I updated the software of my iPhone 4s, but now iTunes says my computer is synced with another device, even after I click "restore from backup."

I've selected the "restore from backup" button numerous times, but iTunes continues to give me the message, "This computer has previously been synced with another device." It then gives me the option to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. I want to put my music and apps back onto my phone! How can I get my computer to recognize my phone again?

I found this article some time ago when I was trying to help someone else in this same situation. This is a copy and paste from the website. The website is provided below for you to read before you try this.
Plug your phone into iTunes
Click setup as a new device
Immediately unplug your phone from the computer
Give it about 30 seconds and iTunes will give a message (I don’t remember the specific, but regarding you unplugging the device and it not completing)
Plug your phone back in
Viola! no restore occurred and you can access everything again
This computer has previously synced with an iPhone or another iOS device.

I have updated the iphone 4 to iOS5. Everything seems great but I am trying to use icloud and it says to plug it intot he computer and have wifi. I did that but now itunes says that I need to authorize this computer or lose 63 songs. My computer says it's been synced with another device besides my own, and it wont let me do anything in itunes until I either start up the device as a new one, or restore from another back up, and i dont know what to do!

I got the new ipad several weeks ago, and since i had the ipad 2 before it, i transfered the data from it to my computer and gave the ipad 2 (techinally new since it had nothing on it) to a family member. Can't update the software on my iPhone and iPod on iTunes

I know I've seen other topics about this problem, but I can't figure out what's wrong or how to fix it. Every time I connect my iPhone or iPod iTunes asks me if I would like to download and install the new software available for my devices, but it won't let me. It says that iTunes can't connect with the iPod software update server because I'm not connected to the internet. If someone could please help me to figure this out would be awesome.

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?). I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to. (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath. When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen. So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck. I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.

Then put a SIM in. You cannot activate an iPhone without a compatible Sim.
If your iPhone was hacked/jailbroken the update restore the lock.
