bashrc and the PS1 in profile.bash is PS1='[\u@\h:\w]\n\$ '.
an interesting thing to know is that the virtual consoles (the ones accessed with Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6]) have the right prompt, and sourcing /etc/profile also fixes the problem on the others so I'm guessing that some other configuration file (possibly KDE or X related) is overwriting my prompt but I can't find it! fgrep -R 'PS1' /etc/profile* only shows the one I set not the wrong one.
/etc/profile and /etc/profile.bash are being loaded since the other declarations are present as well when running `set` only PS1 has changed it's value.
    any help is appreciated.

According to the UFR2 User Guide on page 2-8, the driver can be removed from the Mac by trashing the following folders. Note that you should delete the print queue first, by opening Print & Fax, selecting the MF model in the Printers list and pressing the minus button.
    System Volume > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2
    System Volume > Library > Launch Agents > jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
    System Volume > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj > CNTD**Z*2.ppd.gz
(where * indicates the printer model and 2 indicates the language of driver used)
With these files removed you can then empty the trash, although you may have to open Activity Monitor and stop the 'UFR II Backgrounder' service before you are able to remove all the files from the trash.
With the v2.10 driver removed you are ready to add another driver. However you need to be aware that the v1.80 driver cannot be used on 10.6. If you were using it previously then it would suggest that the 10.6 Mac was an upgrade from 10.5 rather than a clean 10.6 install. On a clean 10.6 Mac, then v1.80 driver will not operate correctly.
What you may be able to do is have the v1.80 driver installed on a Mac running Leopard and shared. You may then be able to use the v2.10 driver on the Snow Leopard Mac's to print to the Leopard share using the v1.80 driver. Note that I haven't tried this so I cannot say if this will work for you. Personally I always ensure I get a printer with Ethernet or wireless support so that I can avoid printer sharing...

  • Really big issue after last upgrade

    After invoking
    pacman -Syu
this morning something really strange happened : it upgraded my kernel headers and docs to kernel 2.6.35.7, but did nothing to the kernel itself. After the install of all packages, I went to the '/boot' directory and it was empty except for the 'grub' sub-directory. Since the kernel was still loaded in memory, it was only a matter of doing
    pacman -S kernel26
and it installed the kernel and initramfs image.  All this happened while I rebooted in console mode to uninstall gtk/gnome completely and install kde.
After that I went to check my system configuration file 'rc.conf' and guess what, it was missing too and after that I noticed that 'inittab' had also been deleted. Luckly I edited both files with vim which made backups in 'rc.conf~' and 'inittab~' respectively, so it was easy to restore both. After having a quick look at etc I decided to reboot the system(default runlevel was changed back to 5 so I could boot kde directly) but something was strange after reboot(I expected that) : nouveau framebuffer driver did not load and I never entered KDM, getting a terminal login instead. Also noticed that the PS1 variable was not set. After trying to edit my configuration files I kept getting that this was a read only file system and could do nothing until I booted with an old ubuntu livecd. After checking on 'inittab' again I noticed the following files were missing(sadly, I never edited them):
    - /etc/rc.sysinit
    - /etc/rc.single
    - /etc/rc.multi
    - /etc/rc.shutdown
Has anyone experienced this 'accident' before? If so, do you have any clue how I might recover those files? I would rather not reinstall the system.
      Thanks in advance.

pacman -Qo /etc/rc.sysinit reports owned by package initscripts ... which you could re-install ... might be worth reviewing logs and see if you can figure out whats going on first though ...
Thanks, after manually installing the 'initscripts' package in '/var/cache/pacman/pkg', my system was restored. As for what happened, I believe it was some bug with pacman, as the 'initscripts' package was uninstalled after the system upgrade. That package was part of the 'base' meta package which was upgraded as a whole. After the restore I issued :
    pacman -Sf initscripts
to have the package 'officially installed'.
As I stated, 'initscripts' was not the only package uninstalled after the system upgrade, kernel26 was lost too(but kernel26-docs and kernel26-headers were upgraded successfully). After the restore I tried to start kde with 'startx' and got a message stating that '/usr/bin/X' could not be found/executed. That was solved by reinstalling the 'xorg' meta package, but I believe some package of the 'xorg' group was also uninstalled after the upgrade.
