No, if you have that picture it means the update went wrong and you need to restore via iTunes.

Use 2nd gen apple tv and remote control app on iphones and ipad. We can control some functions on the apple tv but unable to purchase, access such controls as reset, restart, turn off home sharing, etc. Home sharing stuck on old apple ID. Please help.
That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with). -
2nd gen apple tv not streaming after last software update
I have 2 2nd gen apple tvs. I updated the software to 5.0 on one but not the other. The updated apple tv is having streaming issues with my purchased content. Netflix will stream but not my purchased tv shows or movies. Anyone else having this issue? I tried a reset but that didn't work. And my other apple tv which i didnt update is working fine. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to respond and no chance I thought that was rude. Unfortunately I had already reset and rebooted prior to posting. Also I have another 2nd gen apple tv and I stream netflix all the time as well as amazon prime and am not having issues so it's not my connection. The only difference between my two apple tvs is that I upgraded the software on one (which now isn't working right) and not the other which is still functioning well! So I am curious if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution.

2nd Gen Apple TV & Network Storage

I have been searching the forums and couldn't find anything that was related to my question, but I apologize if this question has been asked and answered many times before.
My question is that I currently own a 2nd gen Apple TV and a entry model mid 2010 iMac 21.5". I live in Canada and our only option is to purchase TV episodes instead of renting which is perfectly fine, however I am running into a concern of filling up my HDD with season after season of my favorite TV shows. I was looking at buying a 'Western Digital MyBook World Edition II 2TB Network Storage Drive' to place on my network that is strictly for all my digital media from iTunes. I was wondering if iTunes on my iMac will be able to detect and play media as if it was still directly on my iMacs HDD, and if so will I be able to stream all my media to my Apple TV like I currently am able to. Will that work? If not what other solutions can I look at for storing my media and having it accessible for my Apple TV without having to load up my iMac HDD?
I also already have a Time Capsule for my network but I want to dedicate the storage of that drive to personal and business documents and not all this media.

yes, however bear in mind that by having your media stored on a NAS, you are effectively doubling the amount of network data when playing content on the appletv.
your new setup would essentially be -
NAS > router > itunes > router > appletv.
currently it is -
itunes > router > appletv
if you have a robust network you shouldn't see any difference, however if your network isn't the best (especially WIFI) then you could start to see issue when streaming. -
I have an Apple TV 2nd Gen, iPad 2 and can't get the icon to appear when i swipe from left to right. What am I missing?
I am able to get the 'Home sharing' 'user and password on my Mac.
Also using IPad 2 I am able to get the ITunes to accept the user name and same password as the Mac.
However, the only way I can see the 'Home sharing; icon is in Music on the Ipad. When I tap on the Icon it asks for a password.
When I give the same password, it is rejected.

JaxxdiggsPersonally I think the iOS devices are poor at reconnecting - Airplay establishes that a link is available but when the iPhone/iPad has been away from the house and rejoins the network i think AppleTV already thinks it's connected with a different IP address and fails to recognise it has joined the network again with new credentials.
Something along those lines anyway.
I find that a combination of restarting AppleTV, router and iOS device tends to fix it, but not for everyone.

iphone 4s stopped in middle of update (via wireless). apple logo and usb picture appeared on phone. When i plugged in to computer, indidcated I would have to restore. in the middle of restoring, i got a "unknown Error" (1) code and the apple id and usb picture are frozen on screen. Anyonw know what to do?

It sounds like you are getting error code 1 when you were attempting a restore. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article which mentions that error code:

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

How long does it typically take to update new apple products? I'm speaking in terms of software/firmware updates. My new Apple TV and iPad 3 are glitchy, which is extremely frustrating considering I have the last gen of each sitting there working flawlessly.
I appreciate the responses, however my initial post was too vague. I apologize and will explain. The specific issues are the window closes occasionally when loading something large, that has ceased in the last day or two. My battery life is no where near the second gens, is that the extra hardware at work? I thought that had been accounted for? One of the frustrating, albeit humorous occurrences is when I placed the second and third gen within 1 foot of each other, turned off LTE, and streamed a video. From every location the second gen out ran the new model on 3G signal, lol. Not a huge deal since I have wi-fi or LTE pretty much everywhere I am, but disappointing none the less.
The new apple tv is great, except for the same thing everyone is posting about. HD iTunes library streaming taking overly extended load times. I don't expect it will take too long for apple to address that issue. I'm new to apple, last 6 months, but they seem to have excellent support! It is definetly highly rated. -

the wifi router could also be blocking
and to really test if the windows firewall is the problem then try turning it off!
if that scare you too much then disable the internet modem / cable modem or the likes while you test
always remove more and more factors when troubleshooting sooner or later it will work and you can narrow down which factor did the job and work on that -

It sounds like you are trying to update some of your apps and when you tap the update button, the update does not happen. I recommend starting by closing the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App Stores, and restart the phone and try to update them again:

If the issue persists I would next verify that you can find it in your purchased history with ths article:
Tap App Store.
Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Tap Updates.
Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
So that you can then delete the app and re install it:
Reinstall the affected app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-left corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and download it again.
Note: If it's a paid app, make sure you're using the iTunes account you purchased the app with originally. If it isn't, you may be asked to purchase the app again. Learn more about downloading previously purchased items.

iPod shuffle 2nd Gen is not recognized on PC, but other shuffles are. Software is updated. Is this the end of the road for this particular shuffle?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and what I think is the 2nd Gen Apple TV( its the black one that does 720 not 1080p). I have recently installed Mavericks on my MBP, but I do not see the morrior option or any airplay option at all.
Is this a limitation on my MBP due to age, is it the Apple TV, or am I just missing something do stupidly obvious I will be embarassed?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Sign out and back in to your iTunes Store account.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore) -
5.2 update broke my 2nd gen Apple TV?
Ok, so I updated to 5.2 overnight last night and today I go to watch Elementary in TV Shows (I have the season pass) and after I click the TV Shows icon it spins for a while then kicks me back to the main menu. It says I'm up to date on the software and the only other 2 things abnormal is that when I scroll over to the Music button it says up top "Syncing Purchased Music - Your purchased music is currently being synced to your AppleTV" - it's been over 24 hours and I've tried restarting, unconnecting all plugs and even unplugging the router, all to no avail. The other weird thing is under Setting>iTunes Store at the bottom it says "Stop Loading" in gray and nothing happens when I click it. HELP!

Try logging out your iTunes account and then logging back in, try restarting the Apple TV and your router.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
