I upgraded to 3 gig of ram and now my machine doesn't work

Hi all
I have just switched out my 2 x 512 mb chips and up'ed my ram to 3 gig. The only problm is that with 3 gig in the machine it wont boot up.
I have tries both the 1 gig and the 2 gig chips by themselves and have had no problems. but with both of them in...no joy.
I have tried switching the slots, and still no joy.
the machine runs with the chips in either slot as long as there is only one chip.
Could someone please help me

Hey... Sorry, I was wrong...
It's the 2.33GHZ Core 2 Duo that came out a couple of months after I bought might that can accommodate up to 3 Gigs...
Sorry about the error,
david
P.S. I wish that there weren't so many models beign announced and put out so oftenly so I wouldn't feel so bad about making a purchase only to see a better model w/ twice the memory and a bigger HD to appear a month or 2 later...

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11.0.5 and now Airport Express doesn't work

Just installed the iTunes 11.0.5 update and now I can't get my Airport Express to work.  iTunes won't play and says it can't recognize the Airport Express device.  Even when re-booted at both the iMac and the Airport Express - the link is broken.  iTunes won't even play the media when the Airport Express is selected -- but the Apple TV and the Computer both work well.   Never had this issue before the 11.0.5 update.  Any thoughts or assistance?

Thank you very much for your reply. I did find 2 previous iTune libraries but they seem to be empty.
Your advice on back up is gratefully noted ... I always assumed Time Machine would do the job.
I guess like many people I've spoken to it's time to move away from Apple ...a declinig market may be the only thing which will make them realise they need to be more responsive to and respectaful of  the millions of individuals who have been their loyal customers for many years.
My business has started moving to Windows and we have been surprised how good it is and products like Office 360 are fabulous in the business environment. We have heaps of iMacs ready for the scrap heap!
I am now looking for an alternative to iTunes. Not an easy feat but clearly there is a huge market opportunity out there for someone to produce a decent product. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

  • I installed two 512 dimms of RAM and now my monitor doesn't work!

My G5 tower came stock with 2 dims of 256K. I just installed an additional two 512 Dimms and turned on the computer, only to find that there is now NO picture! I took out the dimms and turned it on with just the originals installed and same thing. I blew out the entire cabinet with compressed air and turned it on again and same thing...nothing! It seems that my computer is fried. Is this possible? Is this a common problem when installing RAM? I'm sure the dimms are in all the way. They fully click in and fit just fine. Anybody have any suggestions, before I take my computer to a MAC store and probably pay way to much to have it fixed? Thanks.

Hi! Did you buy ram that was guaranteed to be for the Mac model? Second, sometimes after messing with hardware a pmu/smu reset is necessary. The early G5's have a tiny button on the motherboard that you should push once with everything unhooked. On the later ones unhook everything (all external cables) and let it sit for 30 minutes. Tom

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

Ipad 2 upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 and the cellular signal doesn't work. Have to restart the unit to work with cellular signal. After a while it goes off and no service indication appears.

iPad 2, Since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2  the cellular signal indicates I do not have a SIM card. Monday spent hours on the phone with Apple support, backed up my iPad, reset all settings, reloaded my iPad and it still tells me I don't have a SIM card. Tuesday went to AT&T and got a new SIM card on the advice of apple support. It worked perfect until this morning and the NO SIM CARD notice reappeared. Never ever had any problem until the upgrade. I find it inexcusable that Apple refuses to address the issues they caused, iOS 8.0.2 is the Ebola of iPad 2 world. I dont have any cellular service after wasting two days trying to address and fix a problem Apple is responsible for. It's obvious Steve Jobs is no longer running the company. Furious & fustrated. How does Apple expect anyone who uses an iPad 2 for work, to remain a customer who will return to their products?

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

I have just updated my software to 10.8.2 and now my sound doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I used disk permission repair to try to resolve this as well as a 'soft' restart. Still have a grayed-out mute checkbox in the sound section of system preferences.

  • Updated to OS4 and now my phone doesn't work!!

Updated my phone to the new OS4 and now my phone doesn't work. It says I have to do a system restore for it to work. If I do a system restore won't that erase all of my photos? Is there anything I can do so I won't lose any of my infomation? I have tons of photos on my phone. If anyone could help me out, I would be grateful.
When I turn the phone on it shows a picture of the usb cable and the itunes logo. I don't want to do a system restore if I don't have to. I don't want to lose my pictures. HELP Please!!

That is one lesson we all have to learn. Backup. Did you backup your iphone regularly? If you did, your photos will backup with it and the restore will put it back on the phone. If you didn't, I am sorry to say that there is probably no way to get those precious moments back. I found that out the hard way years ago. I now learned to backup my computer and iphones at least once a month.

  • I just upgraded the software on my iphone 4s and now the touchscreen doesn't work and i have the itunes logo an arrow and a plug on my screen

I just upgraded the software on my iPhone 4s. Now the touchscreen doesn't work and on the screen is the itunes logo, an arrow and a plug. I have powered it off and on and nothing changes

The iTunes icon and cable means that it's gone into recovery mode - you will need to connect the phone to your computer's iTunes and you should be able to use that to reset the phone, and you can then restore/resync your content to it

  • I mashed the buttons and now my L200P doesn't work!

    Hi guys,
I recently bought a second-hand ThinkVision L200P. I installed it behind a large sheet of glass, which seems to have had the unfortunate effect of pressing all the buttons at once for an extended period of time, and now my L200P doesn't display an image.
I opened up the L200P case (it's second hand) and took out the little 'button bar' PCB to make sure none of them were stuck in. By pressing the little switches on the PCB, I see the following behaviour:
Upon pressing the power button, I see the 'IBM Thinkpad' splashscreen for a moment, then it disappears. I think it used to then say 'Power Saving mode' but it doesn't anymore.
Upon presssing and holding the menu button for 10 seconds, I get the message 'Menu Locked'. If I press and hold for a further 10 seconds, I get 'Menu Unlocked'. The text is clear and bright green
None of the other buttons appear to do anything, even after pressing them many times and holding them for long periods
Powering on while holding 'left' and 'right' arrows does nothing
Holding 'right' arrow without any connectors in does nothing
My hunch is that mashing the buttons has somehow, say, turned down the brightness and contrast and locked the menu or something. But I don't know how to undo it.
What should be my next step? Like I said I've opened the case, so I'd be happy to 'hard reset' the unit by shorting a jumper or something.
    Regards,
    Richard.

Lcd screen are not consumer serviceable parts.......... it is not like a laptop. There is no hard reset in LCD monitors like you are suggesting. You would need a new PCB from somewhere, you could try to source a broken L200p and salvage that part, but other than that there is little you can do.

  • I updated the new OS7.2 version, and now my iPad doesn't work at all.

I updated my iPad with OS7.2 version, and now my iPad is not working at all. The screen had a frozen iTunes icon with the diagram of the charging cord. I can't turn it on or off. What do I do?

You need to start iTunes on your computer and connect the iPad to the computer. Tis will allow you to go through the restore process. Be sure to update iTunes to version 11.1 before connecting your iPad.

  • Upgraded to iOS6 and now charging cable doesn't work

I just upgraded to iOS6 n my iPhone 4, and now my charging cable doesn't work.  No...it's not an "official" Apple charger, but even the usb cable doesn't work when I plug it into my computer.  If I plug my iPad charger into it, it works fine.  How can the new operating system determine what kind of usb charging cable it "wants" to accept?  This charger and cable worked flawlessly before the OS upgrade.

Same problem here. I use a wall charger and have had success by unplugging the charger from the wall, plugging the adapter into the iPhone, then plugging charger back into wall. Had the same problem with a car charger and got the phone to charge using the same procedure. I'd love to know if this works for you. Good luck!
