Lately all i-tunes upgrades have crashed on Windows 7 and disabled the older version. It usually takes weeks for Apple to fix the problem. Is there a simple way around this issue, short of not upgrading till months after the new release?

  • How can I "un-do" the newest I-Tunes upgrade?

How can I "un-do" the newest I-Tunes upgrade?

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar. (Cmd on Mac)
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar.
Ctrl-/ to tunn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the previous search behaviour.
You can also open the menu bar temporarily by pressing Alt (Windows, not sure of the Mac equivalent).
To roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.
To protect against the unexpected in future backup your iTunes library (and other personal data).

  • Unrecognized DVD/CD drive after I-tunes upgrade to ver 7.6.2.9

I have a problem since I upgraded I-tunes to latest version 7.6.2.9. My PC no longer recognizes my DVD/CD Rom. I have deleted my Upper and Lower filters in the registry, then reboot my CD-Rom is back. I open I-tunes and the program does not see my CD drive. I reinstall i-tunes my CD-Rom disappears. Can anyone HELP ?

From what I understand, the problem is that iTunes is writing a registry entry that doesn't belong in Windows (the UpperFilters/LowerFilters entries). Once you delete these you should only have to deal with the missing drive with iTunes. WMP can still see it as a rule so any CD's you want to rip can be done that way to .wav, .mp3 or the .wma formats. If you want to use iTunes for listening to CD the dump your dell for a Mac. Unfortunately neither Apple nor Microsoft want to give on this issue which has existed since iTunes 7.5 based on personal experience.

  • I-Tunes upgrade failed and has given me errors.

Yesterday I attempted to upgrade I-tunes when prompted however the upgrade was unsuccessful and has caused errors.  Today when I booted up my computer I got runtime errors and was unable to open I-tunes as a .dll file was missing.  The error message recommended downloading i-tunes again so a uninstalled I-Tunes and then tried to download again but I get this message.  "Service "Apple Mobile Device" (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"  If I ignore the message it just keeps coming back to I have to Abort.  I now have no I-tunes.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, klittee.
In some cases it's necessary to remove all traces of iTunes software. This has to be performed in a very specific fashion. The following Knowledge Base article outlines those steps:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
If the issue persists, this article provides some additional steps to try:

  • Partial? Homesharing Problem after I-tunes upgrade!

After upgrading i-tunes to the latest version today 19/12/12 I find that some of my purchased TV programs will not open on my ipad. E.g. all of season 4 of Castle will open and play, but the season 3 & 5 icons show in the TV programs screen, but will not open to show the various episodes. I can watch all episodes in i-tunes on my PC and can stream them all to my ipad using the useful Air Video Server app. It is disappointing to note that a free app such as Air Video Server can stream these programs perfectly but, although I have legally purchased all these episodes from the i-tunes store, I cannot use I-tunes to stream them .This is poor! Any thoughts. I have checked the location of the files on my c drive and they are all in the I-tunes media folder. I cannot for the life of me figure out the reason for this anomoly. Any thoughts?

  • I tunes Upgrade- download time

I have tried three times to download the new itunes upgrade.
After waiting for 1-2 hours, the screen says 45- 65 more hours needed.
What is going on? I don't mind a little time, but this is ridiculous.
    I am using DSL.

Thank you. I got it. It took a great deal. What I did was exit Safari. Download it in Firefox.
Still, at the middle of the download, the downloading practically stopped, twice. I was down to 1.8 kbs. /second. There must be something in the program. At that point, my computer said it would be 8 hours. Also, on the I tunes page it said to turn down the pop up blocker. I turned it off.
Well, after two hours on Firefox, I finally got it. I was using DSL, with an older modem. Acatel, 1000 ADSL.
    Thank you.

  • Sound problems with i Tunes upgrade

I recently upgraded to 7.1 and on iTune playback the sound quality is bitty and very frustrating, not experienced on the older setup. Playback on iPod is still OK. I also had an iPod download problem where I could not sync to new iTunes but it 'seems' ok now after restarting my PC. seems this update has stirred a few users!

    bscottie,
What Mulatu did was most likly these 3 steps...
    1) Went to the PC makers site, manually looked up a list of updates for his model, and (If listed) updated his sound card/drivers.
    2) In Windows went to control panel>Quicktime>Audio tab checked "Safemode" hit ok and then rebooted the PC for the settings to take.
    3) Tried the steps at this apple.com support page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610

  • My songs are missing , looks like a I tunes upgrade

My Songs are missing, I have a grey screen that has just an apple picture and can go to the store. I did click do not download when the upgrade box appeared.

