I turn on my computer, click on the Firefox icon on my desktop, the web browser appears but the same screen always appears and says, "Well this is embarrassing" and says the problem is due to a previously opened tab.

I am online everyday. I turn on my computer and click on the Firefox icon. A web browser appears but not with my Yahoo! homepage. Instead of seeing my Yahoo! homepage I see a screen that says, "Well this is embarrassing." I read that the problem is due to a recently opened tab. It gives me the options of either restoring all previously used tabs from the last time of use or starting a new session. If I choose to restore previous tabs, I am further given the option to select which tabs I want restored and which ones I don't want to restore. I always choose to start a new session because all previous tabs consist of work that I have completed in the past (whether it be yesterday or the day before). I, therefore, have no interest in restoring a tab that contained an article about our current economic situation for example. As previously stated, I choose to start a new session every time I receive the "Well this is embarrassing" error message. When I choose this option, I am brought to a fresh tab with no information regarding work, articles, or entertainment from yesterday or some time in the past. I wish to have an explanation as to why this happens. I do not go on any malicious web sites or anything of the sort. This happens every single day. The automatic error message that appears is "Well this is embarrassing." For Firefox to say "Well this is embarrassing" is not close to the response it should give.

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

I reinstalled my windows xp now the firefox icon on my desktop is now a white square with the firefox inside how do I fix it

Did you try to change that icon in the Properties via the right-click context menu?

  • When will the "Well, this is embarrassing..." problem going to be fixed? A lot of folks are having the problem. Do I need to just switch back to Safari?

When I log onto Moz., get an error message starting with, Well this is embarrassing... I don't have any clue what to do about it except to switch to a browser that is working.

I upgraded to FF Ver 20.0 a couple of months ago, and that is when this "Well, this is embarrassing" nonsense started. I've been using Firefox for many years on my several Mac computers, and it is only with this LAST upgrade that I have been getting this "error" message every time I start Firefox. YES, I have figured out how to avoid this problem by simply making sure that the particular window I want to START with is on the screen before I click the "Quit Firefox" tab under the "Firefox" word on the top menu. BUT HAVING TO DO THAT EVERY TIME I CLOSE FIREFOX IS NONSENSICAL !! Why do I have to do that now, when I've never had to do that before? It makes no sense. To avoid desktop clutter, I have always closed the open Firefox windows on the screen, but leave Firefox running in the background; then, when I want to get back on the internet an hour later and re-open Firefox (as I have done thousands of times in the past), now I get that nonsensical "Well, this is embarrassing" message again. It is extremely irritating, and totally unnecessary.

  • Why does the Firefox icon on my desktop read1788 and not Mozilla?

Recently the Mozilla icon on my desktop changed from reading Mozilla to 1788 (the writing right under blue the Mozilla Firefox symbol) . Is this something Mozilla has done or is there an issue I need to resolve and if so how to I resolve this issue?
Also are there any free virus protection, that work with Mozilla?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me in this matter.

No, the desktop shortcut hasn't been renamed. First, make sure it's really pointing to Firefox and not something else:
    1. Right-click the icon and choose Properties.
<br>2. In the Properties window, click the Shortcut tab.
<br>3. Make sure the Target field says<br>
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    4. If it does, then click the General tab.
<br>5. In the text box at the top, enter the name you want for the shortcut.
<br>6. Click the OK button when done.
I take it you're having problems with the avast! Online Security add-on, which is why you have it disabled? Any add-on that scans every link on every page is bound to add a delay to loading time. If you're having more severe issues, you can ask for help on the Avast forum:
    * http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0
That add-on isn't required for virus and malware protection. Here are some alternatives to the features it provides:

  • Closed all apps before shut down then morning boot, opened Firefox says "well, this is embarrassing". Why?

I have a new HP and Windows 7. I always close my apps before nightly shut down. In the morning, I open Firefox, Thunderbird, and Sunbird first. Lately Firefox has been coming up with the very polite error message: "Well, this is embarrassing." Then it says it can't reload the session.

