I-tunes was saving my music to the wrong location.

If I choose the option to have i-tunes organize my media and consolidate my collection, can I delete the files in the original location safely? As I understand it is now copying them to the correct location and I can't afford the space in the area (partition) where it was saving them in error....
And will it now save any new files in the right location?
Thanks in advance for your help!

To answer the second question first, iTunes uses the folder specified in Edit > Preferences > Advanced as the iTunes Media Folder. Any file added (by purchasing from the iTunes Store, ripping from CD, using the conversion process, added as result of the "Copy..." parameter, or by means of the Automatically Add folder) will go there.  So, yes.
And about Consolidate:  it goes thru your library, and any library entry whose track is not already in the designated folder will have a copy placed there.  After it is done, iTunes does not need the other files.

    I have a new PC running windows 8 and when I registered my new account with I Tunes only the recent music that I purchased off I Tunes populated in my music library. The other material that I imported into my library from CD is missing. I am missing several hundred recordings and want to know if it is possible to get them back without having to go back to my old PC and manually make out a missing catalogue of music and re-importing back into my new PCÉ

    Your media is only where you put it.
    Installing iTunes and signing into your iTunes account does not cause media to magically appear.
    Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.
    FYI, there is nothing to import and if you are smart and want to avoid duplicates you will NOT import anything.

  • Hi, my phone was stolen a few days ago and I was waiting for it to come online to track the last known location where it was turned on. Now that my phone has been locked but i cant seem to find the last location it was online. I need the last location

    Hi, my phone was stolen a few days ago and just a few days ago the phone was online and it automatically locked itself since I've put it under lost mode and the thief probably switched off the phone immediately so that I cant locate it. Is it possible for me to have the last known location where he/she turned on the phone so that I can track it down from the last location? Thank you

    Correct.
    The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
    If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
    If locked with a passcode, and running iOS 7.0, then phone cannot be activated or the passcode removed without knowing your Apple iD/Password. It will be nothing but a useless paperweight.
    If not running iOS 7.0, the phone can be forced into recovery mode & restored.

  • Update 27.0 causes downloads to go to the wrong location

    I want downloads to go to my RAMdisk (not surprisingly, R:\), but since the update to v27, all downloads go to C:\Users\Me\Downloads. My Options are set correctly, I've double-checked my Profile location (I:\Firefox\Profiles), and all Bookmarks and Extensions are perfectly fine - it's just the download location that is messed up.
    Is this a universal issue with v27 (unlikely) or has a fix been found (hopefully)?

    "regression" is right. I can see not wanting to download to the root of a system disk, but a logical drive... Unfortunate.
    But your solution is 100% accurate, and I thank you both for your time and speedy replies!
    ** Read the bug report, and this says it all:
    The bug is present on Firefox 27 final.
    Firefox 27 cannot save files to any root directory by default, except for Windows drive root directory.
    '''Firefox 26 and earlier could. Lots of people will find out the hard way about this bug starting today.''' I hope it gets fixed and 27.0.1 gets released as soon as possible with this bug fixed in it.
    Yup [;-)

  • It seems my asset links (mostly images) get placed in the WRONG location after exporting

    Hi There,
    I've been using the test version of Muse for the part 10 days and have really been enjoying it!  I'm about to launch my first site with it.
    But!  In my design mode, all the correct images are on the right page, and then often when I go to the "preview mode" or the "preview page in browser" or publish the website as a test, then it seems like the wrong photos (from other pages on my website) will then be displayed in another photo's spot.
    As if, some bug caused the assets link's to get mixed-up when I export the website to view it live.
    Here is my example.  (NOTE - for both these pages, scroll to the SIDE, not down).
    Here is one page on the website, notice this is the page for the WIRED store, all the images in here should be there
    http://imdefinitelyinnewyorkcityrightnow.businesscatalyst.com/wired-store.html
    Now look at this different page for a different entry, but, some of the images from the WIRED store page (above) are now placed into this entry?????
    http://imdefinitelyinnewyorkcityrightnow.businesscatalyst.com/muddguts.html
    Note, there should be OTHER images in the place where the image that says "WIRED" in blue is, same goes for the bottom half of that first image, in design mode, there is another image there.
    As mentioned, in my "design" mode the photos are all in the correct places, it's only when I get to the preview/export modes where it seems the links to the assets gets mixed up.
    Anybody have any idea about this bug or what I can do to change it?
    Thanks in Advance,

    I am having the same issue.  I have three layered elements as three columns in the body of the page.  When I add the farthest right element it pushes the other left elements to the bottom of the page.  There are aren't any other elements on the page.
    Is this a CSS issue?  I thought about exporting to Dreamweaver and fixing it there but would like to take the easy route first.

