I updated iTunes and then had problems. iTunes fails to download. Did they take it off-line?

There were no error codes. I went to the download site and started to download. Popup window appeared and then when I clicked on save, the window disappeared, but no download appeared in the download folder.

Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

I have an iPhone4 and after being connected to my PC iTunes failed to update the IOS software. The phone display now shows the iTunes symbol and asking me to connect the lead. If I do so, iTunes detects phone in recovery mode and asks me to restore before I can use iTunes. If I select it, will it delete all my photos, videos, contacts and messages? Yes, due to Incomplete Software Update on your iPhone your Device is now in Recovery Mode and you cannot take a Backup now. But if you have taken a backup earlier then you can Restore that backup on your iPhone after you Reset your iPhone to Factory Settings.

TS3212 I unistalled Itunes and then installed new itunes, It's still giving me the error message

I tried to upgrade my itunes to the new 10.6.3 . It said that it was completed and to restart the computer, I did and when I click on the itunes icon it gives me an error message and to reinstall. I follow that procedure and it still doesn't work. So then I removed it completely and downloaded it new from the website and I'm still getting the same error message.

Spent hours trying everything suggested and finally this morning hit on a solution. iTunes must be run as an administrator. Even though you are logged into your PC as an administrator, using the iTunes shortcut does not make you an administrator in iTunes. I found this out by using the diagnostics in iTunes and reading through the results report.
I am using Windows 7, so I clicked the start button and right clicked on iTunes and selected "Run as an adimistrator". The first restore attempt got the 4013 error. I then did the DFU thing, hold power and home buttons for 10 seconds, release power and continue holding home for 10 more seconds.
iTunes gave me the restore message and I clicked it. I clicked the restore iPhone button and it started. The drivers loaded a couple of times. I got the apple logo with the progress bar and this time instead of disappearing, it started to fill in.
End result, a successful restore to factory settings and a happy 14 year old.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, there is a hardware problem.

Hmm, well... iTunes trys to activate your iPod using the Apple server to make sure you have bought it legit.
Two things come into my mind:
1) Your iTunes can't access the internet.
2) Apples activation servers are down.
That's just my cents, maybe anyone else has an idea.

If you're really using iTunes 7.0 you are very far behind the current version - maybe it is trying to connect to a decomissioned server. In fact I am kind of surprised it will run on a Macbook Air. Are you sure you are running iTunes 7?
