I tunes Upgrade- download time
I have tried three times to download the new itunes upgrade.
After waiting for 1-2 hours, the screen says 45- 65 more hours needed.
What is going on? I don't mind a little time, but this is ridiculous.
I am using DSL.
Thank you. I got it. It took a great deal. What I did was exit Safari. Download it in Firefox.
Still, at the middle of the download, the downloading practically stopped, twice. I was down to 1.8 kbs. /second. There must be something in the program. At that point, my computer said it would be 8 hours. Also, on the I tunes page it said to turn down the pop up blocker. I turned it off.
Well, after two hours on Firefox, I finally got it. I was using DSL, with an older modem. Acatel, 1000 ADSL.

I'm glad I was able to help. I kind of wish mine hadn't worked because I ended up being one of the "lucky" individuals where my phone didn't restore from the backup and I lost all of my contacts, calendar appts, notes, etc. It took me an extra 2 hrs last night to rebuild the next month worth of appts and try to rebuild my contact list from my yahoo contacts. Oh well. I will be getting an android at my next upgrade. I'm tired of all of the BS that comes with owning an iPhone.

Before beginning the download, temporarily disable your antivirus, anti-adware, anti-spyware, and any other anti-whatever that is required with that swiss cheese for security OS your computer is running.

The "Software Update" feature is not available in my Ipod 2nd Generation unit while the upgrade option in iTunes keeps on hanging while downloading the upgrade iOS (time out error). So, please tell me how I can upgrade the iOS.
The Settings>General>Software Update comes with iOS 5. The 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1
Try disabling the computer's security software during the download and update. -
I can't play i-tunes downloaded movies. I've tried opening them with Windows Media Player, i-tunes, and quick time. Nothing works.
If after you download the movie, you navigate away and do something else with your Apple TV the content you have downloaded will be overwritten and you'll need to download it again. It's a pain in the neck for many who have slow downloads but it's something that comes with using volatile memory rather than a hard drive for storage.
Perhaps you're not doing this, but I thought it worth mentioning. -
Recently got a new iPod Touch 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod after multiple attempts, despite all songs showing properly on the Mac and multiple syncs occurring after all songs were properly reflected on the Mac. I updated iTunes Match from the iTunes Store menu as well pre-sync.
I should mention that I had previously had the library on a Dell (which is still running) and shared it on my home network. While all iTunes purchases now show in the Dell, the Mac is the device I use for all syncs.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the iCloud physical sync failure - some songs were legacy, some were purchased via the PC, some on the old iPod.
The Mac shows all the songs correctly and none show iCloud status -all have been downloaded, but the downloaded songs that were previously showing up as iCloud based aren't syncing to the iPod.
Is there any way to force all music being seen by my iPod as iCloud to download to so I can listen to them offline? Is there a way to force the sync from iTunes?The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts. Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone. -
Why am I seeing the software download time estimated at 11 hours?

I'm restoring data in my 4S and the Apple server is pushing iOS 8.2 for the upgrade. When I tried to download the upgrade to my MacBook, the download was estimated to take 6 hrs. This didn't seem right, even though I'm downloading from the Airport Extreme. I proceeded regardless, knowing this is generally an estimate and my normal experience has been the estimated download time revises to less time as the download progresses.
This time it nearly took the 6 hours then promptly crashed.
Off to my iMac (currently running 10.9.5) and attempted to download the upgrade on the newer machine. Now the estimated time is 11 hours. Should I have "hard wired" directly from the AirPort Extreme with a LAN cable, or is something choking the download speed at my end?
Just wondering and am awaiting to hear from the collected wisdom of the readers for advice.

iOS updates require a persistent Internet connection, and the time it takes to download the update will vary according to the size of the update and your Internet speed. You can use your device normally while downloading the iOS update, and iOS will notify you when you can install the update. To improve the speed of the download, avoid downloading other content.
If you get a message that "an error occurred downloading iOS," try again later. If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.

I have been downloading movies etc form I tunes for some time, 30 - 40 Mins. Today i have been trying to downlaod
a move from i Tunes and now it says 90 hours plus (4 days) for one movie ???????
Called ISP , speed test good 50 mg down 3.5 mg up, router computer all Ok .
at this time it points to I tunes downloads is any one else haveing this problem.