  • Why do my photos show the wrong location

    It would be good if I could edit photos to put in the correct location of where the photos were taken

    Did you have Location Services turned on when the photos were taken? If not then this is the most likely reason for issue.

  • TS3376 Why does my Mac appear at the wrong location, yet my iPad appears at the correct addrtess?

    I switched on Find my Mac and iPad just to check it worked and the Mac appears at the wrong address and with a totally different postcode, yet the iPad appears over the correct address? (They have the road name incorrect but that is the same on Google maps!)

    My Retina MBP, my Mac Mini and my iPad have a location that is not just a bit inaccurate but in the wrong country. I have now been at my French house for over a week and locations on all three of these have not updated from my UK address. This shows in Auto Time and Date location, Maps and Find my Mac/iPhone. My two iPhones (UK and France) have updated as expected. I have tried switching location in Time and Date to somewhere odd (Delhi), deleting the com.apple.maps.plist, all to no avail. I have done a reset on the iPad. All to no avail. All three think they are still in the UK. Any way to force a location update.

  • How do I prevent AE from saving .AEP files in the wrong folders?

    I've been using AE heavily for about 6 months, and it has this really pesky basic Windows UI problem that makes life quite frustrating. I work on lots of projects that I maintain sequentially numbered in their respective folders. Typically in Windows when you choose "Save As" windows defaults to the folder the current file resides in.  For some reason After Effects defaults to the last folder I saved a file in, which often times is not the folder I am in. So I end up with project files from projectA stored in the projectB folder.  This leads to version control problems when members of the team can't find the most recent version of projectA and so they start working on the previous version of ProjectA and later on ask me where all my changes are.  I want to believe that AE has a checkbox in preferences somewhere that says "make save-as feature operate like every other windows program" - but I haven't found it yet.  Does anyone have any advice on this topic?

    I think you are operating on wrong assumptions - a project is just a reference to other files plus some internal data, so it doesn't exactly make sense to maintain endless lists of absolute paths, given that you can import things back and forth in a million ways. What happens as soon as you import a project into another one? What, when you collect files? What happens when you re-import pre-rendered files? A "same origin" policy would be riddled with tons of issues to figure out the logic as to what the user actually wants to do and which path is the correct one.... I've never missed any such feature.

  • Saving a file in the same location as run .jar

    I have been playing around with an auto updating client for a project I am working on.
    I have been able to get the client to update fine and save a copy of the new client into where ever the original was run from using the below code:
    File file;
    CodeSource src = HemClientMain.class.getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource();
    if (src != null)
         try
              URL url = new URL(src.getLocation(), "UpdatedClient.jar");
              System.out.println("Writing to: " + url.getPath());
              file = new File(url.getPath());
              if (!file.exists())
                   file.createNewFile();
              FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
              BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos);However when I tried running this on my laptop I get a file not found error:
    Writing to: /C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Rob/Desktop/UpdatedClient.jar

            at Client.ClientListenThread.run(ClientListenThread.java:38)It's clearly something to do with the location and the path not being correct, as if I move the client to say .. c:/ and run it it updates and saves fine.
    Is it something to do with the spaces in between document and settings? And if so how do I stop this from happening? Is there another way I can accurately find the path to the current jar file and save a copy there?
    I used to do it via this code:
    String fileLocation = System.getProperty("java.class.path");     However I now have more than one thing in my classpath and this doesn't produce one path but a combination of them all ... which is not really what I want. There must be a nice way to do this!
    Any help / suggestions appreciated. Any further questions I will attempt to answer my best :)

  • Saved passwords although upper and lower case when displayed in the list of saved passwords transfer to the appropriate location as lower case only.

    running windows 7 64bit pro
    Geico website is the only place where we have upper and lower case user name
    current version firefox 6.0.2

    Make sure that you haven't saved Uppercase and Lowercase versions of that name and password.
    Remove saved Password(s):

  • ITunes saves everything to the wrong location

    In my preferences I have it set so that everything saves to my music library, however, everything gets saved to my photo's library. Multiple times, I have closed iTunes and deleted everything in the iTunes folder in my folder library, but that accomplishes nothing. All of my music, movies, apps, etc, are in my music folder but when I redownload everything, iTunes puts it into the folder it keeps making in my photo library.

