I upgraded iMac  to OS X Snow Leopard, now Mail app won't work

Hi, I recently upgraded my iMac to OS X Snow Leopard. Now Mail won't launch. The pop-up message says I can't use this version of Mail with this version of OS. I have Mail 3.6. How do I upgrade Mail?

Hello,
Was Mail ever moved out of the Applications folder?

  • Installed snow leopard now FCS2 apps won't work

I just upgraded to snow leopard and yes I know, it's about time, but this is why I don't upgrade unless I have too:-) Now, only FCP works and all other apps that I've tried (DVD studio pro, livetype, motion) "unexpectedly quit" as soon as I try to do  "save as". I can type text into them but changing text color in Livetype causes the crash.
I've done a clean install of FCS2 and repaired permissions to no avail. I've tried searching for answers here and at google as I thought this would have been solved long ago but maybe I'm just not using the correct search terms as nothing helpful has been found.
    thanks, Gary

Thanks. I seem to be having a hard time following the instructions--I'm getting the message
"No receipt for 'com.apple.pkg.ProAppRuntime' found at '/'.
    gary-tompkinss-mac-pro:~ ilovemyremy$ "
when I type sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.ProAppRuntime into the terminal. Maybe I'm supposed to?
One more question about the instructions—it says to copy older prokit.framework file to /system/library/privateframeworks, overwriting the newer one, but the files I downloaded are .dmg files, am I just supposed to install them and consider the file "overwritten"?

  • I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, now my photo studio software is no longer supported by powerpc. Does anyone know of a fix so my photostudio will work?

I upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard, but now some of my applications do not work, most specifically I would like to use my photo studio, but now it tells me that powerpc is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any fixes to this problem? I would really like to continue to use software that I already have! Thank you for your help!

PPC software will not work in Mountain Lion because there is no longer any Rosetta emulator. You will only be able to run your older software by creating another partition on your hard drive on which you can install Snow Leopard. It need not be a large partition since you can still keep your files and programs on the main partition. You could also install Snow Leopard on an external drive from which to boot the computer.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
After you create the new partition boot the computer from your Snow Leopard DVD and install Snow Leopard onto the new partition.

  • After installing Snow Leopard my wireless printer won't work

I installed Snow Leopard now my HP wireless printer won't print.

I suggest you check the properties of the printer in control panel and make sure the IP of the port matches what the IP address is allocated to printer by the hub, sounds like a miss match somewhere

  • Problem to upgrade iMac 9.1 to snow leopard

    Hi:
I'm trying to upgrade my iMac 9.1 from leopard to snow leopard. The machine covers the needs (intel processor, more than 1 Gb of ram , more than 5 Gb free) but when I click in "Install MacOS" the message "MacOS X snow Leopard can't be installed in this computer" appears.
    Any Idea?

You can't use a disk which shipped with a different Mac model to upgrade.

I manage to back up photo in iPhoto, using iTune I Back up using control click mouse and get the back up button, but when I search my computer for the backup it cannot find it anywhere!!!!I I'm afraid to sync in fear of losing all my images and app data. want all mytext and other things to be safe

  • Installed Snow Leopard & now EVERY APP  IS CRASHING

I thought my Adobe CS3 was the worst of it. Until I tried to send an email with an attachment.
EVERY TIME I try to attach a file, Mail crashes.
This is so awful. I am having problems with EVERY application I open.
Firefox crashes when I try to download a file.
Adobe Indesign CS3 crashes when I try to re-link or even place an image.
Adobe Acrobat crashes when I try to make a multi page pdf, etc, etc...
Makes me wonder if they tested this upgrade on any computers at all.
When do we get an update - or do I have to un-install and go back to Leopard?
Loosing HOURS of work and restarts IS NOT OK.
I was so excited that Snow Leopard would take 7GB less space on my computer, I didn't think to wait for reviews.
I have been a MAC user all my life. But this recent string of shotty software, plus some serious hardware issues, are making me re-think my loyalty.

