I Tunes U - Possible to edit RSS feed produced by podcast producer?

Hi people. Two questions
I have a self hosted i tunes u on mac server. Is it possible to edit rss feeds once they have been published by podcast producer? eg remove particular tracks from a particular feed or rename as track for instance?
Also when i tunes u is actually accessed through the interface no track time information is visible for any of of the podcasts? is this a common problem? and does anyone know how to solve it?
Thanks
Nick

Your 'tunes:summary' in the top section of the feed has several instances of the string
<br/>
You should remove these. You cannot have < or > within a tag and the code won't do either.
The URL in the 'itunes:image' tag includes an aompersand ('&') and this can cause trouble. You should change it to the wrod 'and' in the filename and in the feed (or call it something simpler, no-one sees the filename).
Your 'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:subtitle' tags for the episode have various codes in them - all starting &# something - iTunes will display these codes, not render them, and you should not use them. These tags should contain plain text, no html. This won't render the feed unreadable the way the other errors do, but it looks messy.

when i try submitting my RSS feed for a podcast itunes says we are experiencing technical difficulties...... why is this and when will it be fixed?

Well, I can't see any problem with the feed, and the episode media file is correctly referenced and plays. Incidentally you do have a 'copyright' tag - it says 'Wippenberg'.
When a podcast feed is rejected, corrected and resubmitted there is a minor bug in the Store which causes you to be told that the podcast has already been submitted (which is true but irrelevant - it's really meant to prevent duplicates). To get round this you need to make a small change to the title - for example you could add a hyphen and space before 'Podcast'. You can always change it back once it's been accepted.
The other issue might be the content. The reason given for rejection tends to be technical issues, whatever the actual reason is. I haven't listened to your podcast, so I can't comment directly. Possible reasons for rejection are unacceptable content, sexual content or strong language when the 'explicit' tag is not said to 'yes', and copyright infringement: a lot of people fall over this one by including 'mixes' or indeed full plays of commercially issued recordings without having written permission from the copyright owners or alternatively a valid Podcast Licence (not available in all countries, possibly only the USA). I have no idea whether this might be an issue with yours.

I have found my XML page and attempted to insert some lines using TextEdit but this just appears to corrupt my feed.
If the file you're editing has an ".html" extension, then this from TextEdit's +Help viewer+ may be relevant:
If you want to work with an existing HTML file, choose File > Open and select the file you want. Be sure to select “Ignore rich text commands.” When you save the file, it remains a “.html” file.
...And there are other places where important selections are made for HTML files:
In TextEdit's Save dialogue, select "HTML" from the +File Format+ menu.
    In TextEdit's +Preferences > New Document+ tab, select +"Plain text"+.
In TextEdit's +Preferences > Open and Save+ tab, select +"Ignore rich text commands in HTML files"+.
XML is not HTML your last post is irrelevant you should know what you're talking about before providing recommendations.
Is this a late April Fools joke?
    funky_ben,
You do not add XML data into an html file it should be inserted into an XML file look over the iTunes tech spec page provided unfortunately reading comprehension is required.

  • Editing RSS Feed

Thanks to SSukotto, I'm a lot closer to solving a very nagging problem.
One question remains: How do I access my RSS feed for editing my XML? There are ways to look at the code, I just can't edit.
I use Libsyn for hosting the podcast and have never had to edit the code using the Libsyn interface. If I can edit two lines, I'm good to go!
    Ssukotto is awesome!

thanks -- probably the best place to ask this question is the Libsyn forums. Lots of helpful people there:

  • Possible to Embed RSS Feed in Keynote?

  • Help: Editing RSS Feed Button for Feedburner URL

I have an RSS feed on my iWeb site - just the standard RSS item from the iWeb menu, but I'd like to change the URL to the feed to a Feedburner URL.
Is there any way of doing this without having a custom button? I can't see any way using inspector or anything...
    TIA

I think I'll just create a custom button with the RSS link on it, containing the link to the Feedburner feed.
After looking around a bunch, I'm not sure you can do this as an iWeb setting...

  • RSS Feed to iTunes podcast

My client uses iTunes to post their latest podcasts. Is it
possible to have a RSS feed on their website that shows their

I should note, the web address is amazeable.com
The podcast was created using garageband and sent to iweb through the "share" option.

  • How Can I delete an RSS Feed in iTunes/podcasts?

I have an old rss feed that I want deleted in itunes. I have created a new rss feed and it's up and working great. I want the old one deleted.
I have used "Report a Concern" and asked itunes to delete the old feed, but nothing has happened. so I went to the files and renamed them all and re-pinged the page so itunes would realize that the feed no longer works, but that hasn't work either. I've searched the forum but can't seem to find out how to have itunes delete the old podcast feed.
    Any ideas?
I realize that I should have done this a different way, but I didn't know that then... I do now.

Just to confirm that you originally had a podcast accepted in the iTunes Store, and now you have had a second version accepted with a different Store URL? The procedure you have followed is the correct one, though I don't know how long it's likely to take the Store staff to get round to removing it. Just remove the original feed from the server: it will still show in the Store, which has cached it, but obviously subscribing won't work, and the absence of the feed may encourage the Store staff to remove the Store page.

