FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...

Sometimes it's a file problem that is automatically loaded when the program launches, like iPhoto for instance, you'll have to do a tedious process of elimination to find the culprit, like a corrupt picture in a huge iPhoto Library folder.
One can right click on the iPhoto Library and "show package contents" to access the Originals folder containing one's original photos.

I am using Thunderbird 24.3.0, the most recent version. My computer operates on Windows Vista. Suddenly on Saturday, Thunderbird stopped downloading messages from my domain. I had not changed any settings in Thunderbird. This happened about a week and a half ago as well & then was okay.
I am able to send messages with no problem. It acts like it is contacting my email accounts but nothing gets downloaded. My web hosting people have been unable to help.
Since then I have tried different things, even closing & re-opening Thunderbird, disabling all plug-ins, but nothing helped. Only one thing temporarily helped was when I sent some emails to Comcast accounts I have (they get forwarded to my domain emails), suddenly two of my emails downloaded. It hasn't worked on additional attempts to do this.

Is something corrupt with my installation of Thunderbird & if so, how did that happen when nothing was changed?

I just got an iPhone 4 as an upgrade from the original iPhone 3. I came home and tried to sync it with my iTunes and it says I need to upgrade my iTunes to work with the 4. The current version of iTunes isn't compatible with my G5 mac????? Help

I have a new iPhone 6 plus and all is OK. But the mail shows more than 400 'unread' messages whereas there are none in the mailbox or trash or anywhere else I have looked. I can send and receive with no problem. I'm sure I have no unread messages.

Sorry, without knowing the Apple ID/Password that was originally used to activate this phone, then there is no way to re-activate it, as you've found out.
Apple can't/won't help you. Your choice is to get this info, or you simply won't be able to re-activate this phone.

Chris thanks for your reply, if none of the Do Not Disturb settings are switched on - then am I right that this setting will have no effect. I.e. I want my phone to ring at all times, so have turned off all of the do not disturb settings
