I-Tunes not appearing + crashing system, no solution works so far

General problem description
I-Tunes does not appear after program start, and the computer slowly crashes by other programs (explorer, MSN) all not responding anymore after a while
Sequence of problems
1. I start up I-Tunes from the program list
2. Mouse cursor changes to hourglass quickly, then back to normal
3. I get shown the license agreement (in Dutch, since I am Dutch).
4. I click on 'Akkoord' which is Dutch for 'Agree'
5. The cursor quickly changes to hourglass and back, but nothing further happens
Accurate Problem Details
ITunes.exe, Ituneshelper.exe and Ipodservice.exe all show up in the Windows Task Manager under 'processes'.
None of these programs show up under the 'applications' tab.
After going through steps 1-5, I can access some programs normally, but as soon as explorer or any aspect of it is accessed (such as saving a file in Paint Shop Pro), that program or explorer itself stops responding and crashes.
When I try to reboot my system, it shuts down all the crashing stuff (explorer etc). However, it also shows what I think is I-Tunes as 'not responding'. It has the I-Tunes icon, but the title is all garbled. Presumably, this is the I-Tunes program crashing. The computer won't, in fact, reboot, and just stands still.
Quicktime itself runs fine, and I have no problems with any other programs or instability.
Having my I-Pod Nano 4GB connected or not makes no difference, the crash is the same.
Tried Solutions
I searched the forums and help files for solutions - here's what I've tried so far:
- Uninstalling all Quicktime and Itunes programs, cleaning all files associated with them, using Windows Install Cleanup afterward, and then doing a clean re-install. No result, same problem
- Creating a new 'user' in Windows and running I-Tunes from there. No result, same problem. Crash is the same even when reverting back to the other user.
- Cleaning the I-tunes preference files, hidden files, system32 files etc, no results.
- Uninstalling and completely removing I-Tunes and Quicktime, installing a stand-alone Quicktime, then I-Tunes. No result, same problem.
- Installing AVG anti-malware software and scanning for malware. Nothing found. No result.
- Using an older version of I-Tunes, same problem, no result.
Thanks in advance
Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated. I cannot access my I-Pod nano right now, and have no idea how to get to it.

a preliminary question. do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC? i associate those symptoms with the nastier versions of NIS-2005-related itunes launch failures.

Instant Client on 64-bit Windows 7: Driver does not appear in System DSN tab when creating a new Data source.
    What I did so far:
I downloaded the basic and odbc zips for Window 64-bit.
    Unzipped the basic zip.
Unzipped the odbc zip to the same directory.
Added the dir path to the System Environment Variable called Path.
Double-clicked on the odbc_install.exe to run it from Windows Explorer.
Then I tried to add the driver to create a new data source but it does not appear in the list of drivers.
From a cmd window, I navigated to the instant client directory and tried to run odbc_install again.
I got the message: Oracle ODBC Driver with same name already exists.
    What am I missing?

hello, I did it like that you say,but the result also is "oracle odbc driver with same name already exists". I don't kown what can I do it ,Thank you!

If you have Lion, check to see the version.
You are most likely running version 10.7.1 in which you will need to run Software Update and update your computer to version 10.7.2 to get iCloud in System Preferences.

  • Native resolution of external monitor not appearing in System Prefs - Displays

I have an Acer G206HL monitor, which has a 1600x900 native resolution. It's connected to a 13" MacBook Pro (the current non-retina model) via a Thunderbolt-to-VGA cable. The MBP is running Mountain Lion 10.8.3.

  • Apple Desktop pictures do not appear in System Prefs

I tried to change my desktop picture and discovered that there are none of the apple images showing in the system prefs for Desktop & Screen Saver. The folders are there (Apple images, nature, plants, etc) but the folders are empty.
Digging via the finder I found in Library/Desktop Pictures all of the missing files but Prefs does not apparently see them.
The default Aurora was there after 10.5.5 upgrade, then I replaced it with one of my own from the user/Pictures folder which shows in the prefs window. All of those pictures still show in prefs.
    What is wrong?

    Derryl S wrote:
Conclusion, there is now something about my account that no longer can see the contents of the Desktop Pictures folder. Why is unknown still.
Usually, a bad preference file or incompatible login item is the culprit, although it could also be corrupted data in a user cache.
For the first, you can try moving likely suspects from ~/Library/Preferences to a desktop temp folder, then logging out & back in or restarting to see if the problem is gone. If not replace the old preference from the temp folder to its original location to restore the old preferences. One general way that may help locate suspect pref files is to change the preference in the normal way while ~/Library/Preferences is sorted by date changed -- the file storing the preferences should be very near the top of the list.
You can also run a terminal command that checks the syntax of most preference files. It won't indicate all problems but it is worth a shot. In Terminal type:
    sudo plutil -s ~/Library/preferences/*.plist
followed by pressing the return key. At the password prompt, enter you admin account password & press return again. It won't be echoed to the screen. If you get nothing besides the prompt for the next command, those prefs are syntactically correct. Otherwise, remove the indicated pref file as above & test.
If desired, repeat this for the main system-wide preference folder with this command:
    sudo plutil -s /Library/preferences/*.plist
Note: since your new account has no problems, it is highly unlikely a system preference is the problem.
For login items, check the list in the accounts system preference. Suspect anything that isn't from Apple. You can list them here in a new post if you have any questions about them.
If the problem is a bad user cache, a third party utility like Onyx or Leopard Cache Cleaner will allow you to "clean" (delete) them. Try this as a last resort, since caches speed up the operation of your Mac & will need to be rebuild by the system, causing one-time delays until this is done.

  • Quicktime does not appear in System Preferences

Following the instructions for OS 10.7.2:

QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.
    I did this.
Entered the code I purchased. Got Invalid Registration.
    What to do??

Name and number must exactly match that found in the email confirmation. Use copy/paste to enter it.
There is no QuickTime system Preference pane in Snow Leopard or Lion.
