I Tunes on new computer

I recently bought a new computer after the hard drive crashed on my old one. I lost everything including my music library and my I-Tunes download.
I downloaded I-Tunes on my new computer, but when I synch my I_pod it tells me that my I-Pod is already logged into a different computer and I can't be logged in to both. What should I do???

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Unable to transfer i=tunes to new computer

I have tried to transfer my i-tunes library to my new computer. I have been ollowing the instructions on the I-Tunes site, which tells me to connect the i-pod to the new computer and to clickon the i-pod device and then drag the i-tunes folder to the desk-top. However no -iTunes folder can be seen, even though all the tunes are on the -i-pod and can be played. The olnly folders that show are Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Recordings and a doc entitled -  .metadata_never_index.
    Where is the i-tuned folder?
I do not know if iot related to the problem, but the od computer never allow me to eject the i=pod and always tells me it "cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application"  even though no other applications are running - other than I-tunes

Thank you, but I have already used this guidance. That is what I was explaining. When I click on my device, the contents of my i-pod do not includde an i-tunes folder - only Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Recordings and a file extension .metadata_never_index. The guidance note you have directed me to does not say what to do when there is no I Tunes folder appearing, which is why I posed my question in the first place. Sorry, but no further forward

  • Transfer tunes to new computer

I have a new computer and I need to transfer my tunes. How can I do this?
Using Windows XP and itunes for windows
    imac G4

Theres afew ways depending on what you have at hand. You can follow tis link for transfering using your iPOd http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
You can use an external harddrive to copy the whole "My Music" folder in windows and then connect the external to the new PC and copy everything inside the "My Mucis" to the new "My Music" folder on the new PC.
You can burn "Data CDs/DVDs" of the my music folder to transfer them over (And in the process end up with backups on CD)
You can transfer over a wireless home network but not really recommended cuz wireless signals can be interferred with much like cell phones are

  • Moved i-tunes to new computer, won't sync purchased songs?

I have recently moved my i-tunes library over to a new computer. When I go to update mt i-pod now it doesn't update any purchased music, even though these ar showing in my music library.
Someone please help as some of my most recent and favourite albumns won't update.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, or play back one of the purchased songs on your computer; in either case, provide the username and password associated with your iTunes Store account. This needs to be done before any purchased music can be synced from that computer to the iPod.

  • Copying I tunes to new computer

    Hi there<
Please can you help me? I have bought a new computer and want to transfer my itunes folder to my new computer. How do I go about copying this?
    Thanks Nathan

    Hi there
I've just followed the instructions on Itunes Help to copy my library etc across to my new computer, but it doesn't seem to have worked and now I don't have any music or playlists on my ipod, and no music or play lists in the library. Although I do seem to have some music copied across to 'my music' on the main computer.
My old computer seems to have my music listed but I can't sync them on to my ipod as now it's stating that I have used up most of my memory on 'other'. i.e. not audio.
I seem to be in a right mess! Does anyone know what to do, or an official number/email I can contact as I seem to be going round in circles on the itunes help pages. Thanks!

  • Syncing ALL of my tunes on new computer - I am old & need step by step in plain english - pls help

Hi:   Having read about 14 articles and tips I am at a loss. I would like to sync my itunes to my new computer. It keeps saying sync "purchased" songs. But, I would like ALL of my songs...not just the ones I bought from itunes/istore...I want to include the hundreds of songs from the CD's I have bought over the years.
I can't seem to follow the instructions give, get confused. Please help.
    Thank you!

I don't want to make assumptions, so I'll start from scratch.
The first set of files will be the ones you've purchased through the iTunes Store - and it appears that you're having no problem getting those.
The second set of files may be from previous iTunes libraries. If you already use iTunes or have an iPod, simply drop the files on iTunes/Music when you open the program. iTunes will automatically organize the files when you drop them in. If you've already imported CDs into iTunes, those files will automatically appear on the iTunes playlist.
The third set of files are CDs and such. If you're starting from scratch importing CDs, you'll have to do it once CD at a time. Put the CD in your computer, and iTunes should automatically ask you if you want to import the music. Instructions in Windows may be useful:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/how-to-import-cd-tracks-to-it unes/
When you're done importing a CD track, you'll hear a chime telling you you're done. If you have more specific questions, there are quite a few online tutorials.