    Assuming you were using iTunes' default settings it would put everything you need in the iTunes folder in your Music folder.  iTunes has a central controlling file called library.itl which tells the application where your media files are actually located.  Then there's a bunch of other files and folders that do things such as organize artwork, Genius, etc.  Everything is in the one folder.  The advantage of this is if you want to move it to a different drive all you have to do is copy the entire folder in one go, then restart iTunes as directed earlier.
    If you change the preferences for iTunes it doesn't move the whole collection.  It tells iTunes to store media in the location indicated in the future. You end up with old media stored on the original drive, new media on the other drive, and the other files and folders also on the main drive.  This makes it much harder to re-organize because it requires multiple careful steps where you really know what you are doing.
    Consolidating copies (not moves) files from wherever they are located to the location indicated in the iTunes media setting location preference.
    If you still have everything intact on the main drive I would just back up and do the simple library move indicated earlier.  I'm not sure where things are right now.
    A tip.  It is suggested you not use for general file storage the same drive to which Time Machine backs up. There can be issues with competing space.  Second, if this is your backup drive and you are using it for media overflow, where is your backup of your media?  I know people have problems because notebooks are so popular, but they really don't have the capacity for modern media and the only real solution is to have multiple external drives.

  • My bookmark button is in the wrong location

    Next to the search bar there is an icon for HOME and also a icon for Bookmarks (to show recently used, ect....). Im not sure how, but now this has been moved to the same line as my bookmarks (directly below the search bar, and to the far right of all my bookmarks). If I turn on the file menu, the bookmark icon dissappears all together and if I customize the tookbal it shows that the bookmarl button is directly next to the home button. But when I close the customize screen down the bookmark button reverts to below the searhc bar.
    This has just recenlty occured and I am not sure why it is doing this.
    I have tried to uninstall firefox and reinstall, both with and without saving my settings.
    Im stumped here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That is the intended action of that Bookmarks button.
    When the Bookmarks Toolbar is showing the button appears there, when you hide the Bookmarks Toolbar it moves up to the Navigation Toolbar, to the right of the Home button.
    And when the Menu Bar is selected to show all the time, that button disappears altogether. That button was added to Firefox to give you access to your bookmarks when the Menu Bar with the Bookmarks menu item is hidden.
    Also, when you open the toolbar Customize mode, that button shows on the Navigation toolbar.

  • ITunes points to the wrong location for some songs. I can't fix it...

    Hello,
    I have an iTunes library with 6,000+ songs, and I can't afford to lose them all. I tried to copied my entire iTunes folder to my external hard drive, and now most of my songs have the grey exclamation point next to them saying they can't be found. I checked the info of those missing songs, and it says the file path is "file://localhost/Volumes/MUSIC/Music/Artist/Album/Track Title.mp3". However, the actual path should be "/Volumes/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Artist/Album/Track Title.mp3" I think. How can I fix these songs? Some few random songs that still work are pointing to the internal hard drive on my mac in the original iTunes folder. How can I get all the locations set to the right place? Even if I can get it working from my internal hard drive again, that would be good.
    I really need to keep all of the track information that is in the iTunes library file (Date added, play count, rating, etc.)
    Please help me out, I cannot figure this out to save my life. If you need any other information, please just let me know.
    Thank you,
    Christian

    I messed around with the XML file and the .itdb file and somehow I got it to point to my other hard drive and I didn't lose any of my dates added. I wish I payed more attention to what I did so I could help other people with this issue...

  • I added new songs in itunes and sync'd to ipod but the playlists that were changed are now in the wrong location. e.g. "Instrumental" playlist is now between letters M and N on my ipod, but in right location in itunes.  How do I fix this?

    Also, I can no longer find my "Recently Added" playlist.  I have searched every title in my playlists and its no longer there.  It's really frustrating because now if I want to listen to a new playlist that I've added new music to I have to really search for it.  Please help!  Thank you!

    This worked. Yesterday after I logged out - I continued to try to figure it out, and came up with the same solution. I made a smart playlist with both types.
    However, I had tried to drop those into the green purchased file yesterday and it would not accept them. Today it works.
    Guess it is like a car. It makes a noise, and when you take it to the dealer, it stops making that noise.
    I went and looked at all of the songs I had purchased. Some of the more recent songs say Protected. The first five I purchased just say "AAC audio file" but if you look at them in their file, they have the little lock icon on them, as the purchased and protected ones do.. So I dunno... ??
    Thanks for the help.