    Reboot, repair/reinstall iTunes.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I tune page since mountain lion upgrade

Since upgrading to OSX 10.8.2 (mountain lion) i am having difficutly manually syncing my i phone in i tunes. The i tune page will not always show the option of opening my i phone at top rh corner of page (next to i tune store) even if i power down and restart the reopened page will not always show option?
This problem has occured since the latest i tune upgrade, i never had a problem before with previous software/i tune page
Can someone please advise a way to overcome this anoying problem.
    Thank you and regards

I have a home Optimum wifi network with Boost connecting to an Airport, with a second Airport extending, and an Airport Express extending. I have a MacBook Pro, last year's model, two iMacs, a year old each, and an older iMac. (If necessary I can get all the models etc, but I just want to express the problem). The two new iMacs and MBP are running Mountain Lion. The older Lion.
Since upgrading to ML my connection speed both over the wifi and directly connecting to the router has dropped from 30-50 down and 5 up to between 1-4 down and 4 up. I have had the cable folks here to test lines. We've swapped out the modem with a new one. I bought a new netgear N600. Everything led to the same result.
Here's the odd part. When restarting the modem and plugging it directly into the powerbook, initial tests show 30-50 up and 5 down. But once you reconnect to wifi, lose speed, the re-connect directly to the modem the slowness persists directly connected to the modem.
So I start suspecting Mountain Lion. BUT the older iMac cannot be upgraded to Mountain and is still running Lion and has the same issue. The equipment is in the same place it's always been. We've added no electronics that would be interfering with signals.
Everyone is stumped and looking suspicously at the computer and OS. Please help. I'm beginning to hear the bing bong bing bong of dial up in my head.

  • Stuck in upgrade and wont let go

My I-tunes account always prompts me to upgrade to 7.2 every time I try to purchase a song from my money on account. I try to run the upgrade and I get a warning that I need a service pack 2 from windows to sucessfully load the upgrade. I have ran a windows upgrade and made sure my windows xp had all the upgrades and patches available, still no luck, I am stuck in i-tunes upgrade ****, what do I do now. I keep going in circles with no luck.
Thanks in advance for your help.

WARNING: This will remove all traces of Firefox. That means no bookmarks, no passwords, nothing.
Well first restart your computer and let it completely boot up, play a solitaire game for a few min. to be sure it doesn't go into a search drive mode or something.
After 5 min. go to Start/Control Panel and open the programs panel to uninstall Firefox.
After that is done go to Start/Run and enter %appdata% this will open the data storage folder for apps you have installed. WARNING:be careful in there.
Find the folder called Firefox and only Firefox, delete it. It might be inside another folder called Mozilla.
If this makes you nervous just rename it to oldFirefox.
Open IE and download Firefox from

If you are asking how to get 3.0 back up try [[Safe Mode]] to recover.

  • Very slow i-tunes 7.1. Should i take an older version? Or something else?

I-tunes upgraded itself to version 7.1
Since the 7 version (i think) my i-tunes is very slow. It takes 10 seconds when i click on a song to get it played. Besides that I installed some new anti-virussoftware (NOD32, Spysweeper). Is it possible that this new version makes your computer slower and would it help to get an older version of i-tunes? I was pretty satisfied with the older versions, but now i am pretty upset. Or is there something else i should do? I think my computer should be able to work this.
    Some spec's:
    P4 / 2.6 ghz
    1 Gb on RAM
200 Gb of files (use it all day long, so its pretty irritating)

Upgrading to Vista gives problems. There is another topic on that subject. Maybe you can find a solution over there. I still have XP and still am wondering what causes the problem. I see that I-tunes takes a lot of memory (up to 200Mb). IS that different in the older versions?
    Thanx again!

  • Can't open i tunes.please help

My i tunes upgraded to the latest version and from that time i can't run them. When i click to i tunes, i have the message error saying that this version of itunes needs a macos x 10.4.3 or later (my macos x is 10.4.1). I uninstall i tunes, and then tried to install itunes 6 from the cd that came with ipod, but i can't install i tunes (it installs only the ipod updater),because i can't check the itunes button.now i don' t have itunes at all!
please can someone answer my question?i've started using mac computer a while ago and i don' t know exactly what to do.

You'll need to go to System Preferences > Software Update and click the Check Now button. You will probably have many updates available, including the OS X v. 10.4.10 Combo Update. Install all of the updates you need, including any available updates for iTunes, then things should start working properly.

  • Downloaded new version of I-Tunes - now can't download to I-Pod PLEASE HELP

Since i installed the I-tunes upgrade, the I-Tunes program shuts itself down and i get a message that "problems were encountered" when i try to download to the i-pod. It seemed to have something to do with Quicktime. So i removed quicktime thinking that i could then download the new version of i-tunes (it sounds ridiculous now i know), but that is not working either.
My question - is there a way to uninstall i-tunes and re-install without mucking things up completely?
    what should i do??!?!??!

Do the steps in the section *General Installation Troubleshooting* in the order listed, from this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Make a backup of your ITL file before starting, I hope it is still OK.
