Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If not, yur can just repurchases them. Yu will not be chared again as long as you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased them.
Were the apps in the iTunes library of he computer on which yu did the update? If not they will not be n the iPod after the update. Apps themselves (app data is) are not in th backup that iTunes make as the first step of the update. They are synced from the iTunes library to the iPod at the end of the update.

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

It is very frustrating as I want to spend money but I cant see any apps to buy. All of my purchased apps are available.

I bought an iphone and gave my ipod touch to my son. I want to register the ipod in my sons name but still keep all the apps that I bought for it. If they do wipe out when we re-register, can we get them back on since we are using the same computer?
The apps are tied to the the iTunes account that purchased the apps. That can't be changed. I would restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and then sync the items you want on the iPod. The iPod has to be signed into the iTunes account that purchased the music/apps etc. You can change the sign in by going to Settings>Store and log out of the existing account and signing into the one you want. You can change the name of the iPod in iTunes by right clicking on the name in iTunes and change the name like you change a file name.

I have an 8GB iPod touch, 4th Gen. I am trying to make some space for movies, iOS 6 upgrades, etc. and I noticed on iTunes' "iPod touch summary page", there is almost a gig of pictures, even though I only have abou 6 pictures, and half aren't even hi-res! Is there a way to get iTunes to recognize that there are only 6 pictures?
ThanksI had a similar situation with movies - 6G of phantom files. Uncheck this box and do a sync. Check it and sync again.

ITunes wants me to set up the iPod Touch - but I already have
My daughter has a 4th gen iPod touch. When she got it about 6 months ago, I set it up by connecting to my MacBook Pro. Today I wanted to back it up, which we have never done before. When I connect it to iTunes, the only options I get are to set it up from new or restore it from a backup. I don't have a backup obviously, and if I set it up as new, she will lose all the messages from her friends and the home movies she has made.
Why don't I get the usual options to sync the iPod touch and back it up?Does the iPod work OK?

Depends on make/model but I think there should be no problem with older versions, unlike charging straight to the 32 pin connector via some older docks.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account. Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices. You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

i downloaded apps from the itunes store and tried to sync them to my ipod touch but its not syncing.i even restarted my ipod several times but it doesnt seem to work....i tried to delete and re-install the apps but that too doesnt seem to work... and while syncing,the apps are shown in my ipod and after the ipod is synced the apps disappear... dunno wat to do .................please help........
Do you have Restrictions set that prevent adding the apps? (Settings>General>Restrictions).
