See if placing the Ipod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so yu can restore the iPOd.. For recovery mode:

I have recently purchased a used iPhone 4, when i plugged it into my pc a skull came up instead of the apple icon. My pc does not recognise the iPhone, I have tried everything that I can think of. Has anybody any ideas on how I can fix this?

You have apparently purchased a jailbroken phone. You can try to get it into recovery mode, then restore as new, but no guarantee it will work.

My pc is not recognising the iPad, I have tried reinstalling iTunes, it does not work. My computer is recognising a confection of some sort because it makes an audible sound. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

ok, here is how it started. i wanted album art in my ipod, so i searched the web got all the album art i could and put in each album stored in my itunes. everything was going smoothly when it came to one particular album and from tat time i m having this problem. when i connect the ipod the "do not disconnect message" is displayed and it never goes away and itunes isnt opening either. when i open itunes the ipod is not displayed. and i have to disconnect the ipod with the "do no disconnect" still on. will ther be any problem pls help.....

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Wow. You are confusing me. Your profile says that you are running Lion OS X 10.7.2 which is the latest Mac OS. Had I known that you were trying to use an OS that didn't meet the requirements .....
You may be able to still buy Leopard - but you can't download it for free. You may still be able to purchase Snow Leopard which would be the better choice - 10.6. You need to ugrade the mini in order to activate the iPad.
I am still mystified as to why the iPad will not work out of the box - unless you did not buy it from Apple. All of the iPads that Apple sells now run iOS 5 and you don't need a computer to activate them.

Try this:
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
Make sure itunes is updated to the lates version on the computer.

You may have to force your iPad into recovery mode in order to restore the device since the update did not complete. This article explains how to do that.
