I tunes wipes out cd drive

my i tunes software is wiping out my cd drive i rang my support centre and they said it is common in england. i cannot put any tunes on to my i pod as it just comes up with no cd burning device has been detected, is there any way round this.

I recently had my computer fixed and they did a system restore deleting all of my music, of course. I went to download itunes and get going again and must have enabled an option that replaced my 2500 songs from my ipod with nothing from the computer's library. HOW do I get back all my music? PLEASE help!

  • Wipe out hard drive and clean install

I may have a bad sector on hard drive with Mac pro laptop; OS snow leopard would "hang" & apple logo would appear but laptop would not boot to finder. Genius bar technician instructed me to backup files, clean hard drive to zeros, and reinstall OS software. Could not locate the steps to accomplish this in my manual or apple support site. Could someone point me to the guidance for this?

Launch Disk Utility and read its Help files.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Wipe out Internal Mac Book Pro hard drive

I need help on how to wipe out my internal Mac Book Pro hard drive. I used the Mac Office demo and now the demos are no longer usable. How can I wipe out the mac book pro hard drive? Should I contact my Apple Care service center for assistance, since I am paying for that service and they can walk me through the process? I want to clear out to what it was like when I first got the lappy. Help, anyone? Thanks in advance.

    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with the OS X installation. Once OS X has been installed and is running you can then run the installer for the pre-bundled software.

    - Transfer your iTunes' purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Try making a backup of the iPod by right clicking on the iPod  under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup.
    - Connect your new iPod and restore the iPod from that backup if you wish.

  • How can I completely wipe the hard drive with out the Mac OS X disc? I don't need any of the info on the computer.

How can I completely wipe the hard drive with out the Mac OS X disc? I don't need any of the info on the computer.

You can't unless you have a bootable system on an external drive you can use. Otherwise, you need either the original disc that came with your computer or a retail copy of Snow Leopard DVD. The latter contains 10.6.3, so your model must be capable of booting from that or an earlier version of OS X.
You can purchase replacement discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.

  • I had to wipe out my hard drive on Monday and now I am afraid I have lost all my music...

Help! On monday I had to wipe my hard drive out and reset it do to constant error messages. While on tech support I backed everything up as best I could but now I think my music is gone...I am not sure how to even start over or if my library will be there when I reinstall itunes. Any advice~thanks so much...it has been an interesting week!

Open iTunes first, then click on file in the top left corner, then click on Transfer Purchases from iPod.
That will transfer apps, music, TV shows ect.. You can also redownload your items from the iTunes store (just the TV shows, Movies and music you bought there). To do this go to iTunes store, then click on Purchesed and all your items will be there.

My new computer wants to wipe out my sons apps on his iphone and he will lose all of his "progress" in the games he had loaded on already. Is there a way to save th info from all the apps and still designate the new computer as his new primary one?

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
Backup iTunes to an External Drive

An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

  • Zero Out Hard Drive Question

I have been using my 27" iMac for various software testing. Now that my testing is complete I want to wipe the drive and start fresh. In Disk Utility there are many options to choose from when going to Erase > Security Options. Is there any benefit to Zeroing out the drive before re-installing Snow Leopard? Or can I just select the Don't Erase Data option and reinstall deleting the home folder when prompted. Does Zeroing out free any more space up?

no, there is no benefit to this at all. zeroing out is only needed to prevent data recovery. it serves no other function. apparently, it doesn't even map out bad blocks on the hard drive.
Or can I just select the Don't Erase Data option and reinstall deleting the home folder when prompted.
"don't erase data"?? there is no such option in disk utility. just erase the drive using the erase tab. this will erase everything on your hard drive. or better yet, reformat the drive using the partition tab. then quit disk utility and proceed with the install.

  • Wipe out my MacBook Pro

I want to wipe out my MacBook Pro so I can give it away.  Is there a guide or support on how to wipe it out so it is ready to go for a new user?

Which OS version did it originally come with?
You are showing that you are running Lion; if you purchased that at the app store, you must remove it as the license is not transferable. You will need to wipe your drive and use the original install disks to reinstall the original system.
Post back if it came with Lion for instructions on how to do it.

  • Wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

I need to wipe my hard drive clean except for the OS whats the best way?

From Kappy (note: with this method, you will need to update to the present OS version using the appropriate Combo Update from Apple Downloads.)
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities (Installer menu if using Panther or Jaguar) menu. After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button. Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button. Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive. If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive. The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive. After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now complete the OS X installation. At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer. Instead just shut it off. The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

I have a new computer with windows 8.1.  I want to add the 52 Gb of music now on my old ipod to itunes on the computer.  I don't want to wipe out the files on the ipod by syncing to the new computer which has no music files on it yet!  How can I do this?

Apparently I wasn't clear.  The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives.  I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists.  How can I do this?
