  • ITunes will not recognise iPod Nano

Just purchased an iPod nano and cannot get iTunes or iPod Updater to recognise the device. Windows does see the iPod and I can open iPod folder via explorer.
I went through all troubleshooting procedures at http://www.apple.com/support/ipod "start-to-finish" twice including the MSConfig steps. same result.
Are there any known issues running Win XP Pro with the Ipod Nano?
Are there any other means to load music to the iPod besides iTunes?
    Thanks.

  • Mac does not recognise ipod nano.

i am using nano for 8 months already.
it had little problems till this day, and just resetting the nano would help to solve the recognising problems arised in the time being whatsoever.
but this time i have an exclamation point on a folder on the screen, and it won't go away.
when i try to connect the nano to my mac, it sees nano as a random hd (namely "apple ipod media"), but does not recognise it as "ipod nano" which we love and cherish when we automatically see it on dt and itunes if it's connected to our macs.
a pop up comes to my screen when i connect nano to mac, i press initalize, and it opens disc utility. the program doesn't help me for restoring the ipod.
using ipod updater as a restoring tool doesn't work neither (obviously).
    ...help?

    Try this:
    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • Itunes will not recognise ipod nano video in itunes 9.0.2.25

Hi, running windows 7 64 bit and itunes 9.0.2.25. works well with old ipod and ancient shuffle but new ipod video generates 'can detect but not identify ipod'. On an XP machine the ipod works fine with the latest version of itunes.
I've tried the five steps, I've tried staring up with all services disabled and if I do that I can get the ipod detected in windows just fine. Soon as I start itunes services it disappears from windows and creates error as above.
Please any help welcome as otherwise I've bought my wife an engraved bit of metal and plastic for her birthday!

    Ta Charlie!
Okay ... you don't have a p55 chipset, so that rules out one possible hardware/BIOS issue. You don't appear to have the nVidia ECHI USB chipset, so I believe that rules out the trouble with Windows 7 with 4-GB-or-more-RAM not working well with USB drives or devices. (There's a hotfix available from Microsoft for that, but it wouldn't be relevant in this case.)
So I'm thinking it might be a problem with the Apple ipod driver. (The older iPods won't be using it, which would explain the discrepancy between the old and new ipods when it comes to recognition.)
Plug the nano in. Now in your Start menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage". Click "Device Manager".
Expand "USB devices". Can you see an entry in there for the Apple iPod driver? If so, right click on that and select "Uninstall". Click OK. (The uninstall may take a while, leave it to its own devices for a while.)
After the driver uninstalls, unplug the nano. (Wait until it has finished saying OK to disconnect on the nano screen, if nanos do that nowadays ... I'm testing this procedure using an older Classic.)
Now plug the nano back in. This should reinstall the driver.
Do you get proper recognition now?

    Yes that is correct
Okay. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

  • Windows XP Media Center Edition does not suport ipod nano...need programs

I was just informed by Apple Service that Windows XP Media Center does not support ipod nano, but that there are online programs available that would allow me to use my ipod with Windows XP Media Center. Does anyone know of these porgrams?? If so, could you recommend a website? Thanks!

was just informed by Apple Service that Windows XP Media Center does not support ipod nano
    Correct. Sort of.
Windows Media Center is not a computer. Just as Mac OS is not a computer. It is a operating system. (a version of Windows XP).
You have a PC with Windows XP Media Center.
You cannot use Windows Media Center OS to load the iPod.
You need to load iTunes to manage the iPod.
And yes, you can use the iPod Nano on Windows XP Media Center.

  • PC will not recognise Ipod-have tried everything!

I have brand new 4gp ipod mini. Uploaded software-when it said to connect ipod I did. when it got to the screen on the uploding wizard thingie that asked about formatting the ipod the "next" button was not highlighted, so with no other option, I ticked the "tick here if you want to install software without ipod connected" and carried on.
PC will not recognise ipod as either a piece of hardware or in itunes.
It is connect via a USB 2 port which is on a USB 2 card. The ipod does charge so that bit is working. The PC is about 4 years old and has Windows XP.
When i plug into an old USB 1 port the PC recongises the ipod, but says the port cannot support it (assume as it is too slow)
I have tried the following things
    1. remove all ipod/itunes software and restore-using both the software downloads from apple site as well as the software which came with ipod
    2. resetting it
    3. putting it in disco format when plugged into PC.
Plse can someone tell me what I shoudl try next? I have looked through all the discussion threads and apple site and cannto see anything that seeems to fit this problem. I am assuming it is related to the USB.....but could be very wrong!
    thanks
    Chantal

    Hi,
I have EXACTLY the same problem, my computer is even the same age as yours! I re-installed etc etc, I downloaded XP service pack 2, I have a 4GB ipod mini, I reset it and reset it again, I phoned Apple support, not a lot of help considering they told me to doexactly what I had been doing already, told me to try on another computer and like you I don't have any other to try on, I tried other devices in the USB 2 port (also a PCI card like yours) and they work fine, and the ipod charges. I went back to the Apple store to swap it for another one and the guy there said that it sounds as though my computer is only recognising the ipod as a external hard drive instead of a music player. When I plug it in I get a little bubble saying found new hardware mass storage device, and then anopther bubble says there was a problem installing hardware and the device may not work corretly (which clearly it doesn't!). So he told me to find smeone who is really good with windows (where....?) to sort out my computer so that it recognises it as an ipod and not an external hard drive, aparently there is a way to do this. I do have someone coming to check it oput tonight, if they can solve the problem then I will let you know how they do it!
Sorry can't be any more help but I suppose it's good to know there's someone else in the same situation!!!!

Try restarting your device. If that doesn't work, take it to an Apple store. If it is less than a year old and just stopped working, they will replace it for free (be sure to back it up to iTunes first). If you dropped it, you will have to pay because Apple will not replace a device due to "Human Error." If it is more than a year old, you will either have to pay to get it fixed, or have to pay to get it replaced.

  • I have an existing iPod account and now have a new nano but my existing account will not recognise the nano. How can I get this to recognise my new device?

I have an existing account with an iPod classic device. I now have a new nano and want to add this as a secondary device. However when I connect this my account will not recognise the new device. How do I resolve this?

I have 4 iPods all utilizing iTunes on the same computer.  If you open iTunes and THEN connect the new nano, it should automatically recognize it.  Does it give you an error message?

  • Itunes will not read Ipod Nano...

I just got an Ipod Nano for my Windows XP Dell Inspiron 8500. Installed the latest version of Itunes 5... and any 'latest' updated for Ipod software. (uninstalled/reinstalled SEVERAL times)
Everytime I open ITunes, I get a message saying:
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." ...
SO I did that .. didnt work.. then I went to the Apple site and followed step by step instructions to possibly correct this problem... I followed ALL instructions and I still get the error message. My computer , windows explorer, detects the ipod fine.. but Itunes just cant read it... any ideas or help on this one?? Im about to pull my hair out.
    thanks!

my advice is to uninstall EVERYTHING you downloaded, this includes iTunes 5 as well as anything else (eg iPod Updater), reboot as prompted to a clean state. Then install just the software that came with your nano on the CD. There's software on the CD that cannot be downloaded. Provided this works, and iTunes 4.9 can recognise the nano, THEN you can install iTunes 5.0 and whatever else you want.