  • We have a new Wordpress site, how do I add a description and artwork to the RSS feed of the podcast?

    Hello:
I am surprised I could not find this on a search of Google or Apple Support.
Our church has a new website created with Wordpress.  We have all of the functionality ready to go in order to have the RSS feed work with the itunes store.
However, when we submit the feed to iTunes, it says that we need to add a graphic, as well as a short and a long description.  I believe this used to be a part of the iTunes website submission process, however it apparently now needs to be a part of the feed itself, if I am understanding correctly.
So my question is where can I find instructions on how to add this in Wordpress?
Just so you understand, I am not in charge of the site itself... I am basically doing some research on my own to help out our programmer.  I am just in charge of uploading the weekly audio.
If anyone could guide me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated.
    Randy

Wordpress can construct a proper podcast feed, including the 'itunes:image, 'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:subtitle' tags; there will be places to enter this data but I'm afraid I can'd advise on WordPress. It does seem to have a steep learning curve as we see more problems with Wordpress podcasts than any other creation method.
Unless someone who happens to have got a WordPress podcast working happens to see your question and offer information I can only suggest that you look for a Wordpress forum or some Help on it.
Although it won't help you with Wordpress you might like to look at this page about podcasting basics: it includes a sample basic feed so that you can at least see what one should look like:

  • Rss feed of the podcast directory?

    Hey all,
Does anyone know if Apple publishes RSS feeds of the iTunes Store's Podcast directory? I would love to be able to use an rss feed based on keyword search or popularity and be able to write a small application where my site visitors can find relevant podcasts from iTunes and then click to subscribe.
    Thanks!

hey there fred. i am actually wondering the same thing you are, i got my rss feed from libsyn and submitted that into iTunes and my show is also in the iTunes Directory. well our show has been going so great that we are actually making our own website which will have the capabilitles to download our show driectly from our site. but i dont want our shows to stop being updated in the iTunes directory. we are going to make our own rss feed and use that i guess. but i dont want to have my show deleted from the directory for having 2 of the exact same thing.
but yeah. if you hear anything about what to do then let me know too. my email is [email protected] and our show (if you wanna know is called Grizzled Gamers) its all about xbox and stuff. we have taken off in teh past month. our site is www.grizzledgamers.moonfruit.com (for now) and its soon to be www.grizzledgamers.com which will be cool. ill check your show out you check mine out? ill mention you show if you like and you can mention me...

  • Problems with the RSS feed for my podcast

Hi, am very new to this so apologies if this requires a simple solution.
I was told that to find the RSS for my podcast, I hover my cursor over the subscribe button and this will be it. When I do this I get:
    itpc://www.jilt.org.uk/publichtml/publichtml/Podcast/rss.xml
I have tried this with itunes and it has been rejected as not working.
Other information that might be useful for anyone trying to help is that my url is www.jilt.org.uk.
I have entered "jilt" as the sitename on Iweb but this doesn't seem to come up anywhere.
Am very confused by it all and would hugely appreciate any advice.

You seem to be uploading to a server that uses a public_html folder as the root folder.
Inside this you have a copy of the public_html folder and, inside this is a copy of your website.
You also appear to have your files uploaded to the public_html folder because your podcast is available here....
    http://www.jilt.org.uk/Podcast/Podcast.html
So that you don't break the RSS feed what you need to do is this:
Publish the site to a local folder and you should get an index.html file and a folder named "jilt".
Upload these to the top level public_html folder. Now open the site in the browser and hover over the "Subscribe" button to get the feed's URL.

  • Switching RSS feed for my podcast

Hi. I may need to change the feed for my podcast. I've read the tech speks about adding the tag to indicate the location of the new feed, but I'm using FeedBurner and have no idea how to do that inside feedburner.
Does anyone know how to add the tags to tell iTunes of the location of the new URL if you're using feedburner.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is something you would have to ask Feedburner. As you have no direct access to the feed I suspect that you may find some difficulty - after all, Feedburner have no interest in helping you leave them.

  • Our RSS Feeds for our Podcasts have not updated in iTunes since October

We have three Podcasts established with iTunes. All three stopped showing updates on the iTunes website at the end of October in spite of the fact that we update them weekly. I have run them through a feed validator and everything appears to be fine.

There is no obvious reason why this should be happening. The November episodes show OK when subscibing and the feeds look OK. Sometimes the Store does seem to get stuck and not update for some time, and I'm afraid that that may be what has happened here. It usually sorts itself out eventually, but it's very frustrating.
You could try emailing Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to try to do something about it, but to be honest I rather doubt you'll get a helpful answer.

  • RSS feed into newsletter.  Is it possible?

Hello I need an expert's opinion please.
Is it possible to incorporate RSS feed into a newsletter?  Let's say that a client has an RSS feed. Is it possible to add it in a  custom-made newsletter campaign like mailchimp or  any other campaign service? What do I need? Should the client provide me with something like an embedding code? Have you (experts) done anything similar?
    Thank you in advance.
Please note that the newsletter campaign is custom made but it runs perfectly with mailchimp but i haven't add any rss feed as yet.

Have a look at this Mail Chimp tutorial
