    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The iPad 1 is only able to do basic AirPlay, many providers of programming have blocked their apps from working with AirPlay.

  • I have just update my mac mini server to OX Yosemite, but now the iTunes is not working at all.

I have just updated my Mac Mini Server (Mid 2011) to OS Yosemite ver 10.10, after the update, iTunes is not working, and i have tried to reinstall iTunes over and over again but it was not successful , please advise if you have a solution or share similar problems. Thank you.

You have to upgrade to 10.6.8 to be able to download iTunes 10.7 or 11.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Open the General tab of the Finder's preferences and set it not to be displayed on the desktop. Alternatively, if it's a disk image or external disk, just drag it to the Trash.

  • Should I update my Mac Mini to Mavericks???

    Hi,
I have a late 2012 Mac Mini which I purchased mid 2013. It is running OS X 10.8.5 (12F45) (Mountain Lion I believe) and I am able to upgrade for free to OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. I have read many review comments for Mavericks and they seem to be very mixed as to if it is good or bad.
I want to update my Mac Mini but I can not find any specific information on if the upgrade will work fine for a Mac Mini as most questions and answers are more specific for a Mac Book or iMac.
I am very much a noob at all this so your help (and understanding) would be very much appreciated .
    Cheers.

Based in my experience with a very newly acquired new late 2012 mac mini, I would not update.  I already had an older mac mini that ran perfectly under Snow Leopard.  And indeed it still does run perfectly under 10.6.8 and indeed Windows 7.
But there have been continuing annoying issues with Mavericks.  E.g. the dock disappears without reason  As for email, the new mail program is dire - keeps reverting to conversation mode, and when BT changed me over to the new servers in the UK this week - used by millions here in UK) - the IMAP account parameters are so automated that Apple just default to the old servers that don't work.  There is no obvious way to define the new servers.
OK there may be a workaround but it's a farce.  The web is awash with complaints about mail - some suggesting using Thunderbird.
I have 50 years IT experience - a real geek - so how do less experienced users get on.
So I am running my new mac mini permanently on Windows 7 under boot camp 5.  It just works - unlike Mavericks.
Incidentally the new mac mini hardware is great - a lovely balance of design, portability and power.
Both Apple and MS have surrendered their product development to marketing.
I wish I could put Snow leopard on my second mac mini but there seems no sensible way.

  • HT1338 Why can't i update my Mac mini above 10.5.8

Why can't i update my Mac mini above 10.5.8?

    See:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Unable to update my mac mini

I'm unable to update my mac mini. When I try it shows a message "software quit unexpectedly". I try and reopen but message returns.

Hi, is this using Software update?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If 10.7 or more, reboot holding CMD+r down to boot from the Restore Partition, use Disk Utility there.

  • Update my mac mini to mavericks and stay compatible?

Planning to update my mac mini to new mavericks operating system this week, but am concerned about my old, but loved, ipad. The ipad is the original ipad that I sync with the photos and music on my mac mini. Ipad is running ios 5.1.1. Anyone know of any reason I should be concerned before I make the jump to mavericks? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iTunes 11.1.3 (which is the most recent iTunes version) works without any problem with the 1st generation iPad and with iOS 5.1.1. Moreover, if you have got your software updated, you are already using this iTunes version, so nothing will happen after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.
Make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com

how do i update my mac mini (2005) edition

What do you want to update?  The OS?  If so, what version OS are you currently running?
If that's the question all you need to do is click on "software update" ...  Be aware though that if you go past 10.4.x you lose the ability to run OS9 (classic) applications.

You mean, MacOS X 10.9.2 and GarageBand 10.0.2?
How far does the download proceed? Do you get an error message?
Try to resume the download as described here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4485

  • What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or partitioning?

What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or is there some way to partition? I tried doing so but received a message that there wasn't enough free space to partition. Seems like a 1TB drive should have more storage than my Ipad

Its worth confirming what free space you have on your drive:
go to:   Apple Menu > About this Mac >  More Info > Storage
The bar chart shows how much free space there is on the drive:
Please realise that partitioning does not create extra space so this wont help you.
If your free space is less than 20 % you should get extra storage with an external USB or Firewire drive, any make or model will work.

Reboot holding down the Command and R keys.  This will get you in to the Recovery partition.  From there you can reinstall the entire OS.  Please note, Server.app will not be included in the reinstall.  You will need to log into your App store account to download it.
