I updated my 3gs iphone and tryed to activate it with thehelp of wifi but it displayed : your iphone could not be ativated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable
i need support to activate my iphone 3gs upgraded
Generally a sign that either the iPhone is jailbroken or the computer
you are using to activate the iPhone has been used to jailbreak an iPhone.

looked on forums, can't get to anything (flight mode, etc, etc)This usually happens if the phone has been Hacked / Jailbroken / Modified...

i live in iran. this 3gs was a gift from america .. it contains NOTHING. i can do nothing with it. it cannot be updated cuz the version is low. i dunno what t do please help.Possible causes:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
5. The phone was reported stolen. If it was it can never be activated again.
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer. -

Is backed up on comp but can't get to without phone! During update my laptop shut off. Problem started after I started it back up to finish the process. Why would that make a diff? What to do now???? Sometimes the activation server is just not available for a short time. Trying again usually corrects this problem. But as Peter Gillespie suggests, if the iPhone you are trying to activate has ever been jailbroken, or the computer you are using to activate the phone has been used to jailbreak an iOS device then you will get the Activation Server not Available message.

and i mean the phone would have been activated in the first place with the sim card you get given when you first get the phone.
trying to activate the phone with another sim card that you did not get when you brought the phone may result in you not being able to activate it

Thank you for the note - I have seen similar replies on other posting errors and I see how that could make sense. The thing is, my iPhone is not jailbroken - it is from an authorized distributor. However, when I told them about the "no service" problem on the sim, they were unable to assist. Then my phone messaged that an itunes restore was required - so I did that, several times, to the error message now noted on my post. I wonder if there is some other way to over-write this message? Thanks very much. -
