I upgraded to Mavericks and my entire iPhoto library has been wiped. Anyone know how to restore it?

I installed Mavericks the other day and have just tried to access my iPhoto Library but there are now photos. It show the menu as if I'm opening it for the first time.
Any one know if it can be restored or what might have caused the problem?
Thx.

What size (via the Finder) is the library that you opened?
How did you install Mavericks?
Did you do an erase and insatall or just install it over you previous system?