Your last comment makes me think you're misunderstanding what has happened: your computer is the outlier, not the norm. Something specific about your computer is causing the instability. Of course they tested it: the general consensus is that, for the vast majority, this is the most trouble-free, most compatible OS upgrade Apple has produced since Mac OS X was introduced.
Of course that's cold comfort when it's your machine that's been hosed. Every so often, we each draw the short straw. But please do know that if you look hard enough for third-party incompatibilities, and/or are willing to ferret out file corruption on your hard drive with DiskWarrior or Disk Utility, you'll be able to get a stable, trouble-free Snow Leopard system, just as most of us have.
You may have to upgrade some older software to do it, but for example Adobe CS3 works without a hitch for me and my colleagues.
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook Pro recent update to Snow Leopard now disc drive doesn't work??

I just updated my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 now my disc drive won't work at all! I've read a couple forums here that show everyone had this problem back in 2009 when I guess this first came out...great. How do I fix this? It appears to be a software issue. If I upgrade to mavericks will this fix it? Although I also see that makes your computer very slow! Ugh I need help please!

    Two things to try:
    1. SMC reset, Directions are here - note the steps are different depending on whether or not the battery can be removed by the user:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    2. NVRAM / PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
These steps are worth trying, although the problem may be deeper.
Please post back with your results.

  • Updated to snow leopard, now my mouse does not work I have restarted the computer and there is a box on the start up page looking for a wireless mouse which I do not have.  How do I fix this buy a wireless mouse?

My mouse quit working shortly after installing snow leopard.
On the log in screen it is stuck looking for a wirelesss mouse, which I do not have
How do I get around this besides buying a wireless mouse?

What kind of mouse do you have? USB? Have you tried to plug it in - try all the USB ports (maybe there is a problem with one). It should automatically detect it.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11 on Snow Leopard, now won't recognize iPod Touch 2G?

iTunes 11 doesn't seem to want to recognize my iPod Touch 2nd Generation.  Tested out my iPod Nano 4G, and it connects fine.  I've tried rebooting the Touch and restarting my computer, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

  • Snow Leopard Quicktime plug-in won't work with VR movie

I'm trying to view a ship stateroom on royal caribbean's site (just dreaming....)
    Here's the url:
    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/multimedia/popup/cabin.do?br=R&cabincls=B&cabinTyp e=DO&shipCode=EX&popuptype=virtualTour&shipName=Explorer+Of+The+Seas
When I try it on my intel laptop under os 10.6.8, safari 5.1.7, quicktime plug-in 7.6.6, I get a bunch of gobbledygook on the screen. If I try it with firefox, I get a "missing plug-in" message but it's unable to find the required plug-in.
However, if I try it on my good old ppc imac, under os 10.4.11, safari 4.1.3, quicktime plug-in 7.6.4, it works perfectly.
Anyone have any good ideas? It couldn't be that the newer software is incompatible with older sites? That'd be bad. I hope there's an easy solution to this.
    Thanks!

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. I did click on your link (a bit different from the one I'd posted) and got what appeared to be a weird text file. Since it was supposed to be a movie, I saved it with .mov extension and, sure enough, it played fine in quicktime player. However, safari did not recognize it as a movie to be played with the quicktime plugin. Weird.

  • Upgraded wife's iMacG5 20" to Leopard now built-in iSight not working

Any ideas? I tried iChat, no camera available, Photo Booth, no camera available. She's not going to be happy... need help!

  • My MacBook Pro (2011, Snow Leopard 10.6.7) won't work with an EPSON projector.

I have the mini display to VGA adaptor. Any advice?

I have this same problem. Firefox 4 on 10.6.7 on a 2009 unibody Macbook Pro.
I've noticed that I only have the problem when I'm using multiple monitors and my Firefox 4 window is to the left of the Mac OS X Menu Bar.
My typical arrangement is: laptop monitor with firefox 4 window TO THE LEFT OF external Dell 24 inch monitor with Mac OS X Menu bar.
Moving my Firefox 4 window to the external monitor allows me to open a window.