  • Restoring i-tunes on new computer does not work

    Dear All,
I had to re-install my computer according to Microsoft advice and at the same time I changed from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Here is what I did with my music on itunes:
Before doing anything on the Vista System I followed the instructions given here for backing up itunes library on an external hard disk, i. e.
    1. I asked i-tunes to move the music into one folder and
    2. chose to organize the library.
After closing i-tunes I copied the folder i-tunes I copied the i-tunes folder to the external hard disk.
Then I installed Windows 7 after formatting the system's hard disk. In contrary to the prior system setup I partitioned the hard disk and moved the music folder like other folders of my account to the second partition to separate my data from system and programs. The move of the music folder was done by right-clicking and changing the "path" information to the new destination on harddisk d:.
Thereafter I downloaded and installed i-tunes again.
After installation I copied the i-tunes folder from the external hard drive into the i-tunes folder created by the new installation of i-tunes confirming that the folders should be integrated and any files be replaced by the files from the external hard disk.
Now starting i-tunes again, it looked like before stating 349 albums and 46 GB equals 14,+ days of music. BUT:
Whichever title I click i-tunes says: the title ... could not be used because the original could not be found. Do you want to search it now?
(Translation from German, English wording may slightly vary)
I cannot do this for 5000 titles, nor can I find them all because I don't really understand the structure of the i-tunes folders. I expected the folders to be like the CDs I imported, but they are somewhat different.
Some history to the music import: I started to import the CDs on i-tunes 7, continued on 8 and finally upgraded to 9. Under i-tunes version 9 the story above starts.
Some additional Info: The computer (hardware) is the same, it got 1GB memory more and it got another system name (pmn10 instead pmn08 before). Also I shortened my account name. - Just for info, it may or may not be of importance.
What do I have to do in order to make i-tunes work. It is impossible to get my music here as my complete CD collection is in Germany well stored while i am seconded to Abu Dhabi. Please help me to rescue my music!
Other question: can't I restore the music by simply synchronizing the I-pod to i-tunes? I mean: empty library on the computer, connecting Ipod and getting the stuff from there?
    Additional problems:
    1. The same applies to some media bought from the i-tunes store. it also is not found. In any case, this stuff I have backed up on a DVD according to the description given under support.
    2. I forgot to deactivate the old system under i-tunes. What is to be done in order to delete the not any more existent system in i-tunes store records?
Looking forward to a problem solving enlightment I remain with
    best regards from Abu Dhabi
    Philippus
PS: What came afterwards to my mind what may be important to know:
Vista System was 32 bit, windows 7 now is 64 bit.

I have kind of like the same problem as you do. I don't have a solution to your problem, but I can answer one of your questions: it is not possible to restore the music in your library by emptying your library and then connecting your ipod. In fact, this will immediately delete all the music on your ipod as well if automatic synchronisation is on. So whatever you try, don't try that!
If there's someone who does have the answer to this question, I hope that he or she can answer this similar question as well:
I have always had two OS's installed on my computer, XP and Vista. At first I only used XP, so I had iTunes installed there. Now I've switched to Vista (and I won't be using XP for iTunes anymore) and installed iTunes there too. However, the drive letters in Vista are different than they were in XP. For different reasons it's not really practical for me to change them. I managed to get my library working in Vista so I could keep using my ipod in Vista without having to add all the music again. I can't use iTunes to play music however now, because none of my files can be found. Even worse is that I can't create new playlists because of this.
When I click on a song that cannot be found I get asked if I want to search for this particular song. Is it possible to do this for entire albums? Or does anyone know another solution to get iTunes to find my songs?
    Would be much appreciated!

  • Never updated from Ios4 and my computer crapped out how do I update after downloading I tunes on new computer?

It says I will lose my purchased things.

    Hi Casey!
Welcome to the Apple iPad discussion forums!
If you let iTunes backup your iPad just prior to the update, you could reconnect your iPad, stop it from syncing and doing a new backup by clicking on the small "x" at the right in the center iTunes display box, to cancel the sync and backup and try a restore from your last, previous backup.