Intermittant extremely slow download time ( 1Mbps) in recent 1-2 months
Hello. Ever since I 'upgraded' to the Comcast router with integrated switch and Wi-Fi (perhaps a year ago?), I have seen higher speeds, but also more frequent problems. I have not complained because the issues were intermittent and not too frequent. This past month or two, the issues have become intolerable. I have seen dropped connection issues on Windows devices, Apple devices, my Samsung Smart TV (streaming NetFlix, for example), and my Amazon Echo. Almost everything is wi-fi. I have repeatedly tried <every> suggestion I could find on Comcast's web site, as well as many others. Rebooting everything, resetting the router, anti-virus scan, network scan, etc. Today, I have disconnected everything except one Windows laptop (over Wi-Fi), rebooted the router, and rebooted the laptop. The problem persists. Web browsing, file downloading, sending/receiving email are all virtually unusable. Speedtest.net often reports good ping times (~10ms), bad download time (~0.06Mbps), and good upload time (10-11Mbps). Today I see 4ms, 0.22Mbps, and 0.24Mbps. What can I do to determine if it is a problem with the router, or something else? Thanks for any help.
Today, I have reset the router to factory default, and only changed the admin password, wi-fi password and SSID. Only my Windows laptop, iPhone, and iPad are on the network now. The problem persists. Internet access is almost useless, and speedtest.net fails to complete the download test. tracert to comcast.net is repeatedly clean, while tracert to other networks looks to me like there is a problem between Comcast and other ISPs. Does this mean I can stop mucking with my own stuff? You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar. (Cmd on Mac)
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to tunn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.
You can also open the menu bar temporarily by pressing Alt (Windows, not sure of the Mac equivalent).
To roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.
To protect against the unexpected in future backup your iTunes library (and other personal data).

Will a new router improve download times?
I am new to apple tv and was disappointed when the first movie I rented told it would take 5 hours to download. After visting this forum, it sounds like that is pretty standard. I am fairly certain I have the fastest internet service my provider offers (I will check) though. However, are there other things I can do like upgrade my router? My wireless router is old probably at least 7 years old. Would a new router have any significant impact on download times? Also, what type of impact would connecting Apple TV via a wired connection have?

EthanA new router may help internal communications, it may even help with Internet speeds (but in most cases if it does help with Internet speeds, it would likely mean you could have achieved better speeds by adjusting settings on your older router)
Before considering a new router, there are a few things you could do to try to improve the current situation like changing location or channels or settings.
I certainly don't see any merit in the advice to try google tv, if you have download issues, you'll have them with other devices too.

My ATV has always downloaded nearly instantaneously, even HD movies...5 minutes MAX from order to watch.
In August, I upgraded my internet to Comcast business class, I believe it's at 11mbps, but I consistently test out (www.whatismyip.com) around 10mbps (but as high as 20). My ATV has no wireless network connection. Download times decreased even beyond what I'd previously been experiencing.
Now, with no changes internally to my network, TV shows that previously were immediately available are now taking 20+ minutes to download...movies...forget about spontaneous movie watching, we're now looking at a few hours to make popcorn.
I have to say, too, that increased download times are not limited to my ATV; my MBP also experiences long delays.
I contacted Apple, thinking it might be an issue with the recent firmware upgrade to ATV, but that wouldn't explain the slower MBP. I just wonder if anyone might have suggestions...might be able to point me in the right direction to troubleshoot.

Message was edited by: Earth_MotherGiven what you say about experiencing slow download times for all your devices I'd be contacting your ISP. It isn't unknown for ISP's to filter traffic at certain times of the day, indeed it seems to be becoming more common with certain ISP's.

If you're buying HD movies, you can change the setting in the Store preferences in iTunes to prefer 720p. Or you can just buy SD versions.

Is there a way to right click a text link to add it to bookmarks?
I can't find an add-on that lets me do this either. If I highlight a text link, like the shared link on a youtube video, there is no option to bookmark that link directly. Why is it not possible to do this?
