I tunes not opening

I basically have had itunes for a long time, and I have been downloading and collecting songs (though i didnt have an i pod) and I have updated itunes upto 7.02 or sumthin at the momement, and have had no problems hitherto. Yesterday, i tried to open my itunes, and it came with this message:
big red cross then it said
"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, Quicktime version 7.13 or later .
Please reinstall itunes"
my itunes would not open, nor my quicktime, so i followed the instructions and removed itunes, restarted the computer and re-installed back the latest quicktime and itunes, I tried to open it again and the same message come up.
I have Norton Interent Security and Norton Anti-virus but they have never caused any problems really.
I really need to sort this problem out becuase i have received an ipod nano (special edition) for my birthday and I need to sort out itunes/quicktime problem before I do anything with my nano.
Thanks
Pranika

"Quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, Quicktime version 7.13 or later .
let's try swapping out your QuickTime one more time, taking a few additional explicit precautions.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

Hi,every time i try to open i tunes it says it can not be opened due to an unknown error (-200) can any one tell me what i should do?

I have spent two weeks trying to get itunes to work on my computer. I am getting the same unknown error message (200). I have read through all of the posts that other people have put on this site. I have tried so many things, but nothing works for me. I would appreciate it if apple would release an update for this problem. How can they not help when their customers are having so much trouble? Any help at all would be appreciated. I use a dell computer with windows XP.

  • I tunes not opening, please help

First, I am running I tunes on windows. Anyway. Every time that I click on my I tunes icon, the loading hour glass will apear for about 5 seconds, then dissapear without loading I tunes. I worked before but not anymore. Also I am not sure this matters, but I have installed other audio/video programs, Realplayer and windows media player, after i installed i tunes. Please help

I have exactly the same problem as you, although I haven't tried installing the stand alone version of Quicktime yet. I've seen countless people that have problems with the new iTunes and Quicktime.
I love my iPod, but it really annoys me how after paying loads of money for it I struggle to use the program I need to put music on it.
I had no problems at all with the old iTunes and Quicktime. I've heard that Apple could take ages before they sort out the problems with the new iTunes, but I hope that with the amount of people unsatisfied they will make an effort to come up with a solution quick.
I can actually use iTunes if I keep constantly trying to re-install it, usually every single time I want to start it up. But there are people who can't get it to work at all and I can understand they are even more annoyed.
    Please sort this out Apple!

  • I tunes will not open - have read ALOT but still can't get it going

How much is Apple losong out to what appears to be a fairly common but complicated problem. Not sure if it all started the day I upgraded to i-tunes 9 or when I renewed my Norton Anti Virus. It was working for months even when I had Norton which i have since removed using the Norton Removal Tool. When I first click on it it tries to open and I get a message saying that my Quick Time software is outdated but BEFORE I can click on that another box opens over top that says "i-tunes has stopped working" "a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close he problem and notify you if a solution is found"
If i try again , nothing happens at all. When I go to processes I can see where it appears briefly maybe 2-3 seconds then disappears.
    I have tried:
Making another user account and opening I-tunes
    Removing my Norton anti virus
Uninstalling and re-installing i-tunes and quick time both together and separately....many many times
    restoring previous version of i-tunes
I get the same message if i try to open just quicktime.
My i -tunes library itself will also not open.
Please tell me where to go from here
I am running a newer (3 months old) HP with Windows 7 64 bit
    IDEAS???
    Rob.

Excellent news, Rob! Glad you're up and running again.
Any idea as to how it got this way? I am thinking of re-installing my Norton since it has worked well for me for the last few years and I an not exactly sure if that was the problem or if was a Windows 7 thing?
I reckon Norton and Windows 7 were innocent parties here. Some other application dumped a couple of boatloads of QuickTime componentry in your sysWOW64. (Older versions of codec packs, video converter software, other file converter software, and media players that offer the opportunity to use quicktime files "without installing QuickTime" are the usual culprits here, but some games might do this too.) That might go unnoticed so long as that componentry matches the existing version of QuickTime software that you have installed on the PC ... but things turn to custard when you have to update your QuickTime version, and the versions of the componentry in /sysWOW64/ no longer match your "QuickTime proper". (On 32-bit systems, the same sort of thing happens, with the difference being that the "foreign" QuickTime componentry would typically be lurking down in the system32 folder.)
So, we pretty much get cases of this sort of thing showing up constantly at the forums, with a big pulse in reports happening after any QuickTime version update. (It produces a significant proportion of the "iTunes has encountered a problem" and "iTunes has stopped working" messages that we get reported here.) You were really unlucky in that you got a rarer version of the possible error messages ... so there's not as much relevant troubleshooting advice available on the web, which makes researching what could possibly be going wrong for you considerably harder than it is for folk with the more common versions of the error messages.

  • I've tried to update my i-Tunes version after the site suggested I should following my i-Pad being plugged into it for the first time. The update seemed successful but the program would not open at all despite switching off the PC and re-starting several

I’ve tried to update my i-Tunes version after the site suggested I should following my i-Pad Air being plugged into it for the first time. The update seemed successful but the program would not open at all despite switching off the PC and re-starting several times. I then tried wiping the original software from the computer and re-downloading from scratch. Each time I tried the download failed with a message saying “Service “Apple Mobile Device” failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services” At this stage, the only way forward was to “abort” the download. This I have done now four times and the same thing happens. When I did finally manage to get an i-Tunes shortcut on my desktop, the program wouldn’t open saying: “i-Tunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install i-Tunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)” Any ideas to resolve this?

  • I-tunes will not open-have tried solutions from other posts

    Hello all
My i-tunes 6 will not open on my computer. A few times at one point it flashed the user agreement and then died. It does appear in my windows task manager but only for a few seconds. I know some peopple have suggested a malware problem. I have been working with my brother, who makes a lving fixing other people's computers, and we cannot seem to isolate the malicious program causing the problem. There is an application in the msconfig utility that is called "qxjj" that will not delete. We believe this is the problem. I was wondering if anyone had encountered this particular program before and if they knew how to get rid of it. Ewido, spybot and microsoft anti-spyware have not appeared to get rid of it. Any help would be appreciated.

gaah. i think you and your brother have correctly diagnosed the problem.
there's a Qoologic variant that has been causing "error-less" itunes launch failure since late October. it's associated with the "license screen flash" symptom. it also drops randomly-generated-4-and-6-letter-name startup items in people's PCs.
Ewido and AdAware have typically been getting rid of it for people, so it's a bit disturbing that they aren't touching it in your case. however, we also have a "manual" removal technique that has been working for people. let's see if Dave's technique works for you:

  • I-tunes will not open at all

I recently updated my i-tunes to the latest version, and worked perfectly fine.
However, now when i click on the i-tunes icon on my desk top or open via the correct route through the windows tab in the bottom left hand corner, it does not open and instead says:
"The file i-tunes library.itl can not be read because it was created by a newer version of i-tunes."
Can anyone help me and tell me how to resolve the situation?