    Hi,
The definite way to properly close Firefox is via the '''Firefox''' button Exit or '''File''' ('''Alt''' + '''F''') > '''Exit'''. Please also note that plugins may cause a slight delay in the shutdown sequence of Firefox. So it could be that Windows shuts down before Firefox completely exits. You can check if '''firefox.exe''' is still running by right-clicking on the Windows Taskbar and '''Start Task manager''', click the '''Processes''' tab. Also, check for '''plugincontainer.exe'''. If Firefox is taking a long time to exit, right-click on the '''plugincontainer.exe''' and '''End Process'''.

  • I want the website icon, not the Firefox icon on my desktop.

When I create a shortcut on my desktop I get the Firefox icon, not the website icon, which is the icon I want for easy and quick identification. How can I EASILY get rid of the Firefox icon and replace it with the website icon?

Please do not dig up old threads about this issue.
You have read that Firefox doesn't do that and that you need to change the icon of the default browser that such a link gets to the website's favicon yourself if you are not satisfied with the default icon. You have to change the icon via the Properties of the shortcut. You can usually save the favicon via the "Firefox/Tools > Page Info > Media" window.

  • Though I have Firefox set as my default browser, when I click on the Firefox icon, Bing comes up as my browser. Why is this?

If I go into my Bookmarks after Bing comes up as my browser and then click on Firefox, it comes back as my browser, but I don't like having to go through this extra step.

Some free software includes an Ask toolbar.
    Try this:
    (1) Disable any Ask add-on (and all other nonessential or unrecognized add-ons) on these two tabs:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category<br>
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If you get a link above a disabled extension to restart Firefox, you can click that as the last step after completing your work on the tab.
    (2) Run the Search Reset extension to switch your search providers back to Google:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
    (3) If your home page was changed, see this article: [[How to set the home page]].
    (4) Check for a user.js file that might override your settings the next time you start Firefox. See this article for the steps: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
Does that solve it? Any other vestiges to root out?

  • The firefox icon on my desktop changed to an A over 2 sheets of paper, is this normal, site still works.

I went to open firefox and a message came up and left very fast, I think it said something about corrupted. However, my icon which was the firefox orange fox over the blue globe changed to an A with 2 sheets of paper under it. It hasn't seemed to effect the use of firefox, I can still open and use it, but it has not gone back, it has stayed with the A, is this a problem I should address?

    Try this solution in [[/questions/883573]]
    * Delete the icon from the dock.
    * Create a new icon by dragging the Firefox application to the dock.

  • Putting the firefox icon on my desktop

when I download the Firefox browser it failed to put an icon on my desktop, it failed to put it on my quick launch bar and it doesn't show it has been installed on my computer

Do you have a Firefox program folder?
    *C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    *C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ (64 bit OS)
If not then you need to download a fresh version and reinstall the program.
    *Firefox 16.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
You may need to do that as Administrator (right-click the Firefox installer: Run as Administrator).

  • When I click on the Firefox icon on my desktop the Netscape sign on window opens and doesn't close. Firefox opens after repeated clicking but it never connects.

The wheel that says "connecting" just spins indefinitely. Does anybody know what the problem could be and how it can be fixed? This started a couple weeks ago out of the blue. It never happened before. I've been logging in to Firefox for the last couple years without any issues. Funny thing is I'm not even sure if we have Netscape. I've looked on-line for info on viruses that behave the way I've described above and I havn't found anything.

  • After I double click on the firefox icon, firefox refuses to load. Why?

'''bold text'''I have windows 7. When I double click on the firefox icon on my desktop the circle moves around and around then stops and nothing happens

    Hi dizzydar,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

Just bought a nano and want to download some of my iTunes library. The "Music" button shows almost all my selections but some albums are missing, yet ONLY those albums appear on the nano icon on my desktop after being dragged there but none of the others. What's happening?
I've read some of the post here that I thought might help but they refer to titles (Music) and triangles in the "Devices" window which are nowhere to be seen when I open the "Devices" window.
I have iTunes 11.0.3 and Mac OS 10.6.8. Does this make a difference?

I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.
