Check System Preferences / Accounts - Login Items.
BTW... if you are running v10.5.4, there are updates available. The latest version for Leopard is v10.5.8.

Odonnells52 you will still need to install Adobe Acrobat Professional prior to being able to make edits to PDF or utilize Acrobat. By default the installation files have been saved to your download folder.
If you continue to face difficulties with the Adobe Download Assistant then please see Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant.
You can also download the installation files directly from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X if you are unable to locate the downloaded installation files.

Design partner for hug amounts of db connections and data?

I am new to J2EE and I have a question to the more experienced architects here. I would like to build an application based on a J2EE server that will regularly poll multiple databases from different manufactures over the network or the Internet (could be several 1000) and save this data in a central database. This would mean that a full-scale application could receive hug amount of data in bursts or sent on an e2e fashion. For a web shop type of application there is the MVC architecture but is there a design partner for this type of problem where I need to handle hug amounts of db connections and data?
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

If your Mac is running OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)

In case of billing document cancellation (VF11) the cancelled doc. is not getting automatically cleared against the actual billing doc. no. Each time user has to clear the doc. manually. We have observed this issue after recent patch updation dated 22nd Feb’2014. Till 21st Feb’2014 the cancelled doc. has been cleared automatically against their respective billing documents.

Please chheck SAP Note No. 1259505. It explains two ways in which SAP releases cancellation documents to FI.
OSS NOte 1259505 lists the possible causes from SD side &
OSS Note 309208 lists the possible causes from FI side.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

iWork '09 is $19 on Amazon. I would jump on that option. You won't miss iWork'08.

This morning, I made a new "customer" and downloaded the "trial version" of CC2014 photoshop. This resulted a working CC2014. I hope Adobe can fix my "real" account which does not work at this time.
Anyone else tried this?

I don't think everyone with a Mac is having basic problems with Photoshop 2014.1.
What exact versions do you have in each case? Is your updated version 2014.1, while the "new customer" version is 2014.0? Choose Help - System Info to see.
Sounds like, given your specific system, you may want to try a full clean and reinstall, or maybe a downgrade to 2014.0 until 2014.1.1 or 2014.2 comes out. I think the older versions are available through the Creative Cloud application.

You mentioned you tried some steps but I'm not sure what they are, you may try my suggestion to resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, right-click Computer, click
Properties, and then click Advanced system settings.
On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
Locate and select the __COMPAT_LAYER variable, and then click Edit.
Set the value of the __COMPAT_LAYER variable to EnableThemes. Or, delete the __COMPAT_LAYER variable.
If the issue persists, we can troubleshoot this problem in Clean Boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with PowerPoint:
