I updated to 5.1 and get the message "the iPhone cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found." What do I do now?

HELP!  I updated to 5.1 and the phone froze.
After restore, it gives the error message above.  It will start a sync, then interrupt and stop... and start and stop.
I've tried rebooting the iMAC when the iphone is ejected from itunes.  No help.
The iphone has never gotten past the apple insignia since the update to 5.1.
Any ideas very welcome..

Try to Reset your device. It might help and is very simple to do.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

  • Updating iTunes 12.1 and get error message "The procedure entry point CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll - what went wrong and how to resolve this?

Updating iTunes 12.1 and get error message "The procedure entry point CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll". What went wrong and how to resolve this?

Entry point errors can often be fixed by deleting the offending dll, then repairing the component it is part of.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

Try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. You can download from the Safe Mode.

    Thanks b noir,
I tried this solution without success. After FixIt ran and didn't find a problem, either in looking for issues with "software upgrade" or "iTunes" it kindly offered to help me uninstall iTunes. I had thought of this as a possibilty but it seems to me that if you do that you lose a lot of "non-native-to-Apple" information you might have entered. I did this once and recovery was painfull. Is there a way to uninstall iTunes without losing all of that sort of thing? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Connect iPad to MAC computer and get this message: iTunes could not connect to the iPad because the device timed out.  ??

Connect iPad to MAC computer and get this message: iTunes could not connect to the iPad because the device timed out.  What is the likely problem???

Eject the iPad, quit iTunes, restart the Mac and reset the iPad and try again. Use another USB port on the Mac if you have a free one to use.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up.

It sounds like your PC or Mac's internal HD is full. You need to delete some data or move it to an external hard drive or storage device of some sort before you'll be able to successfully complete the restore.

Deleted items from Ipod Nano to make room for new. Emptied trash. Still getting error message when I try to copy items from ITunes to Ipod. What should I do now?

If you delete songs (and other items) from the main iTunes library, yes, you need to empty the Trash because iTunes puts the song files into the Trash.  When deleting items from an iPod, the items are not being deleted from the main iTunes library, so nothing should end up in the Trash.
Hopefully, you are not deleting items from your main iTunes library, just to sync those deletions from the iPod.  If you are, there is a better way.  You can post back if you want more info...

    Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • HT4929 I am unable to install OS XLion and get a message that it can't be installed on Disk Mackintosh HD because a recovery system can't be created. I am then referred to apple support but am unable to find anything which can help. Can someone help pleas

Unable to install OS X Lion as "...it can't be installed on Disk Mackintosh HD because recovery system can't be created. Visit www.apple......"
Visiting the web pages does not help me can someone please point me in the right direction ?

OK. You have a Boot Camp partition which is why the issue. See the following:
It seems the issue is that the space at the "bottom" of your available space when Lion installs it's partition is already occupied by BootCamp. The fix was to go into Disk Utility; Select your Hard Drive; Select Partition; Move the bottom of your main partition "up" a bit to create a space for Lion; close Disk Utility; Install Lion; once Lion is successfully installed, go back into Disk Partition and drag the bottom of your main partition back "down" to the bottom of the window.
In your case use Disk Utility to "shrink" your OS X partition a little more than 1 GB.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired empty space. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
Remember that you only need to shrink the OS X partition a little more than 1 GB. Now, when you try the Mountain Lion installation the installer will be able to make the Recovery HD.

  • Your website says Firefox is OK for Mac OS 10.4 or higher, but when we downloaded it, we get a message that Firefox needs Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6. What do we do now???

We have a MacBook Pro 17" laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor running at 2.33 GHz speed.
We have 2 GB of RAM and 77 GB of hard drive space.
From what we know from your website, this should work, but when we click on the Firefox icon that we placed in our dock, we get a message: "You cannot use the application 'Firefox' with this version of Mac OS X." How do we proceed from here?

  • Why do I get a message that "cannot be synced because required disk is missing?"

Since I moved over my iTunes to my new MacBook Air, I cannot sync either of my iPods.  I have tried to restore them but this doesn't help.  I get the message that "the required disk is missing."  There is ample room on the devices.  Also, I cannot eject either of them, regardless of how I try.

Hi there ninjajune! We understand the importance of receiving e-mails! Which e-mail account are you having this trouble with? Have you tried to delete the e-mail account and add it back? What is the make and model of your device? Additionally, are you able to access the e-mail account from a PC? Looking forward to your reply so tha I can better assist!

  • The required disk cannot be found

I changed the settings on my iPod nano so that it would sync songs from a new playlist I created. However, once I did that and hit "Sync", it kept telling me that the iPod cannot be synced because the required disk cannot be found. I tried ejecting and plugging in my iPod again, however, every time I plug it back in the settings go back to the original, and I have to change them to sync to the new playlist again. But every time I do this, I keep getting the same error message (The required disk cannot be found). So I deleted the old playlist entirely and as a result, all the songs on my iPod disappeared and it now keeps giving me a message that the playlists to sync to no longer exist. And if I try to change the settings so it would sync to the new playlist, I once again keep getting the message that the required disk cannot be found. Can anyone help?

Use this tip at your own risk. If it works on my PC, it can work on yours.
For the ones having that iTunes problem, which iTunes recognizes the iPod but doesn't sync and shows the message "iPod cannot be synced. Required disk cannot be found" or ""The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)", here's my advice:
1 - Read the Apple Troubleshooting article available at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996. Try every solutions, even the one saying "Try deleting or removing any third-party Windows OS skins, Windows themes, or desktop mods that are installed(...)". Yes, you should uninstall VistaMizer. He's the one who messed up your computer.
2 - Still not working? Try reinstalling your iTunes, but backup your library first.
3 - And finally, the solution which really worked well. Disconnect your iPod, close iTunes. Remove the iPod from the dock, open "My Computer" and leave the window on a visible spot. Place the iPod on the dock. Check if any new removable drives appear. If it does, keep reading. If not, then I'm afraid I can't help you. Now that we can see the iPod drive, open iTunes. [POINT OF RESTART] Put the new songs you want, as much as you want, or delete the old ones, do something that trigger the automatic syncing by iTunes. The software will try to sync, and it probably will show the same problem as before. Don't panic, everything is fine, don't use CTRLALTDEL, please. Just close the window displaying the odd message when it appears. Leave iTunes open, displaying your iPod content. Go back to the "My Computer" window. Leave it on a visible spot. Now let's start the magic, go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Add New Hardware". Click on "Next". You will see your iPod drive reappearing on the "My Computer" window. Just return to the iTunes window, click on "File", "Sync iPod" and it's done. After syncing, the iPod drive will disappear from the "My Computer" window. To sync again, repeat the operation from the point of restart. To eject your iPod, do it as you would do on a normal operation.
That is just a trick, but it works perfectly while Apple doesn't release a bug fix. Forcing the detection of the iPod drive was the only solution that I found after hours trying to make my brand new iPod Shuffle work. Sorry for any misunderstandings caused by bad english.
