I have an iPhone 4 and yesterday I updated my software to iOS 5.1.1
Now it says my sim is not valid, which is weird because I have been using this sim since my dad bought me this phone in 2011 Nov. I live in southern Africa (Botswana) and I use Orange sim..What do I do? Please help? I'm desperate, I really cant afford another phone Oh and its not jail broken,

I live in South Africa, and I had the same problem with my iPhone 4.
After weeks of frustration and swearing, I was in the process of restoring my phone to a previous iOS. To do that you need to turn the "Find my iPhone" option off, since i turned it off, my problem was solved. No need to repair anything or revert back to old iOS.

hi everyone i have an iphone 3gs it was running on 4.0.1 and i updated to 6.0.1. then its said i needed to restore my phone to factory settings and i did but now it says; "your phone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable try connecting your iphone to itunes to activate it or try again in a couple of minutes"...if this problem persists contact apple support at apple.com/support.
I've tried all that i can and still no results. Could anyone shed some light on the subject if so it would be greatly appriciated!

Ok thank you so much! Although I ended up taking the sim card out of my new Iphone and reinserting it into my old one it finally let me restore it! So thanks once again this really helped!

Sounds like your phone was hacked to work with any network. Doing the update re-locked it to the original carrier. All you can do now is contact the carrier it is locked to to see if they have an unlocking policy. Note that if it's AT&T they do not offer unlocking. otherwise find an un-activated sim for the original carrier and you can use it as an iPod.

Icloud uses you Apple ID. It one of the Key feature on the new ATV. Restart the ATV, if that doesn't work unplug it and restart it. It should resolve the issue

Sounds like you have a phone that was hacked to unlock it. Updating has re-locked it to the original carrier. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Contact them.

The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.
