i tunes is saying my sim card is not supported what can i do to sort it out

Where exactly did you get the phone? That message indicates that the phone is carrier locked to a carrier other than the one you are trying to use.  Note that if the phone is locked to (for example) Orange in the UK, then you can NOT use it on Orange in France. They are not the same carrier, even though they have the same parent.
It's possible that the SIM you have is defective, but I would normally expect to see a different message if that were the case.

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

  • It says my sim card is not supported but I don't think my Iphone4 is locked

It says my sim card is not supported when I put my tpg microsim in my iphone4, but I'm assured my iphone was not locked by the person I bought it from, who said they bought it from apple, and apple doesn't lock thier iphones

    Casper,
Sounds like you got tricked by the person who assured you iPhone was bought from Apple.
Anyway, Hutchison Telecom owns the mobile carrier 3 and not Vodafone. If hutchison told you that only Apple can unlock your phone well that is incorrect, because my sister is with 3 and she had her iPhone unlocked by providing them the IMEI number, after a week or so she got an sms from them saying unlock is sucessful all she had to do was remove the 3 simcard and insert a different simcard and connect to itunes sync. If unlock is successful you should notice your new mobile carrier in iTunes summary, eject iphone power off and restart your iPhone.
I'm with O2 had mine unlocked just by filling in the unlock form provided by O2's website,  3 days later received text message that I can connect to iTunes and unlock, simple as that. Although I still have 14 months remaining  on contract O2 provides this iPhone unlock service for free, but only Pay as Go customers need to pay £15.
Vodafone and 3 are quite doggy to customers and customer services is quite bad, every one has a different answer to unlocking iPhone either they say only Apple can unlock or you have to pay to get it unlocked. In your case try and find out which mobile carrier you are locked to, it can't be both Vodafone and 3. If it's Vodafone then you need to fill out a form on their site, takes about two weeks to get a reply and costs $25 / £15, (friend unlocked on Vodafone Pay as go).
I hope the information provided is helpful to you, do it the legitimate way and not jailbreak it.

  • HT1937 if you are to update your iphone and after it says the simcard inside is not supported, what can yo do?

if you are to update your iphone and after it says the simcard inside is not supported, what can yo do?

That means your phone was hacked to unlock it.
ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
It may no longer be possible to process a legitimate unlock on a phone that was hacked/jailbroken. The hack can do permanent damage.
You can find out who it was locked to and find out if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Don't be surprised if you are never able to use it again. It may be permanently bricked.

  • Why does itunes say my sim card is not supported?

i have an at&t iphone i just picked up from the apple store yesterday with original at&t sim card that was working until after i restored my phone.  This is the 4th iphone this has happened to in the last month. i wanted to restore my iphone 4 to factory setting so i could set up as new iphone. i put a previous back up on it before. what is going on? a restore should not be rendering the sim reader in the phone useless. yesterday at&t tried 3 different sim cards and they did not work so apple replaced the phone.  the third replacement this month.  now ill have to take this new phone back.  i even tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it.  I have a macbook unibody (the last model before it was discontinued) running osx snow lepard

What is happening is that, as iPhone Warrior said, almost certainly your friend mistakenly purchased an iPhone that is locked to AT&T rather than an unlocked iPhone (which Apple only began selling a short time ago in the US) and then hacked the iPhone to bypass the carrier lock. When you updated iOS on the iPhone, that hack was removed and the iPhone then locked back to AT&T.
Restoring the iPhone will not fix this problem. Only the carrier could officially unlock the iPhone, and AT&T will not do so for any reason. The only way to use the iPhone again is to hack (jailbreak) it again, and we cannot discuss that in these forums.
    Regards.

  • My phone blacked out, re-set it and now says my sim card is not installed! Help!

What do I do if my phone blacked out, then re-set it, but now says my sim card is not installed!

Honestly it sounds like you purchased a no-contract phone and not an unlocked phone.
Without the receipt it is impossible to say what was really purchased.  Contact Apple to get a copy of the receipt.  If you did infact purchase an unlocked iPhone, then they will resolve it.
What model iPhone do you actually have?  Paying $700 for and iPhone 4 would have meant it was purchased approximately 2yrs ago.  Also, there is no 35gb model.
If it is the iPhone 5, the unlocked version was not available at launch but rather released (online only) on November 30th.  Later it was available in store.

Insert a SIM from a supported carrier.
Where did the phone come from,  it sounds like the device has been hacked or jailbroken to be unlocked and updating has re locked to the original carrier. It is also possible that the SIM simply needs to be reseated or replaced.

  • My iphone4 is stuck on DFU (itunes logo usb picture on my screen). When I plug it into iTunes it says sim card is not supported. It is an unlocked phone..what do I do to fix this?!

I have tried absolutely everything and don't know what to do!!

The phone is unlocked with a gevey sim that goes into the sim tray with the sim card. But the phone is not jailbroken at all. What happened is I plugged it into itunes and it was working fine until I hit restore. It went through the restore process but once my phone reloaded all that comes up on the screen is the itunes logo and the usb picture plus the option to make an emergency call. When I plug it into itunes it gives me the "sim card is not supported" message. I've tried everything to fix this..PLEASE help!

i updated my iphone 3gs today and as it finished rebooting it said the sim card was not supported, and im my phone it still says connect to itunes, how do i fix this

If your iphone has been unofficially unlokced then it will indeed be locked when updated.  Is this the case?

  • In new iPad 4g, when sim card is not inserted, I can not find the enable 4g tap in the setting-cellular data tap, can some one please tell me if this is normal and if so, then when it appears, thanks

If the SIM is out of your phone, find my phone needs a data connection, so could use wifi - IF in range of a wifi and one that it can join (ie. a known network or one that is wholly open so no login required).  Your phone could also simple be turned off, so not findable, or it may have been restored (plugged into iTunes and restored as new) again, making it permanently unfindable.  Honestly, for someone stealing an iPhone, this is likely the first thing they do - restore as new and it is theirs forever.
Find my iPhone is tied to the users iCloud account - the find function is part of the iCloud account's services and it communicates with the iCloud servers over a data connection - either wifi or 3G.
Have you set up your iCloud account on your replacement phone, and is it working properly on that phone?

    Try a Hard Reset.....
Press and hold the Wake / Sleep button AND the Home button at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen, it can take 10 or more seconds.  Ignore the swipe to turn off message.
